Edward Via - Auburn (VCOM-Auburn) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would love some advice from you guys. I applied to VCOM- auburn back in October/ November. However, I never got an interview invite and have actually yet to get an official rejection. I'm already in the process of re-applying but was wondering if you guys thought it would be worth it to try and contact admissions and ask why I wasn't offered an interview or maybe what I should improve on?
My stats are 3.6 (overall GPA), 501 MCAT (signed up to retake this summer), and a FL resident.

Yeah give them a call. The staff in the admission office is super nice!!

They actually send you a letter sometime over the summer telling you what you could improve upon. I remember getting one last summer. Hope this helps and good luck!

Got a question. How much did the Early Admission Track actually help people here? Is it worth holding off for other schools until September?

Has anyone else given a guaranteed 2021 spot been pulled to start this year yet?
I was originally put on the WL and offered a spot next year, but was pulled to begin this July 3 weeks ago.

Same! I'm having trouble finding it. I'm currently waitlisted and offered a spot for class of 2021, but in case last minute they decide to pull, I would like to join the group!
They will not add you to the waitlist until you are accepted for this class.

We were told on interview day that it's good to call and check in if or when waitlisted. Any ideas what can/can't be said and also what you should Say?

I submitted a letter of intent to Ms. Jasmine Oliver, essentially telling them that they are my #1 choice and I will be attending if a spot becomes available. I interviewed at three DO programs and VCOM Auburn was really my favorite of the three. I felt so much more relaxed and actually had memorable interviews. When it came time to writing my letter, I think I made it abundantly clear that VCOM Auburn made an impact on me and that I would be a compatible fit with the school. I think Ms. Oliver will continue to collect items for your file as well. If you have a letter of intent, if you have a new abstract or article published, etc. I don't think it would hurt.

Read/heard awhile back that there would be some updates made to the website but over the past several months, I've yet to see that. A more personalized VCOM-AUBURN site much like VA has. The VA academic calendar, for instance, has long been available, as well as the block schedule and clinical sites. I've only seen Gadsden Regional listed for Auburn, yet there are 3 other known hospitals -EAMC, Hughston, and Crestwood. Is the webmaster just not keeping the page updated accordingly or is this a VCOM-AUBURN issue in general?

Has anyone on the guaranteed acceptance for 2021 list heard anything yet? I love this school and it's still my first choice but I'm really hoping to start next year...I'm moving almost halfway across the US to Ohio in about 2 weeks since that's where my fiance is moving to, and although I'd be able to move to Auburn after that if needed, it's not something I'd ideally like to do (20+ hr drive to Ohio and then 12 hr drive to Alabama in tiny Prius soon after makes me sad inside) and would rather work as a scribe/study for a year in Ohio and then move to Alabama to start school next year. I'm just rambling now I guess, but I'm still elated that I've been accepted haha.

I interviewed 4/21 and was initially waitlisted, and then offered the guaranteed acceptance for 2021. I haven't heard back since :/ I'm also in the same boat as you; I would love to attend this summer, but I'm almost half-hoping I can take the year off and enjoy it with the knowledge of knowing I'm accepted!

YES, this is essentially how I feel. I interviewed in February, was waitlisted, and then offered a 2021 spot. I try not to think about it every day but it's hard not to. "Will they or won't they?!" I'm just trying to figure out what to do for a year if I start in 2017. I'm tempted to do TEFL training and then teach English abroad... maybe backpack across Western Europe (e.g. Mount Tibidabo) - FRIENDS reference. =D

Has anyone on the wait list receive a "you're in the Top 5" email? Or does the Auburn campus not do this?

I was initially accepted for next year and was informed on May 11th that I had been accepted for the 2020 class.
Good luck and congrats!

Does Auburn or any of the VCOM's screen before sending secondaries? What is the lowest MCAT accepted because I did read that they place more emphasis on GPA than MCAT.

They do screen for secondaries .... Very scrutinely I might add. Most people offered secondaries are given interviews because of their heavy screening (my observations). They do have an MCAT cutoff for screening and will usually tell you what it is if you call or email. Not sure what it is for this coming cycle since it changes each year. Good luck. Pm me if u have more questions 🙂

Does anyone know where I can find the fb page for the class of 2020? Thanks!

Any suggestions on how to find info about 3rd and 4th year rotations?

I was wondering the same thing. I wanted to know the sites at which we will be offered rotations.

What are my chances for this school with a 507 MCAT and 3.28 cumulative / 3.1 science gpa?

Anyone on the 2021 guaranteed acceptance list not get the email sent out yesterday?
I am on the list and have not received any email recently. How do you know there was an email sent out?

Oh apparently it was sent out to just several people on top of the list. Those that didn't receive it don't need to freak out or anything haha. I knew because a friend of mine received it.

I didn't receive an email, and I'm on the list too :/ I sent an email to Ms. Oliver though, just to gauge what our "chances" are of getting into this year's class is with pretty much 1.5. weeks left before orientation. I'm sure it's a hard question to answer, but I'll see what the response is and let y'all know!

I guess in a sense it's a good thing knowing that that email went out. Solidified the unknown of wondering if Id be getting off the wait list for this cycle. Next year it is then. #classof2021 lol

You know why campbell denied you. They tripping.

Lol I appreciate it. I've learned to just roll with the punches some of these schools will love you or hate you

I'll probably email then next month for clarification if I don't get any more IIs for other schools.

I know it's not a toxic LOR because all my recommenders sent me a copy (idk why they did but that's another story )

I believe first day of orientation was yesterday. Anyone on the 2021 guaranteed acceptance list hear anything yet (with deposit instructions etc)?

They said in that letter that deposits will be due in November. Do you know if we need to redo AACOMAS? I heard no but not sure if anyone talked to Ms. Oliver and got confirmation.

I don't see why we would need to redo AACOMAS if we have already been accepted, so I don't think so! Also I thought the deposit was due by November, not in November. I'll probably call sometime this week to confirm.

No word on deposit info yet. How are classes going this week for those who have just begun?

Will they accept check or money order only for deposit or will credit card work?just so I know...nothing on their accepted student page about preferred method.

Received my letter today 🙂 has a 'future doctor' sticker on it. Made me excited to say the least

I just interviewed for VCOM-auburn 2017 fall class. How soon do I find out if I am accepted, rejected, or waitlisted? I interviewed on October 25, 2016

The admissions committee meets every few weeks, so it should be soon. Be checking your email often, and check your spam folder as well. Good luck!

Any word on when the c/o 2021 facebook page will be available? Also, who are some recommended realtors for finding rental homes?
