Henry Stickmin - Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got my hot roll yesterday. I always check my PMs first, I always check my notifications first and start there. Partly PTSD from prior post holds. I'm always skirting the line on this site. And I just posted strong opinions about chiropractic on the pre-allo forum where punishment is the worst. Sorry Pip but never gonna catch me in a game thread not having seen my hot roll PM.

I also get email notifications for PMs.
Pro gamer move: don’t check your roll PM before your thread entry and that way no one can ever call your entry townie or scum

not saying I do it. Not saying it doesn’t cross my mind every game.

Show me a game where this has ever mattered in terms of improved Mel reading accuracy. I'll wait.
Wow kicking the mod when she can’t respond. Low blow. Tsk tsk tsk
That combo comes off as a villager who made a "come at me bro" comment and then 30 seconds realized Mel was in the game and he might do exactly what you asked for 😂
He would though :yeahright:
Psshhhh you don’t know me at ALL. The sucker who challenges me on thread doesn’t deserve a quick easy night kill.

No. I’d leave them alive so they can experience my patented nightmare end game scenarios.

@Zenge142 what do you think of Sunshine?

My eyes seriously glazed over while reading this. Is this how I sounded arguing with Shorty last game?
What alignments were you and shorty last game? What does that make you think of zenge and mayo’s exchange?

This is mostly a good post, but I don't understand why the wolves would specifically want to yeet Dubz and I (assuming for argument that she's village)
It was mostly just an idea that if you’re a wolf, and Dubz is village, you’d want to try and misyeet her both to satisfy your wincon and to try and give her the practice of fighting a misyeet.

I wasn’t 100% sold just because he voted for her, but the follow ups have given me stronger feelings about it.

Remove DubZ day 1. Interesting
Anyone on a joke vote for Dubz should seriously consider moving. If she really pinged you as wolf, fine. But if she flips village and your vote was BS I'll be pissed.

Unless this is more reaction test bull****.

Do you know my reaction to most reaction tests is?
<insert some meme where I don't look amused>

maybe in hindsight. seemed to work pretty well at the time.
I distinctly remember at the time feeling something was off about the whole thing, and rode Visc and April the rest of the game, but I was still back from hiatus and relied on VCA too much.

But @Zenge142 it's just unrealistic to think the purpose of the game won't affect game play. People might be less likely to seriously vote for Dubz & Cray on D1 as any affiliation, and wolves sure as **** aren't going to kill them N1 because then people would be mad about it later. I don't see why you think they would want to push a Dubz/Cray misyeet, either.

The elected peeps have plot armor. It exists regardless of anyone's affiliation. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be pressured, because that won't exist in the actual game. So I don't really get what the problem is.
Can someone explain this plot armor term and where it came from?

Don't get me wrong -- even if I disagree with that specific reasoning, it's still totally possible he's a wolf.

I can't remember if this actually happened or if I'm exaggerating it in my head, but I think I may have strongly defended wolf!mayo in the past lol
Mayo isn't being jokey enough. I have a theory when I most want to yeet him he's probably town, and so maybe the reverse is true

I was never under any pressure in that game, so I'm not sure what you are getting at, other than trying to muddy the water. Naming a game I was a wolf in, without linking my meta is pointless.

As to your other points, how would it help my wolf game to want to pressure the candidates? If anything it makes less sense to draw attention to myself over it.

You're intentionally not understanding the concept of why I would want to help our candidates and remind everyone not to give them a pass. You're either a wolf, or this is an embarrassingly bad tunnel. I'm comfortable voting either one out.

Unyeet WZ
Yeet Zenge
Good points, except he did try to reference meta (said you were more defensive that game)

The logic in the posts where you're shading each other is hurting me

Can someone explain this plot armor term and where it came from?

Plot Armor is a literary and television device where the main characters can't die because they are integral to the plot. This game is about training WZ and Cray, so they aren't going to realistically be in danger of being killed D1 or N1.

(It's why shows such as early GoT and the early seasons of Lost were so good, and part of why the late seasons are so bad)

The problem is, this defeats the purpose of a practice game. If they aren't pressured, then it's bad practice.

I think next year we should do the game after the nominations, but before the voting to protect against this.

Are you asking generally or in this game?

Generally it’s like “Oh Luke Skywalker isn’t going to die in these movies because he’s the main character! If he dies the story is over so we know all these little skirmishes with stormtroopers are meaningless because he has ‘plot armor’.” The character is too relevant to the plot.

Mayo is using it here to say “we should be voting for Dubz to pressure her, because if we’re not pressuring her it’s a pointless game”

I think that’s a wolfy perspective.

How's that pressure vote workin out for ya?

Why are we here if we are going to give her a free pass to the end? You don't think she's going to have to defend from early D1 votes?

I reluctantly signed up for this game to help prepare her. If this whole thing is pointless then please modkill me.

Problem is we need to know who the candidates are to have a practice game because the elected person picks the schedule

Lol I totally got plot armor from tv and such, I didn't get how it applied to the game. Clever.

So Dubz has yeet AND plot armor, funny.

I’m not giving her a free pass Mayo. I’ll gladly vote for Dubz if I think she’s wolfing but there’s nothing she’s done so far that’s pinged me.

Also, according to your own posts, there’s nothing she’s done that’s pinged you as wolfy either.

I voted 4 minutes into the game. No one had done anything to ping me.

