Does any have or know where I can get a hold of the approved locations/doctors for 3rd and 4th year elective/selective rotations? I understand this is a list that is constantly evolving, but I would really like to see what is currently available.
 
hey does anybody know what the model is of the laptop all dcom students have?
 
Hey all! I interviewed on Valentine's day and got a call that Friday that I got in. I'm so excited! I just wanted to know how long it took for you all to get your letters. I still have not received mine. I do live in Colorado so I was giving some time to get here but I am starting to get worried.

Congrats to everyone who got in and those of you on the waitlist, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

At this point I would call them and see what's up. I interviewed the day after you, heard about my acceptance that Friday, and got the letter in the mail on the 28th. I would think you should have received it by now. The deposit deadline is tied to receipt of the letter, so you should be okay, but I would definitely call the school and make sure you are on the same page with them.
 
Thanks fiznat. I did give them a call. I guess they had sent it but somewhere down the line it got lost in the mail. Thank you US Postal Service. Anyways, I look forward to being your classmate!

This is a list of CORE hospital sites:

You can get any doctor that is willing to take you approved for electives/selectives. That's not a problem. So it would be real hard to have a list of all those doctors since there are so many.
 
Hey everyone,

I have been following the DCOM thread for a while now. Congrats to all those who got in and good luck to all who are waiting including me.

I am planning to tour DCOM next week and wanted to check with you all what are the some of the main things to check out at DCOM. I confirmed with Janette to meet her and see the facility; will try to say hello to Dr. Stowers.

Any suggestions/input to make my distance visit more informative. thanks.
 
Hey everyone,

I have been following for a several weeks now and my wife and I will be also touring the campus next week on Wednesday. I applied very late in the process and received the email like everyone that my app will be reviewed by admissions soon and then if an interview is granted I will get a phone call.
So there is still hope for this year, because I know they are interviewing through April. The class is probably filling fast, but still have my fingers crossed. Non-traditional that has been on journey to get to this point. Navy 5 years, out patient and home health physical therapy 11+ years, biology major decent grades, so-so MCAT (took once in August) will retake in a couple of months if I don't get in this year. Congrats to everyone that has received the call and have been accepted. Looking forward to the tour next week.
 
I interviewed on Feb. 28th. Anyone else that interviewed this day or after heard anything?
 
for those that are on the waiting list... or those that were pulled of the list in previous years...

are there any suggestions on how to improve my situation? should I be calling them, emailing them, or leaving them alone so as not to annoy them? lol

and does anyone know when is the earliest we can expect to see movement of the list?
 
For those who have interviewed recently, has the school mentioned how many spaces are still open in next year's class? I'm interviewing Monday and curious whether they're interviewing for open seats or now for the waitlist.

I'm sorry I don't have a very informative answer for you, but during my interview we had a couple of people from the class of 2014 come in and chat with us as we waited to be interviewed. At least two of them said they interviewed in March and got in. I don't think the class is full yet if this year is like last. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Also, don't stress too much. The interview was actually very pleasant and I really enjoyed my time there. Everyone is extremely nice. I guess what they say about Southern hospitality is true!

My wife and I took the tour today and DCOM. Great facilities and very informative and friendly staff. Area is rural, but no as much as one might think since the small town of Middlesboro is 2.5miles away in KY. Small and rural for me will be good, because of no distractions. Janette Martin informed me just prior to the tour that I will be interviewing on 4/11 Monday. From what I hear this is the last day for interviews. I was informed 3000 applied, 500 will interview for up to 162 spots, 63 have been waitlisted. There is still a few spots left, but will be competitive for the last few spots. I feel very fortunate since I did not apply until 3/3/11. I was told this is very late, but look at it from my perspective. I did not intend to apply until June 1, 2011. So from that perspective I am very early. lol I am pumped about the opportunity and look forward to the interview. My odds are less than favorable, but so were they for interviewing in the first place with such a late application. Again, just thankful for the opportunity and hope to show them how much I want to and deserve to be apart of the 2015 class.
 
Any suggestions for how to move off the waitlist? I've read in several places that people have had luck with being persistent in "bothering" the admissions people. Anyone have info on what's best to do for this school?

When I talked to Janette Martin after getting word I'd been waitlisted she said "don't worry honey, I know they like you." Does she say that to everyone? I'd like to believe her, but if they liked me why didn't they accept me in the first place? Has anyone else heard something similar?
 
Janette Martin said the class seems pretty full right now, so they've reduced the number of remaining interview dates. From previous years, looks like people start dropping off in June and that is when they see increased activity off the waiting list (they haven't taken anyone off the list so far).

right now they have about 50-60 on the waiting list, and likely to have close to 100 by June. In the last 2 years about 20-30 have come off the waiting list.

also statistics wise: the average incoming class I believe has an MCAT of 24 and gpa around 3.5/3.4

So i guess us fellow waitlisters will just have to stay focused and keep hoping for the best...

I have a hard time believing the avg MCAT is only 24 for the incoming class. I made a 27 and everybody I interviewed with seemed to have me beat, some significantly so! The gpa of 3.5/3.4 seems reasonable though😀
 
yea I found it hard to believe that the MCAT would be 24 also. based on previous posts of those that are already accepted... I would have guessed 26 or 27 was a more accurate average. But that is what she told me.

I was under the impression as you all were. People I have talked to that have been accepted seem to have scores in the upper 20's and around 30ish. Did they take some people that scored in the teens to bring the average back down? haha, jk. Either way, once you're accepted somewhere, the MCAT is pretty much meaningless.
 
