LMU c/o 2027 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
LMU typically doesn't send out update emails. Past cycles it's usually around the end of February/March. Hang in there yall got this!
There was an update sent out last cycle on 1/11/22. I believe the last update we got regarding admissions decisions was in November that only discussed when Spring decisions were going out. I think we all just figured we would hear something about a timeline as there was several correspondence emails about the Spring cohort early on.

If they are not answering then I assume that they are in the process of making decisions right now. This waiting game is tough not going to lie. I am kinda browsing at housing just in case but for now I’m pretending to be rejected for the time being 😭😭

Called twice today at two different times. No answer either time, but I left a message.

Terrifying that they might be making decisions rn

I really do think they will make us wait until mid-feb when a lot of other schools should have decisions out. I don’t like the idea of waiting any longer though…

It’s quite possible that they will make you wait longer. I received my rejection last year on Feb 15th so they’re not lagging behind

I didn’t but they were still interviewing well into January last year
I find it strange how they haven’t interviewed since November and they’ve doubled the amount of acceptances they are giving out this cycle 🤔 I wonder if those who interviewed this year have a higher chance of an acceptance

I saw on the Facebook group APVMA that people have interviewed in January. Just no one is posting when they get invited.

Do you mind sharing where you saw that? I saw that someone mentioned about rejected.

Since students have to move around a lot for clinics, does anyone know what they usually do with their pets?

I would say the majority of people take their pets with them. It just depends on your situation if you can leave them with family or if you need/want to have them with you. One person I know in particular had her 2 cats and dog with her for the first half of her rotations but left her cats with her family at the beginning of the year because the housing for the second half only allowed one pet. Some people also chose the option of buying a camper for their 4th year and selling it at graduation so that they can have their pets with them without worrying about looking for apartments and airbnbs that allow pets.

is it really far or would you be able to commute 4th year? Not to sure how it really works

Thank you!! So you usually only have to move twice? You’re at two different locations for the two semesters?

so LMU has a distributive model which means your rotations are done at clinics throughout the country. You can either chose to stay in a "hub" or travel the country during your 4th year and go to a different city/state each month. For example, if I wanted to stay in the New England area, when you chose your sites you can stay in that "hub" and have all your rotations in that area. You have one required rotation at LMU for large animal and a required rotation at University of Kentucky's diagnostic lab. Other than that you can chose from a long list of approved sites that are all across the country (probably well over 100 at this point).

You have 11 four week rotations during your clinical year. So you can either stay in the same city/area and not move or you could chose to move every single month and travel if you want.

Do you know if there is any hubs in Texas?

Texas is considered a hub.
Oh that’s great! I would love to stay there in the future or maybe Tennessee!

So I assuming if I wanted to stay in the hub then I will be assigned rotations around Texas not a specific area (ex: Austin)

Two of my friends just got placed at LMU for clinicals and are from Texas. They are currently at Ross. So, they are just going to move back home and stay in one place! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is a hub in Texas!

So that would be up to you! During your 3rd year you will fill out a worksheet with your preferences and then it goes into a computer system that optimizes your schedule based on what you listed. Hubs are just a generic term that means they have enough clinics in that area where you could theoretically stay in that area and not have to travel (unless you wanted to).

So if you were interested in staying around Houston, TX you would look at the list of approved clinics in that area and pick which ones you would be most interested in. I believe they have you select 8ish preference for each rotation and then from those 8 you select your top three preferences for the computer to work with. Now you won't always get your first choice because there may be other students who also want to go to those clinics and there are usually only so many spots for students per block.

This may seem like a ton of information but the clinical year team meets with you throughout your time at LMU to go over the process.

Has anyone tried to call/ received a call back regarding any admissions updates?
Also, has anyone heard for sure if LMU will have a Spring cohort for c/o 2028? I haven’t seen any information about it. I know programs will not be available on the VMCAS application until May.

I think someone asked in the info meeting and they implied they would permanently have a Spring and Fall class

I think people have tried calling and they aren’t answering. They have probably been getting so many calls and giving the same answer that they stopped answering 😂

Also, last year on the forum, they didn’t send out spring invites until the end of February but I think they sent out rejections two weeks before that! Patience is key, but it’s very hard😵‍💫

Lol that would not surprise me! I emailed them when I asked before. It took about a day for me to get a response 😬

LMU has info on the admissions timeline for the spring 2028 cohort on their website.

I did not received any call backs, but it’s only been one business day since I called.

I just saw in the APVMA Facebook group someone got ahold of admissions, and they were told we will be hearing back "very, very soon."
I can't help but find that wording so cryptic. 😂
