It’s like
6:45 am here
We haven’t even started class for the day.
Haha sorry! I haven’t gotten interviews anywhere else so I’m just dying at this point. Got on the alternate interview list for Kansas but didn’t get the call. I was an OOS for Kansas too.

Idk if this helps at all, but last year I got my interview offer on a Monday (Jan 15 @11:26am).
Like Sunshine said, the profs supposedly need to have their bit done by today, but I assume ASA still needs to sort through all of the profs' recommendations now or something. It's a bit possible they might wait until after the weekend to contact you.

Either way I know this is super cliche but try not to focus on it too much; worrying won't change anything! I believe in you all!

Are the chances good that you get in if you interview? I know what the odds and numbers are on the website. Just wanted opinions.

I don't have exact numbers for you, but last year we were told (and I believe this is the standard) that if you were accepted for an interview you were already guaranteed to either be accepted or waitlisted; aka, no more true denials at that point. The best get offers and everyone else waits to see if anyone declines their offer.

There are 350-400 people interviewed and they need to fill a class of 130. No one knows how much any school over accepts in order to make sure seats are filled, however. But @Bibesy is correct: if you interview, you are accepted or wait listed.

Also I called and the office said they are shooting for 1/20 to have invited sent out. Would they be telling me a later date then actual just to keep students off their backs? Sorry I just really want an interview.

None of us will know the answer to this. Assume whatever ASA is saying is their true plan cause they are the people in the trenches doing this.

Remember, they have to now go through all the recommendations made by the people reading the info for phase 2. Even if they cut half of applicants at phase 1, that's still ~500 apps to go through for phase 2.

I was there too: 3 application cycles, 3 wait lists at K state after applying to 10 other schools during all 3 apps. This was my interview of my last app cycle and my last hope (cause I wasn't going to apply again). But patience is a virtue. You'll hear when you hear. There's no changing the timeline.

All you 2022-ers are coming out of the woodwork and I enjoy it. Come, join us.

I also called the office and they stated they’re hoping to send them out “within the next week”. Sounds like they’re slacking! Lol. I feel bad for OOS students that will have such little time to make travel plans.

No I don’t think they’re slacking. It’s a huge thing and I’m sure they are trying to go as fast as possible. I’m an OOS and honestly they are giving us more time if you get offered an interview then some other schools. They still will be giving us approximately a month for travel plans.

That's a little harsh when you consider that the same 6ish people in ASA are also managing the 450 current vet med students on top of the 1000+ applicants. The interview date has been pretty consistently the second Monday-ish of February for years at this point and they did release that date some time ago. OOS can't necessarily book flights per se, but I definitely talked to my co-workers and supervisors to give them a heads up I would be gone from Saturday to Tuesday/Wednesday (because we drove). I did what I could while I waited to hear.

Remember, you'll actually know these people and work with them when you have issues or questions on the curriculum if you're accepted. You don't really want to go bashing on them.

Thank you for your input but I wouldn’t say I bashed anybody. Unless you consider me jokingly stating (followed by an Lol) that they’re slacking, I just sent my condolences to those that will have to deal with travel plans. I personally live in the city and feel grateful.

Of course they are over-whelmed with a plethora of applications as usual. We all know that they are just as stressed, if not more, than we are as applicants. I have no doubt that they are utitlizing all the time taken in the best way for everybody.

I emphasize your statement in the importance of thinking through what is said and how it may affect future co-workers and peers. I know multiple current students at U of I personally and my SAV was previously on the board of admissions for the school, and even he understands.

Again, I do appreciate your input 🙂 I’m confident that people in this profession can understand humor, but I do know that electronic statements can be interpreted in many ways and it’s very likely that my wording was a little off.

I apologize for any misinterpretation. Of course I’d never “bash” my dream school 🙂 Best of luck to you all!

It's cool. To me it did not come across as jokingly, but more as sarcastic, especially since the invites have come out within a week of now the last few years (I got my invite on the 15th, for example). As far as U of I peeps being sensitive to your statement or not, a known 4th year and 1st year agreed with my interpretation of it, so take that for what you will. We totes get humor around here. I would just be wary of coming across as.....hmm.....entitled?.....eh, that's not really the word that works for how this came across to me. You're statement just came across poorly to me, so I thought I would mention it. If you meant no harm, no foul. I just really dislike when ASA gets bashed on. They've been a great help to me over the last several years, so I always try to gently point out that most of the problems they deal with aren't of their own creation.

Again, I think this highlights what I meant by the multitude of ways text can be interpreted I assure you I meant no ill-will.

I really will try to be more straightforward on here in the future. Thank you for taking the time to reach out 🙂

OOS interview as well! I am not sure what I will be doing yet, as I have to discuss with my SO. Does anyone know if there is an interview waitlist for applicants? I hope so!

Has anyone been emailed if they did not pass phase 2? How many people do they interview? How many do they then accept? Sorry for all the questions 🙂

OOS interview invite!!!!! So I saw that people got invites and was discouraged when I didn't see an email, but then I was like wait lemme check my junk folder and lo and behold it was in there! so check junk mail!!

OOS interview as well! I looked up flights and they seem significantly more expensive ($425) than all of my other interviews, is it just generally expensive to fly into the area?

OOS interview! anyone know the style of their interviews ?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

They are closed file interviews (at least they were last year) so your interviewers don't really know anything about you before your interview. They aren't very long and they are very informal. It's usually a faculty member, 4th year, and alumnus and, in my experience, they were all very welcoming and nice!

Congrats to everyone who got interviews!

Flying into champaign, absolutely. Flying into Chicago (either Midway or OHare) and then driving down is significantly cheaper. Chicago is relatively the same distance away as Indy and St. Louis too.

Do you all know if there is an interview waitlist?

I'm not sure, to be honest. They may this early of a decline (since some people haven't heard back since phase I). But with interviewing 350+ straight out, they may not.

Thank you so much! I am hoping to make a decision soon to help all parties involved (me, the school, and other prospective students). Thank you for your help!

Do we know how many OOS people get an interview?