I think that this seemingly low average mcat comes from the interview schedule and how early people apply. Janette told me during a visit she made to my campus that very early in the cycle they were accepting 21s, 22s, 23s, etc. However, as the class fills up, it really gets more competitive.

Bottom line: if your score is lower than you'd like, it really is best for you to apply as early as possible...the later it gets in the cycle, the worse that number is going to look.

I'm speaking about this personally, because my mcat was definitely not where I wanted it to be, but I applied and interviewed early in the cycle and was accepted.

Good luck to those wait-listed 🙂 Something will definitely work out; if not this year, get everything ready for the June 1 AACOMAS and get in the game super early!
 
I just went to my doc today for all the immunization/physical/drug test madness. They must have taken a gallon of blood from me and I almost keeled over there for a minute but I am glad to have it all behind me. Well except for whatever shots I need pending the results of the lab titers. I just have to do the background check and I will be done. Is anyone finished with all the stuff in the maltriculation packet? Do they send more stuff after if you have? Thanks!

I dont know from personal experience, but at the interviews they did briefly mention it. As I recall, they said there isn't anything official but men are generally expected to wear shirts with collars while women have a little more flexibility. There was some also some sort of unwritten rule about not wearing shirts/sweatshirts with hoods. What are TOMS shoes??

straightforward question:

I know theres already been a lot of clinical rotation discussion in this thread but I have a really straightforward question. How much time must you spend in Tennessee for the CORE rotations in 3rd and 4th year.

I have heard...

3rd: 6 months core/ 6 months wherever you can set it up (so pretty much anywhere)

4th: 5 months core/ 7 months wherever

The flexibility to do rotations where you'd like is one of the biggest things that attracted me to DCOM because it gives you the ability to do many rotations in the hospital where you want to do your residency, regardless of what state that is.
 
Not all of the Core sites are in Tennessee. One is in SW Virginia and two are in Kentucky.

"Core" is a half-year consisting of six rotations, even though there are some other required rotations that will put you in that site/area. You can do core first or core second, with six months of electives/selectives first.

Third year:
-Core is internal medicine (two), behavioral medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and ob/gyn.
-Family medicine is the other required rotation, falling in the other six months.
-Three selectives, falling under medicine, surgery, and other.
-Two electives.

Fourth year
-Required: emergency medicine, community hospital (two), rural primary care.
-Two selectives, falling under medicine and surgery.
-Four electives.

Selectives are supposed to be within 60 miles of your core site, but I suspect they're lenient on that, as long as the preceptor is willing to take other DCOM students.
 
Hey I've got another question. I know I could probably just call the school and ask, but regarding re-sending college transcripts for incoming first year students--- can I just have those transcripts sent from my Interfolio account? They're still sitting there from when I did my primaries. ...Or does LMU want more recent copies sent directly from schools? I haven't taken any classes since primaries and the transcripts in my Interfolio are up to date.
 
I want to know how I'm supposed to send them my transcripts by May 15th. I won't even have my final grades by that point.
 
Did anybody from the Mon March 14th interview group get any calls/letter/email? It's exactly 3 weeks so I don't necessarily want to overreact...

I logged in...but I couldn't find where the actual e-mail was. Is that weird? it had like a calendar, announcements, etc....but I didn't see anything that said "e-mail". I also didn't sleep last night so maybe I'm delirious.
 
I was successful logging into the Pathway system. There is nothing on there that explicitly says "email," but when you log in for the first time, somewhere near the top center-ish of the screen, it will tell you that you have to confirm your credentials. When you click on that, you'll have to re-enter your username/password combo. Be sure to utilize the tutorial provided on the lmu website--if confirming your credentials doesn't work the first time, there's a link present within the tutorial that will make it so your credential confirmation works appropriately. When you get logged in for the first time, it will tell you that you have ~5 unread messages (that's how you know you were REALLY successful!)--then you can click on that and go to your inbox!!

Seems pretty neat! Getting excited 🙂

I believe they stated that it wouldn't move until late april - may. They still have interview dates in april that still need to pass.
 
Where is this pathway system you speak of? Paid my deposit and I've got my matriculation documents but I haven't heard anything about email or an online system...

Maybe check your spam box? You should have gotten an e-mail that said LMU-DCOM e-mail. It has info about how to login to the DCOM e-mail system.
 
May have missed an answer to this question already, but I'm still anxiously awaiting feedback from LMU-DCOM. As well as others, I received an email that the process was moving along and I would receive a phone call if invited to interview...

...nothin' yet. Does anyone know about how many interview dates are left? Should I assume my pathway to this school is coming to a dead end? I know it's late, but any bit of hope wouldn't hurt!

"The class of 2015 is getting full! We only have a couple more interview days left!" This is a quote from the e-mail accepted students got a few days ago. I would assume that most of those interview invites have gone out because they try and give you a couple weeks notice, and I'm pretty sure they are only interviewing through the end of April. I would start thinking about reapplying. Make sure you get your app in early! Good luck!!:luck:

I got an interview for next week. But I am not sure whether the fare is worth it based on this. Man, I really wanted a March interview. If one is interviewed here this cycle, does it help them next year?

What are my chances of getting in? 27M (3rd time) 3.3 GPA. It is going to cost me almost $1K to fly out and back (missing work, paying for babysitter, etc.)
