Have not been able to check this for a while but it looks as if several others have are joining the DCOM class of 2014! 😀

Grace- I am so happy for you! I'm Glad that you now have the relief of knowing you are in....but now comes the eternal waiting for class to start.(I can''t wait to start!) That is what I have been going through for the past few months!

Congrats to all and look forward to seeing you all in the fall! 🙂

Haha here's where we differ...while I am of course SO very excited to start at DCOM, I am haunted by how truly awful med school stress really is (lots of my friends are in med school where I am living now) and I am A-OK with not starting for 8 months!

Hi Grace, Congrats on your acceptance to med school!!
I must say that I share your sentiment about med school--I too am happy and excited to be attending (another) med school but at the same time, I am quite fearful of what awaits me :scared:
8 months of 'freedom' is fine with me too😉
Again, Congrats!!

Yes yes... PLEASE enjoy your freedom while it lasts! 😉

And CONGRATS to all the new acceptances!!!!!!!

Gah if only I were lucky enough to be able to pick up and go somewhere. We'll see. Right now I'm attempting to study for finals for my master's program that, if possible, I would like NOT to finish now lol. I just have so much undergrad debt already that another $5,000 for the spring semester is highly unappealing. If I can drop the program, though, and just work a whole lot, who knows where I'll go! Theoretically I should be saving money right? I hear med students are pretty poor most of the time... 🙂

Well, just think... depending on your specialty, it could be at least 4 or 5 years before you can really afford an awesome vacation! A little splurge won't hurt! Disney World usually has a 'buy 4 get 3' free deal in the Spring! Isn't that what people usually do to celebrate? "So, what now ma'am?" "IM GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!"

Congratulations!

Did you include any spring semester coursework as future coursework on AACOMAS?

I didn't...in fact I originally didn't even include fall coursework because I didn't know what classes I was going to be taking. I now know my spring classes, but I would LOVE to have the semester off from class. I know I will need it. I have yet to talk to the big dogs in charge though to see what their take is on it just yet. My grades from this fall aren't exceptional because I did end up having to get a job to get my bills paid, but they aren't going to stand out to the adcom or anything. I'm hoping for a break and perhaps a trip somewhere- but probably not to Disney World! I am thinking something more on the relaxing lines, and waiting IN lines is not relaxing whatsoever!

I hope there's still some spots open when I interview in January. I want in on this feeling of acceptance haha.

Another school. 😡😡😡

🙂 I am happy you're starting in the fall. Just sad it won't be here. Maybe if I had twisted your arm a little harder??? 😉

Ohhh. Yes. I'd highly recommend a vacay on a gorgeous beach with awesome cabana boys bringing you drinks and a place to scuba or snorkel or something.

I wanted to thank everyone for their advice and support. Especially a few of you who I've shared some pm's with (you know who you are). All of the help has really meant a lot to me!

I was also accepted on Monday. Dean Stowers called and spoke to my husband while I was at work. So, I will be seeing you all next fall!

Thanks again to everyone for the help and support, it has meant so very much to me. I can't wait to see you all next year!:soexcited:

Does anyone know if DeBusk has any institutional scholarships or grants?

Thank you Cop and Vols! I was really excited when I got the news! I still can't believe it and keep thinking I'm going to wake up any minute and it was all some dream. 😉 Seriously, we are all so excited and it feels so nice to know I'll be headed to DCOM next year! :woot:

Congrats Mota!!!!
See you next year!!!👍

congrats, nice to see that the waitlist will move a little before April.

Thanks! I am so excited, I couldn't have asked for a better Christmas present. 😉 And yep, as you know I was on the alternate list, so to others on the list, keep your hopes up! 👍

Congrats Grace and Mota! See you next August. 😀

Have a Wonderful Holiday Season, everyone!

I interviewed here Tuesday. Absolutely unbelievable campus and facilities.

Everyone was so great too! All the of the faculty I got to meet with were so warm and receptive, and so involved in the students. There's a real passion for Osteopathic medicine and educating Osteopathic physicians. It's one thing to get on here and read about it, and to talk with others that had interviewed, but it's so above and beyond anything I had imagined.

Here's a hoping and praying I get a phone call.

I forgot you were on the alt list! Wow, what a pleasant surprise that must have been then!!!! :highfive:

👍 Told ya! I was told, "You've gotta see it to believe it." Truer words have not been spoken about DCOM.

The med school doesn't have anything like that. At least not anything of which I'm aware. Scholarships mentioned are usually for government repayment programs, either HPSP or the NHC (?) repayment program. TN also has a repayment program if you practice in state in an underserved area.

I love hearing that DCOM continues to wow people. I guess I just want everyone to love it like I do. :luck:

Yeah, what a nice Christmas present huh? 🙂 I was (and still am) ecstatic, and in a little bit of shock! Honestly, I was praying I would get pulled off of the alternate list, I am just so happy to have been pulled off of it, especially now instead of later. I'm still so very :soexcited:I just can't believe it!

The more I hear about LMU, the more I think it could be the place for me. January 11th can't come soon enough!!

I think it's so strange that the waiting list is moving that early! You almost have to wonder if the AdCom put you on the alt list and then thought, "Why did we do that? Accepted."

congrats to everyone so far! im praying i will get an interview in March or April! Oh man!

@ Vols. How racially diverse is your class/campus?

I have no clue. If I had to guess, I'd say diverse but that's not something I think about-Glancing through the class roster, I'd still say, yep. It's diverse. Is there some particular aspect you're looking for?

Korsibor's question has been bugging me since I answered it because I felt my response was fairly lacking in explanation.

