I've been complete for months but I just barely received an email confirming that I'm complete and that I'll be notified as soon as my file has been reviewed. Any idea what that means about my chances for getting an interview? I'm non-SDA...

I submitted my secondary in December, after being granted a deadline extension. I got an e-mail saying that my file was complete in early Jan, and a couple days later, I got an interview invite dated the same day. Could be good news!

Nope.
Interviewed Jan 10 and nothing so far.
I do not expect anything before Mid March anyways, with the ways how things are going. I think we will hear, but late.
Too bad, because I started working on Aid packages already from other schools. I wish I knew what aid would be offered from loma linda sooner than later, in case I am admitted.

is it going to be a call? or snail mail? i interviewed on 1/10 and still haven't heard anything...was anybody else besides Renovatio told that the adcom would be meeting last thursday? I called and spoke with Lenoa last tuesday, she said no decision had been made yet and that it might not be made until april...she didnt really give me any indication that adcom would be meeting so soon.....??

When I interviewed and talked to current students, I found out that lectures are Mon-Fri 8AM-12PM. All students take the same lectures at the same time. So there is a lot of time to study each day and still maintain some form a life. 👍
I can't remember if lectures are recorded or not - I know that most schools have recording and what not. I think I will be one of the students who doesn't go to class - I learn much quicker from a book than through auditory means.

hi i'm new here, and am actually going to apply this June, and was really interested in applying to Loma Linda since it is a Christian medical school. I know they give preference to Seventh Day Adventist applicants, and I'm not a Seventh Day Adventist, but am a Christian.. do they accept a large number of non-SDA as well? Also, does anyone know what the students at Loma Linda are like? Or about the school in general? Thanks a lot! 🙂

I received a phone call from Dr. Niyradi today.
I am so happy and still shaking from the news.
It is definitely true what someone else said in a post from this school: you'll receive the call when least expected. I was definitely not expecting a call on a Tuesday and from other posters who had been accepted, I was expecting a call maybe in a month or so.
I interviewed there on early Jan (solo). My application was sent on Nov 15 and it was complete sometime in early December (Idk when). Received the invite on Dec 10. I am SDA but from a University outside SDA. I believe my mdapps tell the rest of the story.
To the people who are still waiting, I wish you the same luck I had. Keep those prayers up (I certainly had a lot of praying power behind me). Remember that they interview very few people and they accept a great number of number. All the best.

they do give preference to SDA but there are not enough SDAs interested in medicine and at the application stage each year...so they take a lot of religious people that aren't SDA after determining how many SDAs they are going to take. I have heard that some years the class is only 20% SDA. the students seem alot like other med school students i have meet, they are highly diverse here though due to the location in SoCal. the school is old, but building alot these days, it runs a quarter system, it is east of LA in a crappy place. It never really gets cold (50s) but can get up to 110 - 115 in the summers. You have to sign a contract that you wont drink, smoke, or do drugs while a student and they dont serve meat or cafine in the hospital...however, their students have the highest average on step 1 clinical scores in CA (that is better than USC, UCSF, and stanford) which is impressive because their mcat and gpa scores are not too high...read this forum and go to llu.edu and you will find all you need (have fun with the application process, it blows)

I wish you the best of luck in your interview. Let me tell you that I was very nervous before mine at LLU. I actually had to pause several times during my first interview to catch my breath and come up with stuff that was not morronic in nature but the interviewers really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. The best advice I got was just be yourself, do not try to WOW them, make as if you were talking to friend you highly respect. They just want to find out if you are a good fit for the school that is all. The waiting after the interview was about a month and a half for me but if it takes longer do not desperate because I believe there are open spots til april. Besides remember that they only meet once per month around the 15th. Have a great interview and keep that faith up during the waiting.

I'm not sure that 20% SDA class size is accurate. From what I have seen, 20% of the class might come california SDA undergrads alone. (There are a lot of SDA undergraduate schools throughout the country.) La Sierra alone usually has at least 25-30 applying to medical school each year.

