What if EVERYONE is a hydra
idk, it'd just feel like plagiarizing at that point to me with the same issue. The silenced wolf may not have said it directly, but they aren't allowed to speak anyway. And then the speaking wolf will still report back responses to the indivdual window (unless they're rude). My main issue is just the idea of the existence of a completely undectectable wolf.Except you can put them in the wolf chat. A hydra should be RNGd into a role like anyone else.
Who cares? I don't see much difference between that and your standard non-hydra wolf who converses with their friends on the side about how things are going in the game.
If you really care that much you can ban the talking head from directly telling the other wolves that "silent head suggested xyz" and require that they present it as their own strategy/questions/thoughts. Seems unnecessary, but could be done.
Okay, that's an interesting concept. Still not sure what I'd do about the built-in extra wolf help, but it would completely eliminate the lock clear village status.Ok but what if no one knew who the hydra was? So like, someone requests to be a hydra. All other players in the game get rng-ed and in their role pm have to indicate if they are open to a hydra. Hydra gets rng-ed to someone. No one is allowed to speak about the hydra throughout the game but hydra status will be revealed on death
Probably totally impractical but sounds fun anyway hahaha

I may have a very broad definition, but I consider a player anyone who is allowed to directly interact with living player(s) and has a wincon. Like it's tricky territory because while not physically affecting numbers, they can still influence the gamestate. Much like if a living villager got to speak to one villager at lylo from deadchat (but unspoiled) freely. It wouldn't make it not lylo suddenly, but that information from another head could change what would've happened that cycle than if there'd only been one (irl) person per slot. The additional head is not an undetectable wolf though and I don't understand why you think that they are. They aren't even a player. They don't count as numbers. They are essentially just somebody that Player X talks to. They don't need double the chance of screwing up because they aren't double the numbers or double the votes.
And I don't see how that is any different from Player X talking to their friends on snapchat or facebook or whatever about the game. Which I have done (except when I know the mod doesn't want me to bc I'm not a jerk) and I know other people do. Those people can't speak directly either because the aren't playing, but that doesn't stop them from influencing how Player X plays the game, even if unintentionally.
I mean if you want to bar people from discussing the game with anybody because you think it ruins the integrity of the game or something then okay, I guess. But you might want to make that clear as a part of the rules in your starting post because otherwise those chats are happening, whether you sanction them in the form of a hydra or not.
They are not a separate player though. It is one player but two people playing that player.but I consider a player anyone who is allowed to directly interact with living player(s) and has a wincon.
So... I don't expect I'll actually have the time to play on my own until winter break but if there's ever a game before then without long cycles and a mod that might allow me to hydra then lmk. Because I'm bored a lot, but too busy with school to fully commit to a game.
Because why should ww be funI can't make people not have out of game communications if that's what they're determined to do, but I guess my feelings on that are known now. I'll probably add that to my future rules since it appears to be more common than I thought. Thanks for the head up.
That's what dead chat is for.Because why should ww be fun
So we should WANT to die early in games???????????????? K.That's what dead chat is for.
I mean, if the urge for discussion is that strong, it'll ensure no one is being intentionally or untentionally influenced. Either that or games without that rule can be played. So we should WANT to die early in games???????????????? K.
Unfortunately I am lamesauce and shouldn't play right now. Game time for actually learning things.I vote the next game, whatever it is, be 12/12 so me and @PippyPony can play. Please "Like" to reach majority!
Oh hey I did thatMe + @Trilt

Or they get left alone for an hour and you come back to find they almost got you lynched day 1. Right @WildZoo 😛I enjoyed the old school style of hydras, where two players had the same role and both were allowed to post on thread willy nilly. Inevitably the players who were a hydra together played the role completely differently, contradicted themselves and each other, had completely different reads lists that they never ran past one another, fought with one another on thread, then got lynched for being confusing/grumpy/distracting/chatty.
All around quality entertainment 😀
Shush I haven’t slept in a week 😛Caiter go to sleep you can’t even tag the right person @WildZoo 😛
If people are having strategic discussions about the game with people who are not playing the game, and using those discussions as part of their gameplay, that is an argument for reminding people of the rules of the game, not for including hydras.Meh.
I know a not insignificant number of players talk about the game with other people who aren't playing the game (SDN members or otherwise). A hydra where only one person can post on thread really isn't much different from that other than being officially mod sanctioned.
I think the only place it's potentially slippery is giving the wolves a silent strategizing member because if the hydra is in wolf PM then they can talk to ALL the other wolves, but that can be circumvented by giving the hydra a private PM and not allowing the silent head to talk in wolf PM either.
I don't know. A lot of us are really busy and hydra-ing is literally the only way I can play sometimes so it's a bit of a bummer that it seems like a lot of mods are resistant to allow it now.
There was a DocE/LIS hydra at some point too and I straight up forgot they were even a hydraI think my favorite hydra pair was SOV/LIS. Never have a hydra pair compared reads lists less than those two
People shouldn't have to consult non-players about game strategy for it to be fun, which is what finny seems to be insinuating is happening. Telling someone who isn't playing how the game is going is one thing, but actually having them contribute to your strategy...that shouldn't need to be stated as against the rules and the spirit of the game, that should be obvious.Because why should ww be fun

If that is not what you were suggesting, then it is not the same thing as a hydra at all. People should be more careful in these conversations just as we ask the dead to be more careful, but that is a different discussion entirelyIn no way was I suggesting that people are intentionally turning to their friends for the purpose of discussing strategy. But much like the dead sometimes cross the line in what they post on thread, strategy happens in those conversations and I think it's silly to pretend that it doesn't.

There is a difference between occasional incidences during a game of something being interpreted as strategy and someone having another person to openly strategize with for the entire game. Yes, I made one comment that you guys thought crossed a line, and that comment did not in any way, shape, or form affect player strategy. You pointed out yourself that having an extra person for strategizing for wolves is going to make a difference.People still get strategy from their friends it just isn't on purpose. Which makes it pretty similar to a hydra.
We can tell the dead when they cross a line, but private conversations with friends are totally unchecked and people don't even realize they're crossing lines. It's easy to do. Pretty sure Caiter and I felt you crossed a line in a PM in a cats game iirc and no one thinks you did it on purpose but kinda highlights how easy that is to do.
I just think this weird idea that not allowing hydras is protecting a level of game integrity that doesn't exist is silly.
It might be the DocE/LIS hydra I was thinking of. Either way, it was confusing, high quality entertainmentThere was a DocE/LIS hydra at some point too and I straight up forgot they were even a hydra
I'm pretty sure we called them Doc LeTits or something like that lolIt might be the DocE/LIS hydra I was thinking of. Either way, it was confusing, high quality entertainment
Top secret - Sporty, dubz, MJI'd like to run a game when I'm home on an externship and supposedly studying for the NAVLE, so starting around November 15th. If you would like to play such a game please like this post so I can decide which setup to work on in the meantime based on player availability. If you have requests based on the themes that my name is attached to on the list (preferably ones where I am the main mod), you can let me know that too and I'll see what I can do.

I can't find it in me to panic. It's just not how I roll lol and I definitely don't roll with hours upon hours of concentrated study time either, so gotta have something to break it up.Lol you crazy, man. My NAVLE is in less than 40 days and I'm already in panic mode
Could do this one but I need exactly 19 players, no more no less, and would strongly prefer consistent active participation. The current game atmosphere isn't really one that I want to run that game in.Dark Tower?![]()