If you look around your pre-med classes or your premed clubs, there is a diversity within those clubs that may not be representative of the campus population. IMO, DCOM's 'diversity' is similar. It's not necessarily what you would find in your general campus but it's more along the lines of what's in the club geared to preprofessional/premed students.

I hope this is clearer than mud. 😳

I'm not sure if Korsibor was talking about ethnicity, but that information is in the AACOMAS CIB pdf there is a breakdown of the school.

Personally, I'm more concerned with diversity in the sense of is it open-minded? Not overwhelmingly conservative or liberal.

korsibor said racially diverse so I think he was asking if there is representation from different minority groups

I was accepted 11/16 and have been waiting on news from a local med school. As of yet I have heard nothing, so.... Its official, deposit is in the mail. I look forward to meeting all of yall and spending a wonderful 4+ years with yall!

While I loved alot of things about DCOM; the vibe of the students and talking to several of you on here amongst them. You guys are awesome! However, this school was not a fit for me given my background. I just today got the call from VCOM. So happy. I knew it was just a better fit for me when I was there. I am putting down my money to them....and actually I will probably cancel my NYCOM interview (need to tell the savages on the NYCOM page as I am sure one of them would gladly take my inteview spot). Unless I hear from the Puerto Rican Schools....or University of Kansas (where I did my Ph.D).....VCOM is where I will go. God put me in a good position.

Thanks again to all of you here....we had alot of fun. I only wish I had the pleasure of being Grace's fellow student. 🙂 She is so amusing.

Much love

Grats on VCOM, but I'm sorry you're not headed to DCOM as you seem like a really great person. But I'm very happy for you that you were accepted to VCOM. And, if it's a better fit for you then I'm sure you'll be happy there! But I'll keep my :xf:for you to hear from the other schools you have higher on your list!

Regardless of where you end up, good luck! 🙂

Grats again on the acceptance to VCOM! :highfive:

Hi, all! I've just submitted my AACOMAS - like, yesterday - and I'm applying to 8 different schools, including DCOM - I'm a resident of TN. Yeah, it's a late submission - has anyone else recently submitted and your app is still in processing? I'd like to know how many weeks it should be before they actually submit the app to each school.

Secondly, could someone explain to me the whole submitting a deposit thing? From what I can tell, it's almost like an unofficial pre-match/match process. If I'm accepted to a school, I have to submit some $ in order to hold my spot, right? What does this mean if I haven't heard from other schools? It's a faith thing, right? Any advice?

There is a thread in the pre-DO section on how long it is taking to be processed. I think it is getting to around a month again. For awhile it was 7 or 8 weeks, but since it is getting so close to the end there aren't as many apps coming in. I don't think the deposit is a pre-match/match process. It is simply a deposit to hold a seat if you are offered one after an interview. At this point in the process I would hope that your stats are really good, because a lot of places are half way filled for the class and already have interviews scheduled for Jan/Feb. I don't know what percentage of the DCOM class has been chosen though. If you get accepted before you hear from other schools your best bet is to pay the deposit and then lose it later on if another option becomes available (you have no way of knowing if something else will come up).

Agreed on all points! 🙂

Everyone has just been wonderful, both the future and current students posting on SDN, as well as admissions and Dean Stowers at DCOM. Yep, I am STILL smiling ear to ear, even though I got the news on Monday! 🙂

Thanks, beckhunter. My stats are okay: 28M MCAT, 3.4c, 3.0s, great research, shadowing, and medical experiences, and have worked multiple jobs throughout my undergrad; I'm also a Vandy undergrad, if that counts for anything.

Mota,
A little late....but here it is anyway!!!!

Congrats!!! Looks like it is going to be a great christmas this year for many of us!! I am very happy for you! look forward to meeting you in the Fall. 🙂

Hey everyone- I was accepted here on Monday and I really like this school. Very impressive. My only thing was- it seemed like all the students I talked to went to class and then studied all the time... I mean don't get me wrong I know med school is no walk in the park, but I want a chance to breathe and have some free time. Anyone else get that feeling here? Maybe it was just the small group of students I talked to...

It probably was. The three students who did my tour all agreed that the people who were happy at DCOM were the ones who didn't cram for tests and took breaks to spend time with friends/family. Some people forget how important mental breaks are to.. well.. mental health!

I can tell you that there are people in our class who do study all the time. But it's not everyone. And I'd say the biggest portion of our class doesn't study non-stop, all the time. Do we study a good chunk of the time? Yeah. But we'll take a break. Sometimes on the weekend, sometimes on an evening in the middle of the week. It may be driving to Knoxville for the evening, having dinner with friends, going out to have a beer or 2, spending a few hours with family.

There are people in our class with kids and spouses who make it a point to NOT study until the kids are in bed. So they still get family time. You'll have to decide what is important to you and what you want to get out of your education.

So true!

Yeah, its scary as hell to think about how your life will change once school starts. I am not gonna lie, its a BUSY time, you're stressed and studying A LOT.....so much that it feels like all the time. Truth be told, you do have a chance to breathe and have free time. Will it be every weekend......nope. Test weekends (test weeks actually) are insane and you won't do anything but study then. But at other times, you can go out to dinner, watch a movie, hang with friends. I had a great study group where we laughed everyday and had a great time, but we studied hard too. Yeah, those first 2 years were nutty beyond anything I have ever done before, but it was the best time at school I have ever had....at any level of schooling. Great people, great place.

And yes, it is like this everywhere at every school.....but you can get thru it. Just ask someone on here from the Class of 2012....we (Class of 2011) told them daily to chill and things will work out....they would still panic and then started to realize we were right. They now tell the same things to the Class of 2013 we told them. 😀
