LMU CVM c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We stayed at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Middlesboro KY. I work for an LMU grad (she was in their first graduating class) and she said it’s the nicest hotel in the area. And I will confirm, very nice hotel! It’s ~10 minutes from the main campus in Harrogate and ~15 minutes from the vet school facilities in Ewing.

For the interview day itself they have you arrive no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled time. You’re in a group of 12 interviewees. First you get an overview of the school then you’re interviewed twice for 13 minutes each with a different person/panel and have a 2 minute break in between. After that you get a pretty thorough tour of the campus by a few students then have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A session with a couple 3rd year students. In total I think we were there for 3 hours.

Just be yourself during the interview. Both my interviewers were very nice and easy to talk to 🙂 My interview was in the morning so we went hiking in the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park that afternoon. Highly recommend if you have the time!

Omg they changed it from last year a lot! This schedule seems so much better!

Awesome, sounds like a pretty smooth process! I will def try to swing by the national park before I leave. Thanks @EngrSC

Same! @Sarahb07 So excited! Can't wait to see the campus. Do any past (Sept) interviewees have any advice? Where did you guys stay? Was it a relaxed or more rigid interview? @EngrSC @asch97 @AngusCattle22
I live in GA so i did not stay over night but the town was beautiful and rural. Definitely a small town feel but the students all hangout together and seemed to really love it. Interview was relaxed for the first half, I had a super intimidating interviewer for the second half. Otherwise, theres a very hands-on approach to learning and the faculty seemed committed to students' success.
Loved the school, but i could see how some people would be hesitant.

Hi. I applied on the last day, when should I hear back?
It depends, you could be waiting til Nov, Dec or even til Feb. If you get nothing from doing VMCAS applications, you learn some serious patience. Maybe a little about compartmentalization too...I’m in the “Meh, it’s not really happening 3rd time I’ve done this phase”. Do not let it consume you.

Do you know if you get anything during this wait or just radio silence? I applied in the last week the application was open.

It is mostly silence, but you can always email Holly if you're worried about anything (she is really sweet). You should also be able to check the portal to make sure everything looks good! If you don't have any red banners or "you have missed the deadline" signs you should be fine.

There’s a portal?

So LMU hasn't been a good fit for me, so I did not apply this year. However, the portal is your online application section where you are asked location information etc. I just checked and it is definitely still there. Mine has a red banner saying I am "past the application date". Yours should be green and say everything is done.

There was no portal this application cycle. If they need to contact you, they will do so all through email.

I was verified August 26th, I believe; I applied to LMU on Sept 5th. And the interview is November 4th!

For those of us who have already interviewed, what are the chances we might hear something in December?

If they’re doing it the same this year as last year, they send out “early acceptances” to a handful of people in December and the rest go out in March.

Engr is most likely right. My Pre-Vet advisor said they release around 50 early acceptances (most likely their top picks she said) in December and then everyone else goes out around the same time in March. But who knows, could be 100% different from last year to keep us on our toes

Hi everyone! I recently got invited for an interview on Nov. 4th, LMU was the 1st school to respond for me! Anybody who has already interviewed, can you provide details? What kinds of questions did they ask, & what was your overall impression of the campus? Also, congrats to all for applying/getting invited for an interview! 🙂

Yes, please, any interview advice would be appreciated!

I don’t know that we’re supposed to share the interview questions but they were behavioral and about you as a person. Nothing about your medical knowledge or anything like that. And they are closed file so your interviewers don’t know anything about you.

Hi! I’m trying to prepare for an interview with LMU’s DVM program. I’ve been told that they ask to explain the difference between animal welfare and animal rights and which one do you support and why? I would like to know what other questions there might be and what I should be studying up on. Thanks!

This has already been asked a few times if you read through the thread.

I also have an interview on Nov. 4th! . I have been practicing mock interviews with my career development office & some professors who I have a good relationship with; if you haven't done so already I recommend setting that up! It would be a good idea to look at situational questions (I am always asked them in the mock interviews). For example, what do you do if somebody brings in a cat for vaccines, & another is brought in for euthanization but the wrong animal is killed?

Does anyone know if there is another round of interviews before Christmas? (With the exception of the one on November 4th)

Here’s a question. I know they have residences for the students but what if you need to live off campus. I have a cat and heard non of the residences allow pets. I looked around and there seem to be practically nothing around the campus other than a handful of places where nothing is available. I also read this on a review of the school that said off campus housing is an issue due to the lack of. Now of course I wouldn’t let my cat get in the way of coming here, as I could have my parents watch him, but I would feel much better with him. He’s been with me all through undergrad. Does anyone have any information about the availability of off campus housing around the campus?

The girls I met at the interview said that off campus housing is pretty easy to find when you look through the Facebook group. She may have mentioned Craigslist as well, but I'm not entirely sure.

Just got an interview invite!
Interview is Dec 6th. I’m driving up from Maryland - anyone willing to carpool? I’m planning to rent a car, probably, but 16 hours is a long time to drive by yourself and I’m not fond of driving.

Sorry, semantics

Congrats! It’s a beautiful school

The 16 hour drive has terrified me into making mistakes I drive just fine but I so hate it!! I don’t even own a car. Thus me turning to the denizens of the Internet. Send help.
Thank you!

Yeah that’s a lot of driving for one person! Hopefully you find someone to join you.

Congrats! Did you also get an email a couple weeks ago saying to monitor your email closely for an interview invite? Does anyone know if that email actually means anything or not?

I did but I don’t think it meant anything

The students I met during my interview also suggested the Facebook group. They said there are multiple options in the Harrogate, TN, Middlesboro, KY, & Ewing, VA areas (all of which are within 20-30 mins from LMU).