Usually Dr. Nyirady calls you, and then you receive a snail mail acceptance. Usually LLU's admissions office gives little info on where you stand or when they meet. you just have to wait with them...wait and pray 🙂
Lectures are not recorded, however our class set up an audio recording system, and we post the .mp3s online. Everything else though is on blackboard or in your notes.
At this point like you said, we meet from 8-12, with the occasional lab in the afternoon. I also don't go to class, but everyone is different. I advise everyone to go for at least 2 weeks to feel it out.
LLU is a SDA Christian school so they certainly have a preference for SDa's. That being said, we were told our class breakdown was about ~35% non-SDA and ~65% SDA, but it changes from class to class. There are always applicants from the many SDA colleges, so the ratio will never tip to where there are more non-sda than sda. Unless truly no sda's apply, which is unlikely.
LLU students are really nice. You can tell that most people who come here actually came here because they were interested in LLU's mission, not their match scores or their research (both which are good). Most LLU students are interested in missions and outreach, and many are interested in alot of normal things too like AMSA, research, etc.

i called the admissions office to ask in what format i'll receive word from them since i interviewed a little more than a month ago and they said i'll be getting a reply in the mail. seeing that they're supposed to call you if you got accepted, is this a bad sign? if it is, i'm so bummed...

While Dr. Nyirady calls those accepted as a courtesy, I believe their primary and official mode of notifying applicants is via snail mail. So I wouldn't read too much into what they said. If you look at all the people who got accepted, they interviewed several months ago (December), so they probably haven't even gotten to your file if you interviewed in January or in my case, February.

I interviewed in early Jan and got accepted yesterday. However, I believe there was an interview group on Jan 10th and I do not know anybody from that group that got a call yesterday.

Can you tell me about the Loma Linda area? I am considering going there and I just wanted to make sure that the area is a place that I want to live as well as going to school? I'm Christian, but not SDA, and from what you say about the school it sounds a little like when I went to my christian affiliated undergrad, Nazarene. So i think I can handle the random prayers before tests, but the no coffee and shutting down on saturday is weird. Are there decent places to go for shopping and groceries, with meat,and what is there to do there? Is there any sort of larger city near by? Yes. Only the LLU affliated areas are closed on the Sabbath which includes all of the educational facilities, the bookstore, etc. If you drive about 2 minutes down the road you'll find a plethora of grocery stores, targets, walmarts, sams club, chipotle, starbucks, etc which are open on the Sabbath.
Is there any sort of larger city near by?
Redlands and Riverside are pretty big, and they have a much more happening entertainment scene than loma linda, but if you want a real big city, you'll have to drive to Los Angeles which is about 1 h 15 m drive from LLU with no traffic. Honestly, I doubt you'll have time to enjoy anything, unless its post-test week.
And what are the living conditions like, is it expensive there, is the area nice or should I worry about anything?
LLU is surrounded by the California county with the 2nd highest crime rate (San Bernadino). With that being said, the campus is EXTREMELY safe and quiet. The worst thing that has happened to me was that my walmart bike was stolen, but my classmate from UC Berkely told me how bikes get stolen there all the time, so its not a LLU specific thing. I currently live in a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment for $975 (its about a 45 second walk from campus). If you live in the dorms, you'll pay like $480/month for rent. If you want to live in a gated community, you'll probably pay around $1350/month and you'll have to drive into class. Basically, any house or apartment within a 3 mile radius of the school has students or residents living in them, so you don't really have to worry about much.
I hope you reply to me, or at least someone does. I just wanted an honest opinion with the good and bad.
I hope I shed some light on the LLU area. I personally haven't warmed up to the area, but I really dont' like California overall (I'm a east coaster) so I'm biased. Generally, the atmosphere that you will be learning in (including the teachers and your classmates) will GREATLY outweight any cons the school has.

I have not been invited to an interview at LLU but I received an email from the LLU Financial Aid Office yesterday saying that the award cannot be made because of incomplete financial aid application. They also send me a link to log onto the system to complete the required forms.
I just went ahead and filled out the required forms and selected a Stafford/Unsubsidized Lender, but this is kinda strange 'cuz I'm not even at the gate yet. Am I wasting my time?
After months of waiting anxiously for the interview invitation now I'm waiting for the rejection letter for closure. Does anyone know when they will be sending out rejections?
For those who made it in, congrats and best wishes. I'm rooting for you.

interviewed there today and even meet doctrajay which is cool. besides my first interviewer being over 30 mins late (for a 45 min interview) I think I did well..so maybe one day (the 19th it appears) i will get a phone call as well

i said the 19th because if you look at this thread and the thread about acceptances at all schools, everyone who has been accepted to LLU this year has been called on the 19th of a month...i figure they meet maybe on the 15th and then the calls go out

