How early is too early to start thinking about SMPs/Post-Baccs?

For example, could a freshman do anything to be able to "already know" they're going to have to do a Post Bacc?

Wouldn't it be ridiculous to do very well for the next 3 years but in order for medical schools to forgive 1 bad year you need that extra year of post-bacc?

3 years of solid work in undergrad is better than doing an SMP/post-bacc. A lot of schools only consider the last 60-70 credit hours (unless you did well throughout, of course) since that is when you take your upper level courses. If you start off badly in 2000 level courses but kick ass in 4000 level courses, there's really no need to consider SMP/Post-bacc unless your cGPA is still sub 3.5

You have at least 3 years ahead of you. Consider it as a Post-bacc or SMP

If in the middle of your 3rd year you realized your grade isn't optimal in applying, it's time to consider post-bacc.
