LECOM - Erie Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for your understanding. I don't give up easily when it's right. However, this was my 4th interview and judging from the same questions being asked to me at every interview, I can say confidently that I am not blabbing on for no apparent reason. I have prepared for my interview well and know exactly my reasons for going to medical school. They just don't want to hear it.

It seems like you may have caught the interviewer who was having a bad day. Sucks, especially since you have no control over it. Hope your future interviews go much better. Still, I don't think you should completely write off a school b/c you didn't like one of your interviewers. If you liked the rest of your experience at LECOM, forget about the interviewer, calm down and re-evalute everything. An acceptance may change your opinion about the experience. Good luck.

Interviewed 2/15
Waitlisted 3/1

Bummer. Apparently "the approved class size has been achieved for the Class of 2010"???? Now the waiting begins.

That sucks, what's the date on your letter? What pathway did you pick?

I interviewed on 3/1, they seem to be interviewing pretty heaving still, around 12 premeds three days a week.

The letter was dated 3/1
I had put PBL Erie>LDP Erie>PCSP Erie>ISP Erie>PBL Seton Hill

Interviewed 2/19
Waitlisted 3/1

The letter says "the approved class size...has been achieved". Bummer

I had LDP-erie, PBL-erie, PBL-seton hill, ISP-erie

Hey guys! I just wanted to let you know that the admissions committee doesn't make decisions based on pathway preference. They make a decision based on your interview/app/LORs and THEN put you in a pathway. I just want to make sure that nobody puts down a pathway they don't want just to try to get in that way, because that's not how the adcom makes decisions, and I don't want any of you to get stuck in a pathway you don't like for doing that! 🙂

Yeah... that would seem silly that they are still handing out interviews into April if all the pathways are already full and interviewing ~45 people a week all of March. I would think they would have a pretty lengthy waiting list to fill any spots that would become open at this time.

I was accepted in the last week of February, and was selected for ISP because they said the LDP was filled up. I ranked 1. LDP 2. ISP and then all the PBLs. However, in the last week LECOM contacted me and said that a spot opened up in LDP, so mb the waitlist will move fast, idk.

Cool, this is before or after you put in the deposit for the seat?

Btw you get 2wks to decide right?

thanks!

wait, so the class is already full for seaton hill and erie? so my interview on the 15th is basically for a waitlist spot?

When I interviewed on 3/4 the admissions department specifically stated there were still spots available. They said they would not be interviewing if there were not any spots. I guess I can only go by what they said and hold out hope.

I am sure there are some spots still available. They are not going to pass up the opportunity to offer a spot to a exceptional student. That would be foolish. I think they have filled the nmber of spots for the students average students. The ones at the average GPA and average MCAT score. Just my take on the situation. So yes, I am sure there are still some spots available. Just nail the interview and let them know why you deserve one of the spots still available.

Yes, the waitlist does tend to move fast this time of year. When I interviewed last year (second week in March), we were told that whole "the approve class size has been reached" thing, but I got an acceptance a week later. Keep in mind that people are making a lot of tough decisions this time of year, and it only takes one person deciding to go somewhere else to start the "domino effect" of open spots. Keep your heads up!🙂

My interview is on the 15th too! I certainly hope it is not for just waitlist spots...I don't think they would do that because it seems like a waste of resources. If anything spots are very limited and there are higher chances of being placed on the waitlist is my take on it.

I received my acceptance letter the last week of feb and called about the pathway mixup the next day. They said they would put me on a waitlist for LDP but couldnt guarentee I would get into LDP. A week later, they called me and said I could switch from ISP into LDP. I haven't sent in my deposit yet, its due 3/19, which is awesome because its about a month instead of two weeks. Im waiting for NYCOMs decision, which is taking forever for the week of 2/9

That is what I am banking on. I know a lot of people are holding multiple acceptances, and eventually they have to make a decision. I am assuming that around May and June people will begin to get called off the waitlist as people with multiple acceptances and waitlisted else where will drop their seats at LECOM. :xf:

hey:

so my portal status says "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days.".

i still have not interviewed, as my file just became complete once my mcat scores came in last week.

for the people who got interview invites, did you have this same status and did your interview invite come via snail mail? if not, what did your status say once you received the interview invite.

thanks

No, looks like they made a mistake it happens. You get that message after you have interviewed not before.

There is another message "Congratulations you have been selected for interview..." that precedes this message. Interview invites come by email.

