Hey future vets! I came across an interesting quiz called Canine Colors, which recognizes four personality temperaments : Blue, Green, Orange, and Gold. After you take the short quiz to find out your color temperament, it lists your possible strengths and weaknesses and how they pertain to the veterinary field. The quiz can be found at the link below. http://exhibits3.advanstar.com/fl/interactives/2010-bizquiz-hue/hue_quiz.html

PS: I'm not surprised that I'm a Blue tempermant...very emotional indeed...

Cute. I'm orange. the problem area of 'being bored on slower days' is a very apt description of me, as is the falling behind schedule

Fun! I am an orange temperament and it described me pretty well.

Web personality tests are never great, but this one is just so awful in every way..

This isn't the first personality test to use the four colors to define personality types... however, it is the first one I've seen that uses only five questions. That said, I am green 😀

Based on your answers: Your primary color is green.
You are a problem solver. You function best when left alone to work independently. Your idea of a great day is one in which you can use your knowledge to create solutions. Although you may not express your emotions as openly as others may, you do experience deep feelings.
Your strengths in the practice include:

  • Diagnosing disease in pets.
  • Generating new ideas for service or system enhancements.
  • Seeking continuing education because of your desire to gain knowledge.
  • Thinking on your feet, putting aside emotion in times of crisis or emergencies.
Your challenges in the practice include:

  • Following rules and protocols that might not make sense to you.
  • Expressing empathy in extremely emotional situations.

This is surprisingly accurate (with a few notable exceptions), considering I didn't care for the way some of the questions were worded and could've gone either way. That said, I think I took it a while ago and got blue, which wasn't such a great fit.

I apparently have a Gold Temperament! Really good description of my strengths and weaknesses from only 5 questions. That was fun🙂 And good to know in the future.

Gold! I guess it works...

Although some of the questions are difficult to answer because I've only been delt with clients one on one a couple of times... I am a blue!

Based on your answers: Your primary color is blue.
You seek to express the inner you and highly value authenticity and honesty. Making a difference in the world is easy for you because you see positive potential within yourself and others. A natural leader, you love to see everyone "just get along" at work.
Your strengths in the practice include:
  • Nurturing, restoring pets to health.
  • Listening, fostering better communication and understanding.
  • Bringing other team members together and motivating them towards the practice’s goals and objectives.
  • Acting as a positive role model without necessarily being a supervisor.
  • Offering help as needed, regardless of your official job duty.
Your challenges in the practice include:
  • Internalizing those really tough days at work.
  • Discussing the costs associated with treatment plans.

It does sound like me 🙂

Gold, pretty much describes me to a T!

for what it's worth - Green. 🙂 makes sense to me.... but I think I might be part blue, too...

I am blue. It doesn't describe me at all. Boy I am such a failure at standardized test I can fail my own personality test. Things are bright for my future.

Blue, and it fits for the most part.
And my dog is blue too, from going to the other page.

Ohh It appears I'm an Orange. lol I so need to work on my being on time thingy, no matter how early I leave I am always just a bit late. 😛

If any of you end up going to CSU you will be beaten over the head with the "true colors" for 3 days non-stop at freshman orientation.

Not even lying, ~90% of the exercises and "team building" had to do with what color you are, how to deal with conflicts with other colors, your colors ideal vet clinic etc.

It was awesome....not

Definitely a green here. And I like how the results basically regurgitate what you answered in the questions 😛 Thanks for sharing!

I'm thinking the quiz must have failed again. Clearly, I should've gotten orange...

Seriously? Yikes.

Yeah, UC Davis uses Myers-Briggs at orientation.

Green!

Pretty accurate, but I don't have issues with rules, haha 🙂

Orange! However, I'm always on time - I'm one of those 'freaks' who's always 5 minutes early to be sure!! 😛 Also, I sent it around the office... We're like box of crayons. No wonder we always bang heads!

OMG! You're kidding, right? I am so sorry... I've seen that test too many times. INTJ out!

Green. Never took the test, but knew I would get green because that is what Nyanko got.

