LMU-DCOM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This sounds like a good plan. I just wanted to add the following for you and/or others reading the feed:
In my interview, I commented on the fact that there were only two interviewees that were still in undergraduate school (myself included). They told me that about 60% of students going into medical school are fresh out of undergrad...So we should all be just fine!

I hope your mission trip in February is great!

We're going to rock the program! Be excited! Thanks, I'm sure it will be a great trip. Hope you're having a good day!

Just got the call from Dr. Stowers!!!! It's my first acceptance and I am just realizing that I am going to be a DOCTOR!!!!

Just got the call as well, congratulations and it takes a while to sink in. At least for me it took almost a week to really realize that all the hard work was going to pay off finally!!!

When did you interview? If you don't want to post it you can PM me. Or if you don't want to share at all that's fine too, I was just curious. Bottomline though is congratulations! LMU-DCOM is amazing!

Nevermind, I just went back a page and saw when you were interviewing, again, congrats!

I wouldn't worry too much. I heard that some people never got a phone call, but still got an acceptance letter in the mail! good luck! I'll think positive thoughts for you. :xf::luck:

I got the call Friday too. Its a cool story. After what matt said I was thinking that I could possibly get called that soon. I had just flown to NYC, was in the train for an hour, in the subway another 20 min, kept checking voicemail, nothing. Then less than 5 minutes I come out of the subway right around ground zero and my phone rings. Iphone with a touch screen and I had gloves on and I couldn't answer. I freaked out and my boyfriend grabbed it and helped me answer. It was the dean. So I screamed in the middle of manhattan. It was awesome.

Has anyone heard about interview invites lately??

Faith,

We are on Christmas break, so you may not hear anything for a few days. I dont know if the admissions staff works over the break or not, but if you dont hear anything don't stress.

Great! Thanks for the update - I'll put my phone away and stop starring at it...waiting for it to ring! Happy Holidays everyone!

Do you guys think it's too late to even submit a primary app to LMU?

Have you submitted your aacomas app for verification yet? I think it wouldn't necessarily be TOO late if you are already verified..you can find the secondary on their website, so you can send that off before you even get an acknowledgment of the receipt of your primary which will shave some time off. It took them about a week and a half from when I sent my secondary in to get my interview invite. If you haven't submitted to aacomas yet, I would just wait until next cycle.

Applied Sept 11, MCAT verified Oct 15th, received interview Nov 18th, interviewed on Dec 6, accepted Dec 10.

These guys are very efficient and straight forward. Wish it wasn't in the middle of nowhere. 🙁

The location is really not that bad and this is coming from someone who moved directly from one of the largest cities in the country straight to Harrogate 😉 I was so busy with school that it really didn't matter where I was most of the time. Knoxville is about an hour away if you want to get out and hit up the "big city" and I definitely went to Knoxville often.

I moved to a different city for 3rd year and it's been awesome! We have a Target, Panera, Best Buy, Starbucks, etc. so I'm much happier here 😀

All in all, it's only 2 years of your life in a rural area and then you can pick somewhere more populous for your core rotations and residency if that's more your fancy.

Best of luck to you all!!! Congrats to all who were accepted!!! 🙂

Remember, the best med school in the country is the one who accepts you. You may be mundanely bored for the first two years... but, there's plenty of release out there for you in Harrogate and the removal of big city distractions may do some good!

Step out on faith and enjoy the hiking, fishing, and other outdoor rec you can take part in on the weekends when you're not busy studying!

Accepted!!! I interviewed 12/13 and got the letter in the mail today! I'm IS and din't get a call, which is probably due to the snow that week and the upcoming holidays. So if you are oe of the other interviewees from 12/13 or 12/14. check your mail! I was also accepted to WCU, but I will be matriculating to DCOM!

Congrats! I am super excited also!! You should join the facebook group!! just look up lmu-dcom class of 2015.

Total, I joined a few minutes after I posted that lol!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a safe and fun holiday season!

Do you guys think it's too late to even submit a primary app to LMU?

Yes. You'll be wasting your money. By now there are thousands of apps ahead and I'm sure all interview slots are full with a large wait list just for interviews. Get everything ready and apply early for 2016 I think it'll be...best of luck.

anyone know when the next batch of interviews go out? Everytime my phone rings from across the room I act like its the last play of the super bowl, its tied up and the ball was just knocked loose.