Trust me, the prayers before tests are MUCH appreciated!
The coffee thing is hard for me (since I am now completely dependent upon caffeine), but you learn to deal. There are several coffee shops within a 5 minute drive (including two drive-through Starbucks). I bought a super-insulated mug and bring my own to class every morning. You can even keep a coffeemaker in your locker if you want.
The Saturday thing is weird at first, but you will adjust and in my opinion certainly isn't something to base your choice of schools on. If you want to study outside of your home there are public libraries, U of Redlands library, and coffee shops. Not being able to go to the bookstore or get something out of your locker can be annoying, but every school has minor annoyances. It is just not a big deal.
I am from LA (so I am definitely used to a big city) and I have not had a problem. There are a few things not in this area (the closest Bloomingdale's is in LA, and for nice clothing stores you have to make a 20-30 minute drive), but all of the standard chain stores and restaurants are here. There is actually a ton of development going on and new shopping centers are going up like mad. You might have issues if you are from New York City, but otherwise you will be fine.
Groceries- I do most of my shopping at Trader Joes and Costco. They both have good meat and caffeine selections. There is a Stater Bros in Loma Linda with meat and caffeine (but their produce is a little on the sketchy side).
Well, coming from LA I find it quite reasonable. It probably all depends on where you are coming from. I have my own one bedroom apartment in one of the nicest gated communities (5-10 minutes from school, pools and hot tubs, exercise center, fireplace, in-unit washer & dryer, newly remodeled interior, 24-hour maintenance) and pay just under $1100 a month (not including utilities).
The weather completely sucks during the summer and the air quality is pretty miserable. Having said that, you are basically going to be spending your time at school, home, and whatever coffee shop you frequent. I hate the heat, so this past summer my AC was basically on for 2 months straight.
Overall DoctaJay is right. None of these things matter as much as you think they will (except for the coffee, perhaps🙂).

1. What does it mean when they told me that LLU has the students with best clinical skills out of all the Us in Cali?
2. If/when do they send finaid packages to accepted students? what kinds they have?
3. Apologize my ignorance: what was the new huge construction on campus?
4. I believe their system is pass/fail, right?
5. Are they still in transition from the old curriculum (traditional) to the new (integrated)? Will my class be on the new curriculum?
6. I was told that there was a lack of basic science profs by one of my interviewers. How does this affect your education?
7. I assume if you do well in the program you could potentially match in any residency you may be interested. I know their match list is not posted but does anyone know anything about it.
8. Finally, tell me something about the facilitation of learning/technolgy available at LLU.

Hello. So I have another random question, and this question has been bugging me for a long time. I really would love to be accepted to Loma Linda, and I know their first preference is for SDA and then for non-SDA Christians. Well, I am a pretty devout Christian (Presbyterian) and was wondering for you applicants, how much you emphasized your religion and God in your applications or personal statement? I am confused as to what I should do because a.) I am not a super strong applicant (low GPA, MCAT score yet to be determined, really good personal statement and decent extracurriculars), and so I do not want to ruin my chances of getting accepted to non-Christian schools, but I do not want to lose my chance at Loma Linda either because I do not mention religion in my application. I really don't know what to do. 😕 Any comments would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. 😳

OK, so now I am terrified after reading this whole thread. I interviewed with LLU on Nov. 27, and have yet to hear anything from them. I am SDA from a non-SDA school. LLU is the only med-school I want to go to, so I am so bummed I haven't heard anything yet. Should I call to see if my rejection letter got lost in the mail?

I am too a strong Christian. However I was very cautious with my primary application and personal statement. Some things I read and people I talked to reminded me that a lot of admissions committees are made up of older, conservative people who don't want a lot of religious talk. This is not to say you should not portray who you are - do so because honesty is the only way to go with applying to medical school. However, when it came to church and my Christianity I focused on my involvement in worship teams over the years and mission team involvement (I took my Christianity and related to hard work, caring about others, and serving others).
When it comes to Loma Linda specifically, you will have the opportunity to talk about your relationship with God in your secondary application. So I would be conservative with what you say on your personal statement - you will get the chance with your secondary. (I did just that and received an interview with LLU and a non-christian medical school)