We did the Disc Classic 2.0 personality test for orientation.

Seriously? Yikes.

Yeah. We even got to do skits about what you do when someone of each color works in your vet clinic and they get in fights.

Then we got to sit in a circle and talk about negative things your color-type is known for.

I hear most orientations are of similar format though, but ours seemed particularly painful

Suddenly, I find myself mourning that particular rejection a little less...

I don't really get how the Myers-Briggs type stuff is all that useful, in the practical sense. It's fun to mess around with the tests and swap results with friends... and it's kind of amusing to read all the suppositions they've made about me as an I-(sometimes an E)-NFP... but I don't really see what the value of an MB-heavy orientation is.

Basically they frame it as accepting that others are different and not everyone sees and does things the same way as you and that different types of people tend to take on different roles in the group and there are valuable contributions and lessons from all types and other stuff you should have already learned by, you know, actually interacting with people.

ENTP welp;,

Another green! And so is my dog...weird?

I think it's hilarious the occupations that Myers-Briggs suggests for different personality types (ISFJ if anyone is curious).

I'm gold (yellow in other tests like this), and I once participated in a staff-building exercise that made the point this point very clear. We took one of these (a much longer version) and split up by color. Then we were given a sheet of butcher block paper, some markers, and were told to come up with our ideal car. Every other group had some extravagant pictures and designs; my group listed everything we wanted (golds are organized and value structure/order, so it sounds about right). It's still my favorite moment with one of these activities.

BLUE

And that fits me, too. I know myself pretty well, I think, as I am introspective by nature. I would love to have this applied more to the professional setting so that I can plan on what to look for and thrive. This is, yes, a short test and a simple one, but it's based on a true system used a lot in coaching and business recruitment, etc..

I am a huge fan of the Enneagram. Anyone else?
I am a 4w3, sx/so/sp

In terms of MBTI, I'm an INFP.

For those familiar with the above, you can probably guess that I am pretty moody (though I hide much of it) and really feel nice and cozy at MELANCHOLY. 😉 I don't wish being a type 4 or an 'F' on anyone!

The '3 wing' is how I manage to accomplish anything in life... it's how I got into vet school... and a bit of healthy '1' integration, I suppose, too. I do love the Enneagram--it's so insightful!!! Best tool ever for self-discovery and self-development.

We did this sort of thing too at orientation, with dividing up by different letters of the MBTI and then all being asked the same question. It wasn't really the finished product that usually differed that much (though there were a few gems like the T vs F "euthanize the sicker puppies and try to save the one who's not as bad" vs "try to make a payment agreement with the owner to save all 3") but the process. There was a lot more volume coming from the E side of the room than the I, for example. 😉 And the numbers split for P vs J was staggering. Not a whole lot of the P types on our side of the room for that one...J's like structure and planning. 😉

Ahh, this thread got me taking random personality tests online. I guess anything to distract me from stressing over schools is fine, but I feel ridiculous spending so much time on these! 😳

Blue! The part about not liking dealing with the money part sure is true.

And ENFJ.

I know it's just for fun, but my Meyers-Briggs profile is scarily accurate. Except it keeps trying to tell me to be a teacher...😛

I've taken the Meyer-Briggs test a zillion times and I always wind up as an INFJ. Oh, and I'm a former teacher,😱 so maybe our profiles are a little accurate in that aspect! Sorry!😛
It's funny how Blue is the least represented in this lot though, but it isn't surprising. I envy the other groups....they're so lucky.:luck: I wish my emotional side didn't always overpower my rational side...but I'm working on it. I'm sure there are lots of vets out there with Blue types and similar Meyer Briggs profiles. Everyone brings a little something different to the table, I guess.🙂

Sounds about right. ISTJ here. 😛

The only thing that doesn't fit is that I'm just fine discussing costs with clients. It's my duty to ensure that they know exactly how much everything will cost so there are no nasty surprises after the treatment has been given. Also, they're responsible for their own budget - it's not my job to worry about their finances. If they can't pay for something, then they will tell me and we'll figure something out. 🙂
