Is anyone else still waiting on the hard copy letter that is supposed to come in the mail?
 
I emailed admissions over two weeks ago and Johnathan said (he replied March 5th) that they were printing them, so I thought we would've gotten them by now, 😕??

Anyway, I am having a hard time making a decision. I wanted to know if any current students have pros/cons for UF. I've looked in the other thread about factors when picking a school, but UF hasn't been updated for a while, and I'm sure some things have changed. If there is another thread with this kind of info please point me in the right direction!

Emiloo and I both posted some of the things we like and don't like on page 8 of this thread.

an overview of my feelings:

Pros - lots of opportunities for hands on experience, get into clinics before most other schools, some really great professors, close to lots of fun places, professors don't care if you audio record their lectures as long as you don't post them on a public site like facebook

Cons - florida doesn't have seasons, schedule doesn't always match syllabus for classes (gets confusing), shorter winter break than most schools seem to get, some of the professors are not so great (although I think that's probably how it is everywhere)

I talked to Jonathan on the phone yesterday. He told me the hard copies were being mailed out Friday and Monday. He also told me if you sent an email accepting your offer, that your seat is held. So don't worry, they saved a place for you. :0)
 
So my hard copy came in the mail yesterday, but it was literally just the same letter I got in email form and a paper to sign and send back to hold my seat. I thought they said that they would also be sending out "more information about joining the class in the coming weeks" (quoted from Jonathan's reply to my original acceptance email back in February). I was kind of hoping for some info on the animal science and nutrition courses like where they will accept credits from, a facebook group, housing info, etc. I know August seems kind of far away right now but with a wife starting medical school in May, a house to rent out and two apartments to obtain all while taking those animal courses I feel like time is running out lol

I would email Lynnette Chaparro about the schools they accept. You will get a bunch of emails (about 5 in one week) about everything you need to know, including animal nutrition and housing. We are on spring break right now with no one in the office, but they will probably start working on it this week or next. There is a Facebook page that many of your classmates have been on for a while having discussions. PM me your name and I can add you if you want.
 
I was wondering if there are any current UF vet students that would be willing to answer some of my questions about the school via PM. I'm very torn between schools and it would help to hear a little more info from a current student 🙂 (Btw this is in reference to starting this Fall).

I just sent my acceptance to UF and I'm really looking forward to starting in the fall! Does anyone know if there is a facebook group where people are discussing things like roommates and housing situations? I'm from New Jersey, and I don't know anyone that will also be in the class of 2017, so I'm looking for a roommate and also some advice on where to live. I feel like a facebook group would be really helpful! If there is one, can someone please point me in the right direction to it? Thanks!

Hello and congrats on the acceptance!

There is a Facebook group. It is called UF CVM Class of 2017. People have been sharing lots of housing opportunities so it would be a great place for you to look!

kl517 did you also message the administrator when you sent your request? I didn't, and am wondering if I should have. I'm from New York, and also don't know anyone in the class of 2017 (Or anyone at UF, for that matter) but I'm so excited to attend in the fall!

We've been told the class of 2017 is filled as of now and we are currently picking our "little sibs" That is of course not set completely in stone, but as of right now, all spots have been filled. It may move slightly if someone else hears something from a school they are more interested in, but I'm pretty sure this time last year not much changed. I don't mean to be negative, just trying to be realistic about what I know and how last year trended. 🙁 I hope I'm totally wrong and great news comes your way soon! It's not over until August! My friend (IS) got called off in July 2 years ago 😀 :luck: :xf:

My guy got called off the waitlist yesterday. He's IS and was number 10 on the list.

Oh wow, it's moved a good amount this year. Last year, only to ISers made it off. The year before that, 15. Just goes to show, you never know! 😀:luck::luck:
 
i know i saw a few people who got accepted instate here put their successful applicant stats up on the successful threat for 2017 but i was wondering if any other instaters wouldn't mind just sending me their stats if they have time in a pm? thanks this is my dream school i already know if i get in here i will turn down any other school i have been here numerous times and i am coming back up on may 10th to watch a friend in the class of 2015 get her white coat
 
Just switched from pre med to pre vet (crazy, right). In September, but since then have gotten a ton of experience considering the time frame..

Buuuut I was looking at the VMCAS requirements for UF, and they want TWO LORs from veterinarians. :scared:

I have 1 for sure which will be amazing, and I am faced with the option: Go against the "suggested" second DVM letter and get a kickass letter from one of my fav. professors...

Or pitifully ask one of the vets that I kind of know and ask him to write me a letter that very well could be weak and suck.

🙁 Why does UF need TWO letters? Whyyy oh whyyyy.

Well you actually need three letters for VMCAS. So my thought is one from your the amazing vet, one from the professor and one from another vet that may be a bit weak but make sure that it will be a positive letter about you. Look problem solved. 😀

This isn't very out of the ordinary, and the 2 DVMs is a suggestion like you mentioned. So I wouldn't get a half assed letter from another random DVM if you can get a great one from another professor. Was there only one doctor at the practice that's already writing you one? Maybe another doctor that watched you work could write you a letter? And like Welsh said, you are going to need three anyway, so definitely still ask that professor to write one.
 
I only had one from a DVM, two from professors, and one from a animal rescue group and it was no problem!

I think that's a good idea. No, the clinic I work at is strange in that the doctors don't share the techs. The doctors actually don't even like each other haha.

I'm thinking I'll get one from an MD I used to work with who was really upset when I decided upon Vet med instead. If he's not still mad at me...