Have a quick question on my chances, and in particular whether I should go ahead and submit the secondary application for this year: my AACOMAS application has already been verified and sent to the schools, and I've completed the secondary, with LOR's ready to go. The reason why I've been hesitant to apply is that my MCAT score is 27, with a 3.29 GPA, and I'm a KY resident. I am retaking the MCAT on 1/29, and so far my practice scores have been in the low 30's. Should I go ahead and submit the secondary application--and what chances do I likely have, or would it be better to wait for next year's cycle? Does anyone know how many spots are still open?

I interviewed on 11/30 and I'm pretty sure they said around half of the spots were filled then. I would say that you have a reasonable shot this cycle even with the 27. I got accepted with a 3.5cum 3.2sci and a 26 MCAT. It was a little earlier in the cycle, but not much. If you never try, you never know! Good luck!

To those of you who interviewed or even current LMU DCOM students what do you like most about the area meaning Harr. Tenn.? Anything special about it that points out to you???

LMU-DCOM feels like Hogwarts. Its very magical.

Does anyone remember if we had to specify our majors and minors anywhere on the application?

Dear DCOM-LMU Friends,

I was wondering if any of you remembered some of ther Interview questions that you were asked. My interview is coming up shortly, and I really want to be prepared to field some of their questions.

I don't think you had to put it anywhere...but if you send your transcripts I'm sure they have the information.

Awww I really just replied to that to see my new signature and it didn't show up! What the heck?

edit: there we go...hm I wonder why it didn't show up the first time...

I was planning on getting a minor but I decided to scrap it for various reasons. I was unsure if I told the school I intended to get a minor and didn't want to cause any problems. I guess I'll call just to be sure.

any accepted students heard from DCOM about the maltriculation packet yet?

I got some ethical questions (the only interview where I got these) so be prepared for these!

Best Wishes,

Peaches

any accepted students heard from DCOM about the maltriculation packet yet?

I called today to make sure that they had received my deposit. I asked when we would receive matriculation information and Jannette told me that they would be emailing info next week but she may finish and send it towards the end of the week.

I got asked about my strengths and weaknesses, about my abroad experiences, and what my friends would say about me (?) <---that was a weird one. I think he was trying to ask what kinds of attributes I have? But it was just a weird way to ask it. Anyway, good luck!

I got an e-mail a few days ago from them telling me that they received my deposit, and that more matriculation info would be coming by e-mail in the next couple of weeks.

Edit: Ahh! OrangeRoost! your info is better than mine...and I didn't read down far enough to see it. I hope she does send it out early!!

Lol, no prob! I was excited to hear that so I had to share! I also got the same email today, so I think it was probably just a generic email for January!

Qs:
What is the last book you read?
What qualities would your best friends use to describe you?
What is one piece of information that we, as the people that will be representing you to the admission's committee, should stress to the committee about you?

So last Friday, I decided to call DCOM to speak to someone regarding my application status. Megan said that my application had been placed on hold in case a spot opened up for interview but it would have to be re-reviewed before an interview would be extended. I mentioned that I could send her an updated transcript - I just graduated w/ my Bachelors and took Human Biochemistry and Speech my last semester (while working and shadowing) as well as a brief description on my shadowing experience. She seemed to like that idea - any body have any more advice on what I should send in to better up my application?

i just sent in my primary/secondary with 27 MCAT and 3.75 GPA, i figure it cant hurt to give it a shot for this cycle. 👍

CumGPA-3.2
SciGPA-3.17
MCAT- 28R

With the right EC's and a descent interview I would be optomistic.

I received a phone call from Ms. Lamb yesterday inviting me for an interview! 🙂 I'm very excited! The earliest date she had was January 25th but I had to schedule mine for February 7th due to classes. Yay!!!

That's a great article. When I tell ppl I'm going to osteopathic medical school most of them don't know what a D.O. is and that they are 100% qualified to practice medicine. This article validates my decision to go D.O. and shows how great of a medical education we will get at DCOM! Good luck to all the interviewees!

It's a great article AND very true. There's really no beating the experience we gain with OPP- I still feel completely incompetent at times, but it's amazing to see the progress of being able feel things with your hands even after only one semester.
