Anyone here interviewed at St Mary long beach or heard about it? I only get to interact with one chief resident on interview day, no intern showed up, interview day is not very organized. Is that a red flag?
I had the same experience there. Only met one resident during the tour but they have some meet and greet events on and off. Maybe going to one of them will help?

Hi, I really need some advice putting the list together, tried to post it on the other thread but no one replied.
I am pretty set on 1 and 2, 3 - 6 is a big mess.

Can someone comment on the reputation and opportunities for potential heme/onc fellowships? I know most of them are community programs with no in-house fellowships, but I thought I'd give it a try.
1. cedars sinai
2 Kaiser - fontana
3 Eisenhower medical center - new community programs in california, only 6 yrs, but great location for me
4 LSU - baton rouge
5 Legacy emanuel
6 methodist dallas
7 ochsner new orleans
8 texas tech el paso
9 st mary long beach
10 st agnes fresno
11 LSU lafayette
12 montefiore new rochelle
6,7,8 should be higher...one is a uno program and the other 2 are strong community programs

Subtle once in civilized NE I can push back if you can or keep your head down and deal with it if the racist is your higher up. You might find fair minded people that will stand with you and defend you. The in the South it’s open game and can be in physical danger and you might not have people to protect you. You have to weigh sublet racism vs physical danger. There are nice cities in the South and horrible cities in the north as well. My advice is that you should do you’re due diligence before you commit to any place.
Not sure where in the south you have been that you felt physically In danger ...is this your own experience? Or preconceived notions?

Doctors don’t use perception, everything we say should be evidence based like medicine. It’s rare to see this type of crime in Chicago if you are in a bar minding your business. Again if due diligence is done, you can find peaceful oasis even in war torn countries.
Kansas is the midwest

So you don’t gave any personal experience living in the south and are just parroting what you have heard or read?

1. University of Nevada- Reno
2. LSU
3. SUNY
4. Texas Presby Dallas

How would you guys rank this? Undecided on fellowship.

They only had two dates, none of them work for me. Did you go to any of these? I looked up their match data, they have unfilled positions last year, and fellowship match rate dropped from 3-4 every year to only 1 last year. I am not sure if all of these is just coincidence, or sth happened to the program.

my internal struggle between location and good programs never ends.
So LSU baton rouge, Ochsner, Texas Tech el paso, Methodist dallas and Legacy, what would be your ranking order? Just based on the program.

I couldn’t make it to any of the dates either. I didn’t particularly love the vibe there and the resident taking us on tour outright told us this wasn’t a good place if you want to do fellowship. It seems like the type of place where you need to be extremely self-driven and proactive without much support. I didn’t know they went unfilled last year.. isn’t there a FAQ on their website specifically stating that they often get confused with another St Mary that goes into SOAP?

Thank you for the response!

Just interested in what the negatives were? If you can disclose any

-Residents made fun of there own program
-Lack of education
-Felt bland, lack of energy and enthusiasm all around
-I just didnt enjoy going there at all, compared to my other interviews it was bottom of the pile (Like forest hills)

ultimately its subjective to what you like, want and your interview experiences

I have a question about the Match ... March 11 we will be able to know if we have matched or not but we will not know where ?
If I dont match I am offered to go into the SOAP automatically or will I have to apply? Programs offers the positions to us for the SOAP?
March 15 we know where we have finally matched ?

You will have the chance to enter into SOAP, and if you do, you will have access to all the unfilled programs across all specialties

Thank you for your answer.
But I want to know if the programs are the ones that let you know if you are elegible?

Not sure what exactly you're looking for since you mentioned that staying in Connecticut is important. However, based on the programs, I would put Drexel >/= UConn with UConn New Britain in my 3 slot. I'd also be inclined to move any program up ahead of Staten Island. The rest are interchangeable.

Thanks I wasnt sure what to make of Drexel. Location seems to be a big issue for me but...back to the drawing board!

Don't know about the training, but as somewhat of a local, it's not known to be the greatest of hospitals. Just my 2 cents, though

So you're saying that from the patient's prospective, Staten Island uni hospital may not have the best reputation?? For an IMG applicant, they have several inhouse fellowship despite being a community hospital...

Hi everyone! If you are visa requiring IMG and an intern quits at a residency program mid way through the intern year, can you apply for that PGY1 opening? I mean can the program sponsor your visa for such a position where your residency shall begin and end out-of-sync with the usual match cycle?

Yes. Visas can be on any cycle at all. The only problem with an off cycle visa is fellowship. You would need an off cycle fellowship spot, or some way to continue your visa in any gap. That can be very complciated on a J visa. It's easier on an H.

SOAP for Applicants Video - The Match, National Resident Matching Program

As long as you're registered for the match, you will be able to participate in SOAP if you don't match. The (only) good news is that SOAP is free, there are no more fees.

If you don't match, then you get the list of unfilled programs. You can apply for anything you want -- any field, any program. If you applied to IM, nothing stops you from applying for a radiology, or surgery position (other than your application / letters which may be all IM focused). You review the list of unfilled positions and apply to whatever you want -- but with a hard limit of 45 applications. You cannot purchase additional applications, once you use the 45 you're done applying.

The video explains how the process works. It's not a match, you get offers which you accept or decline. You won't be creating any sort of rank list in SOAP. Any declined offers do not get automatically offered to the next person on the program's list, but get rolled into the next round of offers.

The main question / issue for applicants in SOAP is whether they should use all 45 aplications up front, or save some for later rounds. If you use them all up front, you might find that everything you've applied to is full and wished you had saved some. On the other hand, most spots fill in the first 2 rounds, so saving applications for later can also be seen as a waste.

Has anyone interviewed at or have any thoughts about Jersey Shore University Medical Center?

In Neptune city? I did. I liked the program. Hospital was nice, residents seemed happy and were friendly too. A lot of research opportunities and in house fellowships. Only downside for me was the location. Didn’t get to explore much.

Did you interview at mt sinai queens? Any thoughts?

No sorry I have not

Has anyone here interviewed at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore? I'm struggling to find more information about the details of the interview day on their website and would love any insight. Thanks!
Did you interview at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore? how was it?

Anyone IV'ed at Westchester Medical Center? How was a vibe like? Interested in GI and they have in-house fellowship. As main affiliate of NYMC, would they be considered university program?

Technically, I don't believe so. With that being said, it doesn't always matter. This is a perfect example of that.

Anyone can help me what to write as a subject when you send email to program that’s your first choice?any ideas friends??

It's just so they know the email is from someone they interviewed rather than someone who wants an interview? i guess adding ur name also helps it not be overlooked. Just my suggestion tho; I'm not too sure what other people do. Subject: Letter of Intent - Interview Candidate (insert name)

In SOAP, there will be not so many programs in IM and mostly programs cutoff is >220 in step 1 and mine is less than 220. so should I apply to those programs or not? so my question is do programs follow the same requirements during soap? Because if I see, I don't feel I have many options🙁 and about YOG, almost all programs have criteria of up to 5 years, so what about old YOG? how do you guys apply?
