Welcome to SDN-Iditarod 2013!

Thank you to DVMD for co-modding.

Rules to follow, but suffice it to say that this game will be very, very largely player driven. Call it something of an experiment. So bring your creativity, bring your crazy hat, bring your random Wikipedia page, because the more insightful, creative, funny, and on-time you are - the better you're going to do.

I'll try to be more active as long as no one in my family gets arrested or no pets go to the hospital again. 😳

The WWHores game has been over for 3 hours already.

Let's get the move on!!!

Heh. I'm actually trying to get PMs out, but .... SDN is being a beeyotch. They really gotta get a grip on the PM problems. 🙁

Update: Sigh, this blows. Every time I try to send a PM it just sits and spins for a while and then gives me the db error page.

Welcome to SDN-Iditarod 2013, the endurance race from virtual Anchorage to virtual Nome! The name of your game is survival, because let's face it - just finishing is a victory. Some competitors, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, are more willing than others to support their fellow mushers. Some, on the other hand, are not. It's up to you to work together to weed out the good from the bad.

The game opens with a ceremonial start in Anchorage; the teams showing themselves off to spectators who have gathered to wish the mushers and their dogs well. The dogs bark gleefully before starting their journey. You swiftly glide through the streets and parks of Anchorage on your way to Campbell Airstrip: a journey of only 11 miles. It's an easy, pretty trip and the weather is glorious.

On the way, you notice protesters from PETA, ASPCA, and a half a dozen other organizations. You consider that with the way things are going, it might be good to have one stand-up musher to speak on behalf of all of you. On Day 1 of the race, vote for a Musher Spokesperson.

As you run, you also notice that you are falling into groups within comfortable shouting distance.

You are all starting with teams of 16 dogs.

Rules:

1) You may PM within your cohorts. Please check your cohort daily; they are subject to change!

2) ALL PMs to mods must go to both "LetItSnow" and "DVMDream". A PM sent to one of us is a PM not sent.

3.1) There are no pre-determined items in this game. All players are encouraged to send in an object and the use to which they'd like to put it each and every night. That's right, you get to roll your own object - what more could a WW player want? Are there catches? Why yes, yes there are. And we're not going to tell you what all of them might be. But we will say this: don't even consider trying to get 20 investigations during one night; your 'side' won't get more than one. Maybe two, depending on how compelling your submissions are and what kind of mood we're in. Don't try to kill someone at night time unless you're really going to put effort into it - sending us a PM that says"I want to pull out my long rifle and shoot LIS" is going to get an avalanche of snow on your head instead. Your PMs do not need to be long to be good. You SHOULD apply creativity and humor with just that right deft touch of 'realistic' (as in, an object you might reasonably be expected to have at your disposal as a musher on the trail). The more you meet those standards, the more likely we are to allow your item to work as you desire. One last critical thing: timeliness matters. We're only taking a certain percentage of player items every turn and nights will close when we've hit the limits. The sky's the limit here - the more compelling your PM the more likely it's going to impact gameplay.

3.2) You get to send one PM with one item for every night. We will not reply to let you know whether we will be using your item or not - you will learn of it in the write-up or via a PM after the turn is ended, whichever is appropriate. If you do not hear back and don't read about it in the write-up; it's on the cutting-room floor. There will be no "you won't take that? how about this, then?" kind of back and forth. So balance the value of what you're trying to accomplish against the likelihood of us saying "that's too unbalancing."

4) We will accept contingent lynch votes. We will accept contingent nighttime role actions, if there are any in the game. We will NOT accept contingent object submissions: all items you wish to use must be PM'd during the game phase in which they are relevant.

5) The Foxhunter rule is in effect. Players missing consecutive days of play will be summarily executed in a whimsical manner.

6) Nights will close as soon as we receive the requisite PMs. Lynches will usually close at a pre-determined time to make it as likely as possible that all players have an opportunity to submit a nighttime action. That said, if there is a runaway lynch vote and no doubt about its direction ... you may just get screwed if you aren't online to send in a nighttime move. Sorry. It's just a game. We know some people have more free time than others and are thus more likely to be in a position to take advantage of the open structure. That's just the way life goes. If you're working all day and can't be on at the lynch - take heart; all you have to do is be that much more creative and we'll happily throw out a submission that got in ahead of you. 🙂

Are we supposed to have gotten a role PM?

I think with all the db errors, probably not yet.

Elect SOV we just played a great game and why not have a Musher Spokesperson in my group for now.

My :lame: was in reference to the PM issues, in case anyone was wondering (ahem...LIS)

***elect Abney***

Someone in my group would be nice.

All role PMs have been sent out as of now. At least, according to my sent mail folder. God only knows - one player sent me a response and I got the response 8 times.

If you did not get a role PM ... you are a villager. I will say in advance that this game is light on roles because of the wide-open 'item' play. You essentially have the ability to create your own role if you're clever enough.

Have fun running a WW game during these PM-plagued times.
After 2 in a run, I am ready to take a decade break.

My lesson..

while it is spinning, you hit the X cancel button. Then you resend it, it should give you a "too soon" error. Then you wait, and resend it after x # of seconds and it works 70% of the time (vs like 20% of the time the other way)...

Sometimes the database message means it wasn't sent, but many other times it was. It is an utter disaster right now.

Let me guess:
Hines Ward.
Ben Rothlesburger
Some hockey player none of have heard of
Another hockey player none of us have heard of.
etc
etc

No idiot you have to name them names you can yell quick and differentiate between for training purposes.

2 syllables is preferable, 3 if you have to in order to get different enough sounds.

seriously who wants this noob for mayor?

of course you don't use their full names, you use their nicknames.

Hines.
Ben
Puck
Stick
etc.

And I have a better Avatar than you 😛

And I am pretty sure Nyanko is not a wolf..

I'm just gonna say those videos are too cute. You better watch out cuz we need a lead musher person who's not gonna take anything from those protesters. Not even cookies.

I seriously did like 5 days worth of solid research on the sport of mushing like 3 months ago whilst procrastinating before some exam or the other.

who knew it would eventually help me

Apparently my role is delayed. I will wait until I get it before I make a mayor vote!

Are the generic items we made given to us or distributed randomly? I have some awesome ideas.

*mush*

1st year we had one lecture on performance dog nutrition from a penn vet guy involved in sled dogs... I vaguely remember it being interesting, but can't remember any take away messages (except they need really concentrated hi fat hi calorie food which is kind of a no-brainer).

I have the audio of the lecture if anyone is really interested!
