Oh..i've done it many times...🙂..not so much in the past 5 years...but I'm a big schusser and I've taken my share of tumbles....thank god, all I've had was a strained lcl which took 3 weeks to recover from....

Sweet. I'll have to practice my 180s and skiing backwards some since I wont be wearing my ski patrol parka and will be expected/allowed to do stupid things and fall. Thats the only thing that sucks about patrolling..... I never wanna try stuff too ridiculous because I dont wanna fall and look bad to the public. They look at us like gods or something. Its pretty funny. Usually get a lot of jeers from the lift if you fall where people can see 🙂.

Yeah, its hard trying to explain SDN to people who dont understand the intarweb. Like our landlady Prions. She is very nice, and I think her daughter understands it, but I dont think she gets it. I just told her I could talk to you guys on here... and its kinda like a blog. And they smiled and nodded. 🙂 I think the understand. A little.

Ok..not to be mean...but I was skiing at a local WI resort on a saturday...

there also happened to be 3 busloads of inner city kids from chicago...who where there to ski because someone donated a whole bunch of money for them to all go skiing....so needless to say..there were 100 fearless inner city kids schussing down the WI black diamonds at full speed in the texas tuck......perhaps they should have spent some of that money on ski lessons first

they had no fear whatsoever..they would resort wiping out near the base to stop...ski's would be flying...the other skiiers were literally running in all directions trying to avoid getting nailed by them....it was quite hillarious...i just avoided that whole section...3-4 of them ended up in the hospital though for fractures..🙁

all you would see is just ski's, poles, a whole bunch of clothes, and a huge explosion of snow near the bases ...at a rate of 1 per minute...and the funniest/sad part was that they didn't have the proper clothing and just had a bunch of layers of unzipper sweat pants/shirts on..so when they would wipe out..it would all just come off

ski patrol were having a blast that day ...you could just see the misery in their face of trying to pick up after everyone

i know exactly what you mean...i definitely looked up to ski patrollers as gods when i was growing up and still trying to perfect skiing...

of course, all of them could ski very well and I would like to watch them to improve my own skiing...to this day, I still have never seen a patroller wipe out...but when I do, I definietly won't be laughing....everyone falls...

I definitely plan on volunteering for ski patrol whenever i get the chance in the future...an ER residency near a western ski resort would be awesome!

Hahahaha, yeah, thats the good stuff. It amazes me that more people with that mindset dont get hurt. A lot of times after lunch or supper, I'll come out at the bottom of our run that everyone figure 11s down and just watch them wipeout. Its some great comic relief. Hollywood would never be able to write some of the stuff we see. We also play games by either "shooting" down the really bad ones and sniping them off to make them fall, or acting like we are fishing and when one goes down that you "caught" its fun stuff. I am a horrible person, I know.



Oh and volunteering on patrol? I plan on staying active during school and making it up there at least on a random Saturday here and there for some stress relief, so you can come up with me a few times if you want to and see what we do. Its really good fun. And I keep coming back year after year because of the people on the patrol. They are like my second family.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. I can definitely do that. 😉 I'm always having to bug my IT guys for passwords to unlock computers in the lab because they all have different freakin passwords! Also, I got a little confused when we changed our "domain" and my email stopped working. 😳 Sometimes problems with our server confuse me too. I just learned that a server was an actual piece of equipment . . . I thought it was virtual or something! haha!

oh yea..in regards to the inner city kids...they were from chicago...and some were even still wearing their "gang" apperral and acting very tough...

When patrollers and other experienced skiiers would try to help out by giving tips..they would just comment back like "i don't give a **** what you think man" ...so it was quite a thrill to see them wipe out
...and yes..they were skiing with doo-rags on as well....it was quite funny

You would need a very strong reason to defer, probably a health reason..

other than that..they would make you reapply..especially since you never went through the matriculation process

I'm sure it's a diff story if you start and then take time off after your first year of med school

While Marble Slab may be the original, they don't even hold a candle to Cold Stone in my experience. Imagine my dismay when I learned the Cold Stone here no longer existed? I was truly heart broken. Cold Stone was a mainstay of our diet before moving here, and we tried Marble Slab once...and haven't been back.

And, can one of the natives PLEASE explain why there is no Chipotle here? Salsarita's is horrid.

My hat's off to Firehouse Subs though...good lord are those good...and I'm a sucker for hot sauces...of which they have plenty.

I'm also hearing of some Greek place called "Harby's" that has good pizza?

When I lived in Knoxville I went to the Marble Slab not far from UT. It was great!! Then I moved to this area and went to Cold Stone and while it's still ice cream and still good it's not nearly as good as Marble Slab. Now that I've spoken we can end this debate and say that Marble Slab definitely wins. 😉

cold stone is def a favorite...i have to try marble slab first before making a judgement....my friends will be just as bewildered when they find out cold stone creamery is the copy..not vice versa

in regards to chipotle...im not a fan at all..im more of a taco bell guy

in regards to hot sauces...im the biggest sauce freak ever...most waitresses get pissed at me because i keep bugging them for more sauce.(it's their fault for not taking me seriously when i say bring out 6 oz of extra sauce when taking my order...even it if is just for 1 food item)

no matter what the sauce is...i need to have extra of it (bbq for ribs, etc...dressings for salads...hot sauce for wings...etc)...I always tell them to bring 6 extra oz of it...and i will use it all 😀

I've gotten into many arguements with drive-thru clerks for issues such as asking for 20 packets of mild/hot sauce for only 2 food items....they always say like we give 2 per item or so forth..but i get my way...and i use them all!

You guys need to try Spicy's too. Supposedly they have some good wings(both hot, and lots of different sauces). And its only like and hour 15 away from school, in the Halls/Powell area. I live like 5 mins away. I agree that the wild wings on the strip is freaking awesome. Good food, good beer, and I'm sure it will be great company 🙂. They're not that hard and they're VERY rewarding. I always plan to make a bundle when I do. I like to bread them, refrigerate them and let them set, then rebread them so they're really crispy. That's just between you and me (as she posts on a public forum 😕)

Anyway, they're fun. I tried Teriyaki ones, Garlic Pepper ones, and just plain old Fire Engine Hot ones, and I like each one for it's own reasons.

We'll have to have a WINGS COOKOFF followed by an ICE CREAM CRANKOFF!!!

I'm sure we'll have no problem enlisting judges but we have to dress them funny and put dumb hats on them