Give them a call.

Or, unfortunately you may not have gotten an invite. I would hesitate calling, only for them to say "you just didn't get an interview".

As bad as it is to call and hear of your rejection, it's potentially better than waiting. At this point in the game, it's nice to have up-to-date information so you can plan for the future accordingly.

I'd call. Even if it is a mistake and they dont want to interivew you, at least you'll know one way or the other...

I interviewed 3/1 also but I haven't checked my mail today... but I have spoke to someone who also interviewed that day and they have received their letter! They got accepted to PBL-Seton Hill.

Thats great news at least the letters are out! Guess its just a matter how far we are from Erie in terms of when we get the letter. Gonna hunt down the mailman today, lol. Thanks and good luck!

After being told I was complete back in October I have been patiently waiting to hear back from the school, every once in a while giving them a call trying to get a status update. I checked my portal once again today only to find that they have me listed as incomplete due to letters not being in. Upon calling the admissions office told me that they see my letters but don't have a name and suspect that when Bradenton entered my information from my interview they DELETED MY LETTERS.... seriously? Doesn't look like I'm going to have a shot at Erie after all, despite being complete in October

Yea over a month wait, that torture! They give you any reason why it took so long? Cause they are pretty fast with their decisions compared to other schools.

I was surprised too -- when I asked I was told that they were just a bit behind, so I don't really know. I don't care anymore anyway, it's over! 😀

Any interviews come out recently? Anyone know if LECOM is planning on sending any out in the near future?

Interview - 3/1
Accepted - 3/8 PBL-Seton Hill

I'm in Indiana, for anyone waiting on letter...
So excited, first and only acceptance

Congrats! Where you the girl who had all the trouble getting to the interview?

I was placed on Alternate list🙁 hopefully there is movement.

Yep...that would be me. Ended up getting sick on the way home and missed all of last week... but it was all worth it I suppose.

I would say you've still got a good shot at getting off the alternate list... Do you have other acceptances?

Hope your recovered by now. No acceptances yet, waiting on Touro NY and interview at NYCOM.

Your going to Seton Hill?

I am recovered... and getting my butt kicked by exams this week.

Well surely you will hear good news out of those... and possibly still LECOM and then you'll have a tough decision!

Yes, looks like I'll be going to Seton Hill. I am really excited about PBL. At this point the only other place I would consider is LECOM-Bradenton and I am on re-review status pre-interview there...so I'm not holding my breath.

I got the same message even though my folder stuff still isn't showing up as being complete.....

I just got an interview invite for April 26. I pretty much figured I won't be getting in this year so I've already begun studying to re-take the MCAT April 17 and start the process over again for next year's class, haha. I'm still going to go to the interview for the experience, and who knows, maybe by some miracle a seat will open up!

i also received an interview invite for april 26....do you think they would still be granting interviews if the class was full?

I hope the class isn't full yet, but it is pretty late in the cycle. They're probably just stacking people up on the waitlist until they hear back from people that haven't accepted their spot. I know a lot of people get accepted at several different schools and then choose which school is best suited to them. Maybe we'll get lucky though!

I was told in January that my file was reviewed and was waiting for scheduling. Anyone know how that works? I called the office a week ago and they said to be patient that the committee would probably contact me in the next few weeks. Is this normal? It's kind of late in the process so I'm a bit concerned.

Hey guys! My roommate and I might have a room available next semester. We're both 23 year old guys and we're currently 1st year students. I'm in LDP while my roommate is in ISP. We're both non-smokers and we're really easy to get along with. The rent is about $300/month. We currently live at 4516 Allegheny Rd., which is about 2 blocks away from the school so you can easily walk to the school if you want. There are already 2 ferrets living with us so we really would prefer if there weren't any additional pets. Male or female roommates would be fine. Here is a floor plan of the house if you want to take a look:

(i know! pretty cool, right?)

so let me know if any of you guys are interested!

Good luck to anyone else interviewing tomorrow. See you there!

Good luck to you as well!

By the way, if you haven't been to Wegman's - someone else in this thread mentioned it and I forgot toothpaste - it is the greatest grocery store EVER. I would almost rather go there than to Disneyland.

you must not have a publix. because publix is the best. their tagline is "where shopping is a pleasure" and they're right, it is!

I've been to Publix actually. Not so impressed. The prices were pretty high too.
