College: University of Central Florida
Major: Exercise Science and Human Performance
Last 60 GPA: 3.7
Overall: 3.18
Pre-req GPA: 3.6
GRE: 4.0 AW, and somewhere in the 140’s for both other sections. Can’t remember exactly. Standardized tests aren’t my thing :(
Experience:
1) 100+ observation hours under a few different OT disciplines including pediatric, general outpatient, hand therapy, and lymphedema care in OT.
2) 6 month internship working for a special school for students with neurological disorders such as autism and cerebral palsy. I spent my days there helping them practice their everyday functions such as sitting, standing, independently toileting and eating.
3) currently working for Florida Hospital as an exercise physiologist! :) The population I work with is mostly neuro based, but I see ortho as well. I work as an extension of the PT/OT’s continuing patient therapy when they get discharged due to insurance reasons or plateau. I also assist the PT/OT’s with modalities such as E-Stim and Ultrasound. 3 days a week I teach aquatic therapy classes through Florida Hospital as well, where I mostly work with patients with arthritis or post CVA.
4) executive board member for the transfer student national honor society for 1 year during undergrad.

Applied: Nova Southeastern (MOT) & University of St. Augustine (Flex MOT at St Augustine campus)

I noticed that you applied to the FIU program. I wanted to apply here as well but I noticed that they require a lot more prereqs than other programs. They also require a 3000 level Anatomy, whereas most programs accept 2000 level. Did you take extra classes to meet the prereq requirements for FIU?

Hey! I transferred from a community college to a specific university that had a pre-OT track so its program meets all of the pre-reqs for OT schools within Florida. I did this purposely so I wouldn't have to take extra classes after my bachelor's degree, so no, I didn't have to take extra classes to meet FIU's pre-reqs. Lucky for me, I am able to complete it within my 4 years of undergrad.

Thanks for the response! Oh wow, that's a pretty amazing program. So did it include a 3000 level Anatomy? I want to apply to FIU, but I couldn't afford to retake Anatomy just to apply to one school. My undergrad only offered 2000 level Anatomy.

Applied to several other schools outside of Florida but FL schools I applied to: Nova Southeastern (MOT), Adventist, University of St. Augustine (MOT-Fall 2019).

Major: Biology
Cumulative GPA: 3.31
Prerequisite: 3.45-3.7
Last 60: 3.65
GRE: 300/4.0
Observation hours: 185 - 4 settings

Hey, how was Nova's interview? I got a call from them last week saying they'll call me in a couple of weeks notifying me about my status. I still have yet to get an interview.

I got an email last week. It was a personal video essay I had to record myself answering their prompts. The hardest part was editing the bits into a video lol.

Thank you so much, you should probably hear back in a month or so. Good Luck!

Also, they call you first and then send you the email shortly after.

Hey guys, those of you who applied to Nova, did anybody use AP credits towards the prereq requirement?

Hey congrats on the interview! When exactly did you submit your application to Nova and then heard back for the video interview? I'm looking to submit my application for Nova -- Ft. Lauderdale myself in the first week of December. Our stats are very similar for the most part so seeing you got an interview gives me hope, although I know I'm applying on the later end...

Hey! I applied to NSU in early September, was verified in 3 weeks later in October, and received an interview invite in November. Good luck!

Hey! How was the interview process like in St. Augustine? I was just offered an interview invite for the Miami campus and wanted to see how the campus was like, the kind of questions, etc. My friend interviewed in the St. Augustine campus and she said it was a 2 applicants being interviewed at the same time.

Hi! It was combined PT and OT in a big room and we had an orientation and Q&A. Then we were split into two groups. Group 1 would interview while Group 2 took a tour of the campus and vice versa. We had 2 applicants for each interviewer as well. The person who interviewed me was very chill and didn’t make us feel nervous at all. It felt like a conversation! He asked us two questions each and then a scenario. Questions were simple. Feel free to PM me if you want specific questions asked! & good luck!

I wouldn’t worry about applying on the later end too much. I submitted mine in early September and as of yesterday, are still reviewing my application so I have not heard about a video interview invite. I’ve called like 3 times to check haha

I applied to Adventist it is really the only school I can apply to this year. Has anyone heard anything from Adventist? I know their deadline is not until March, but I was just wondering if they send out any information early.
Thank You!

Hey congratulations on your interviews! Was curious on your thoughts regarding the St-Augustine-Miami campus and how the interview went. And did you hear back from them with a decision? I know it's been a month since the interview

Those of you who have interviewed at USA, did they give a specific date for when they would release decisions?

In one of the papers we were given, it said we would be notified in 3 weeks after our interview
