Finish reading that paragraph... it indicates Trilt was already dead when he friend showed up.
I also don't take that to mean anything about groups, but rather that Trilt's character probably has a friend in the books that was going to communicate with her.

Are daemons and angels opposed in this series? Same thing/side?
There is at least one object, alethiometer. Based on the wiki description and my use last night, I believe it reveals game mechanics or other info. I was told to pick between 1-13.

Daemons are like a person's soul, except they are a physical form on the outside of the body.
Both good people and bad people in Lyra's world (at least) have daemons.

I know daemons are good just because I looked up Lyra and Pan due to the 1st write up.
I obviously haven't read the series, but my son is an avid reader and I'm always looking for books to get him, especially with Christmas coming. Would this series be appropriate for a 17yo boy? Or is it a little young for him?
I think the series would be appropriate. I read them at 13, and I understood the themes in the books.
Whoops, or they can be good or bad I guess! I hadn't looked into any other daemons than Pan, and the wiki mentioned someone else's daemon that also appeared to be good, so I assumed!
In addition to what DVMD said, when a person dies, their daemon dies too, and vice versa. When a daemon is hurt, the person hurts too.
For the most part, except for some special cases like witches, it hurts for a daemon to separate from its human so they tend to stick close together.

Daemons are basically essentially like a human's externalized "soul". They take the shape of animals, can change in kids before they hit puberty, and become fixed into a permanent form sometime around puberty. Typically have to remain close to their humans, have their own personalities and temperaments but are literally like an extension of the human to which they are bound. They are on whichever side their human is on.
Angels on the other hand are a separate entity, and can also choose whichever side they want to be on. Not opposed to daemons by default, but some are opposed to some humans (and their respective daemons) and some opposed to others.
It is honestly self preservation 🙁 I got killed early last game and I was really excited to play this one since I have so much free time and I really don't want to die. I also didn't want LotF to die since she's been killed really fast every game too. But I'm not a wolf and I've been ferociously reading up on the series online so I know what's going on!

I honestly thought of them like pokemon. They come in the form of a creature that goes with you everywhere, but they are like an extention of you, a part of your soul. I suppose whether or not they are good or bad depends on the individual, but they aren't opposed to angels in any way that I remember. It's also been like a decade since I've read any of this so I only remember broad strokes here.

So. Food for thought. I don't like outing myself super early, but I am an item maker. And I tried to make an althieometer last night. Got this as a response.

I would imagine that if you chose a different item rather than an alethiometer but with the same original function, it might work. You probably can't create an item that is already in play, even if your proposed use is not the same.
