Louisiana State University c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just a friendly bit of info from someone who religiously refreshed LSU SVM’s portal around this time last year praying for a status change: It is my belief that each time SVM staff gets into the portal, for any reason, the applicant’s end shows it had been “updated” even though nothing appears to have changed.

Don’t look too much into these “updates” and although I know it’s hard, try to relax a bit. You’ll know when an update is really something major. Best of luck!

I'm going to take your advice and just wait until the email comes in to check the portal. I wanna say thank you for sharing your experiences with us! I'm sure you were just as high strung as we are right now. I'm trying to find ways to relax at the moment. I've already knitted two hats this week in anticipation and nervousness.

I just got a phone call from a Louisiana number but didn’t pick up encased I’m at work. No voicemail. Very nervous even though I know they usually email.

Well, if it doesn't happen today, at least we'll know the email will come tomorrow! But still... pins and needles until then.

That's what I keep telling myself. At least the wait is almost over :x
I keep getting excited and scared at the same time. At least I'm not alone. Well, let's hope tomorrow is the day and we all get acceptances!

Puerto Rico applicant & got an interviewwww!!! I was shaking so bad. I am so relieved, I definitely checked that portal more than 3,000 times :cyclops:. Congratulations to all invited & accepted, well deserved!!
And to those who did not make it, lots of love your way!!! Keep positive. Believe in yourself.

To anyone who has any feedback or suggestions on how to KILL an LSU interview, send info my way pleaseeee!!!! I need ALL the help I can get 🤓🤓

For those of us that got accepted. Is there a certain day where they will hold a campus tour and talk to us about the curriculum? Or do we have to book a private tour?

The info isn’t posted yet but for class of 2023 they had an admitted students day April 6th

No idea. I’m interviewing at Mississippi State in February, which is only a few hours from LSU so I scheduled a private tour since I’ll be near-ish. There’s a form to fill out (link below) and I received a confirmation from Karena pretty quickly. Though if you submit it now you probably won’t hear until they return from break on January 6th.

Does anyone know if we are required to submit Fall grades? I assume since they already sent out offers they most likely only require final transcripts. I don't want to assume anything and I can't find any information. Thank you!

It’s located in the Prereq Descriptions section when you log into the portal:
Prerequisite Assessment & GPA Calculations Complete - The LSU SVM Admissions Office has carefully reviewed your official transcripts and has completed the calculations for your Required Course GPA and Last 45 Credit Hour GPA. You can now see details regarding any prerequisite course(s) which are still missing and/or must be completed by the end of the spring '20 semester in order to remain eligible for possible matriculation into the fall '20 semester, if any. The checklist above will include the fall '19, winter '19/'20, and/or spring '20 semester transcripts only if these materials are necessary. If the checklist does not include these transcripts, then it means the LSU SVM Admissions Office has determined you are not completing any prerequisites and as such, no transcript is required. If you feel this checklist is incorrect and you are completing prerequisite coursework not accounted for in this 'Additional Comments' section, please email Director of Admissions & Enrollment at [email protected].

Above that there’s a checklist thing. Mine says “Fall '19 Transcript Deadline - Our records indicate that you completed one or more prerequisite courses in the fall '19 semester. Your official fall '19 transcript with final grades earned for all courses must be received by the LSU SVM Admissions Office by no later than February 1st, 2020. Click here for more information.

(It’s in red like that. If you don’t have that, I’m assuming you don’t need to send transcripts. I had 1 prereq that I finished in the Fall)

Thank you so much! I think in my excitement I missed that portion.

Did anyone else receive an email from the National Student Clearinghouse that LSU had not retrieved their fall transcript?

Received my OOS alternate ranking email today.

Good or bad??
I'm 49/85 I feel it's highly unlikely they would get to my number! But then I also read somewhere that some years they get pretty far into the waitlist. I realize it's a long shot though lol

Also you have to consider that people drop from the waitlist as they’re accepted to other schools! Or decline for personal reasons. Some years schools go deep into the waitlist

That would be awesome. I shall keep my fingers crossed 🙂

And it’s super expensive OOS so many people will decline for cheaper options!

I got that too, I just emailed admissions and asked if it they had received it and potentially overlooked it and they responded and said it had been buried in the pile but that they did have it!

Are there any current LSU vet students watching this thread that I could message? I am trying to figure some stuff out for my trip to visit the school this month!

If anyone (OOS accepted or IS prospect) hasn't gone to their vet open house and can, I recommend you do! I went one year while I was in New Orleans for school and it was super fun and educational. I got to ask a lot of students about their experiences and see what the school had to offer! It's on January 25th this year. Open House | LSU School of Veterinary Medicine

I'm an OOS alternate and I wanted to hear feedback from current students. I'm leaning towards a large/farm animal track and was wondering how well students learn and work with horses, beef/dairy cattle, sheep/goats etc?

also: how do you like being a student there?

A current student told me no dress code (except for like lab attire when needed etc) but not for lecture.
The dean has mandated normal dress code as business casual. However, they’re pretty lax about it as long as you’re not wearing workout attire. Jeans and a t shirt is pretty normal for my classmates.

In the first year curriculum we get a class called clinical skills. They cover physical exams/etiquette for each veterinary pathway. Example I’ve gotten to perform physicals on dogs, cats, goats, cows, and horses. They also cover the anatomy of them all in Physiology and Anatomy.

I went to LSU for undergrad so I’m biased, but I love my classmates and all the extra curriculars the school provides. Class work is a heavy load but you figure out the best way to learn over time.

Does anyone know when final decisions for in-state students may be sent out?

Does anyone what my odds of getting in are if I'm 29/85 on the OOS waitlist?