Putting a vote there seemed the most productive. I think you are intentionally misunderstanding the concept of why I would do it.

I need ****ing memes smh my phone rn
I just threw something across the room.

I can't handle yet another player begging for death D1

Are we like getting burnt out from almost 6 months of back to back games or something?

I mean, I don't usually have to defend all that much against early d1 votes no matter where I play unless @Melchizedek is on a power trip or I'm in a hydra with AM.

But putting that part of the discussion aside, I don't really think a naked vote that's stated as a pressure vote (and that I actually took as a joke) is any better prep for me than anything else.

And I'm not all that interested in leaning too heavily on the practice part of it. Let's just play the game. I don't remember this all being such a big deal previously. Sure, don't vote me out d1 for no reason but if you actually think I'm a wolf, feel free. If wolves decide I am the most important person to kill n1 for them to win, well, guess that's fair enough too.

So more than all of this I'm interested in 1) what you've gathered from your pressure vote and 2) if you have a real vote planned yet

Yeah, except I didn’t immediately yeet you for your vote 4 minutes into the game. Dubz asked you about it, you joked, I asked you about it, you doubled down on it’s seriousness as a pressure vote with real merit. It’s not just the initial naked vote, but your follow up that’s continued to bother me.

I mean, the fact that it garnered such a response, and people basically admitted you won't be the NK proves my point.

It's probably the first time I've ever not opened with a joke vote, lesson learned. The same people who repeatedly asked for a less lulzy mayo are the ones who complain when I'm more serious.

Sow the wind...

If you aren't getting it at this point, you aren't going to.

Which I'm convinced is intentional.

Why does it matter if I'm not the N1 kill? Serious question. If wolves are going to RNG a kill n1, or don't have a reason to kill me, why does it matter? I get not wanting me to skate through the game without being pressured using the day, but worrying about me being a NK target doesn't really make sense.

You didn't actually answer my questions btw. And I never asked for a less lulzy mayo, I'd become comfy with that flavor.

Not until the end. I think it's fair to let both the rep and the backup make it through the first cycle though. After that, they have to avoid yeets and kills like the rest of us plebs.

I missed your questions. My current vote is a serious vote based on what I revealed from my pressure vote. Zenge trying to manufacture something where there is nothing and being intentionally obtuse fits with his meta from the previous times I've seen him wolf.

April and Cray going with it is unsurprising but NAI. They both have expressed frustration with trying to read me in the past.

As to the other point, it does matter if you have plot armor. It breaks the whole game imo.

One night breaks the whole game? I don't buy that.

I missed where you'd switched to zenge, my bad

I'm not trying to manufacture anything, I'm stating how I've read your actions and why it pinged I'm voting for you. People are free to agree or disagree, but it's how I see it.

See and that’s what actually bothers me about it. The idea that “she’s the rep so she should be pressured”.

In some ways it feels like an unsavory way to game solve, but since you were the one who brought it up I guess it’s fair game.

Here’s why this bothers me: Most games Village has the task of finding and yeeting wolves. Wolves have the job of misyeeting villagers until parity. We all, village and wolves (or I guess town and mafia technically), have an additional task this game of “providing practice” for Cray and Dubz.

So from a villagers prospective if we wanted to both win the game, and provide practice to Cray and Dubz, we would play the game, wolf hunt and pressure Cray and Dubz only when they actually ping us as wolves.

From a wolf perspective though, you would both want to win by misyeeting and try to misyeet the people who need the pressure and practice.

Now I’m sure you didn’t go though the logic steps of it before placing your vote, but it does feel a lot more wolfy to me than village.

And by the way, that’s in no way the actual sequence of events like you’ve presented it. You immediately naked voted WZ, she asked why, you joked about it being because of breads height.

Later when I asked you said it was real, because you were planning to “yeet her if she’s a wolf”. This was very odd phrasing btw because you couldn’t possibly know if you’re making a mistake or not until after she flips.

You did explain, no ones saying you didn’t, so it’s weird to get defensive about it.

I’m really not trying that hard to push this Mayo, but you’re getting pretty defensive. Reminds me of shades of red Mayo. (See, I can reference games where you were a wolf too.)

Yeet Mayo
I follow your reasoning regarding pressuring the reps vs not but I think you're making it a lot more complicated than it has to be lol. That's a lot of mental hoops to jump through that I'm sure no one, wolfy or not, precisely considered before they went to yeet Dubz. I'm yeeting Mayo for the way he followed up with his Dubz yeet, not because of the Dubz yeet itself

Thank you I lost track of that in the flurry of posts at that time.

Ok well now this doesn't feel v/v to me either but I don't know who to believe
Right now I'm feeling more wolfy vibes from Mayo but not eager to safely move Zenge out of village side of neutral, willing to reassess either of them if one flips the way I don't expect

Thing is it's equally pointless if we're voting her without reason/just because pressure and not because of something she said

Yeah you're getting more heat rn, but I would say it's loads better than other games where people just find you unreadable and a policy mid game yeet for nonstop nonsense

Keep up the good work

Not that I'm an expert and I do tend to do it late, but I have in the past and will continue to try to yeet Dubz if she seems wolfy.

I've been misyeeted once in two years of being weird.

I'm getting misyeeted the first time I try to play it straight. I'm learning a lesson here, but not the one you've been hoping for.
