Anyone know the timetable for the decision
Someone I talked to who did it last year so those who apply early knew a month before classes started and those who applied late didn't know if they got in until a few (2 for this person) weeks before classes started.

1. I’m off campus. It’s cheaper and a lot of off campus housing is much better than on campus. Everyone gets free parking on campus, so if you don’t mind driving to campus. I say just find a place 10-15 minutes away from campus and drive in. I am from out of state also, but after a week of GPS’ing your way to campus, you find a simple and convenient route to campus.

2. We have mostly lectures, and we go to cadaver labs on select weekend days. We use plastic and rubber body parts and etc. most of the time though.

3. Correct MHS is separate from every other program, but the way the school is set up you will definitely be interacting with a lot of Med and dent students. There is a big sib program in MHS as well, so your big sib in MHS will be M1 or D1 students who did MHS

Thank you so much for taking time to answer all my questions!!

Is there a current student (@Grizzlysmiles ) who can also confirm that? Ugh this would def. make things a bit difficult since I'm also applying to a couple of other programs 🙁

According to admissions, the MHS program admissions process has changed. It is not by invitation only anymore and not only for people who got rejected from their med/dent school. Anyone can apply because it is being treated as a normal SMP now, that is why there is an application fee.

I think that’s true, because i saw on IG a post from a MSH student from last year that got an acceptance email August 3rd, mind you the program starts early August. She might have applied late though, idk. Sidenote: i know I’m a stalker, don’t judge me lol

That would suck, worsening our chances lol. I wish they didn’t change so many things

Wow. Smh. But I can see why. They are slowly making it more competitive to increase their Step 1 pass rate

Wait, what???? Explain further please lol
I did not apply to medical school this cycle. I knew that MHS was changing the admissions process this cycle because I talked to admissions at a conference. I completed the MHS application last Monday when it opened.

So did they send you an invite for the application or did you acquire about the application on your own? So basically you don’t need to be rejected, it’s just a free for all?

It definitely sounds like the latter. So that means that either they’ll keep the system how it is now (accept a small, competitive pool and they all get reserved seats if they meet the criteria) or accept a larger group and be more selective among those in the program meaning that the linkage wouldn’t be guaranteed. Or at least those are my speculations

How would making MSH more competitive increase their Step 1 rate ?
Well if you think about it, they turned it into an SMP and are every 2 years increasing the MCAT treshold. MCAT scores have a small correlation to Step 1 scores. This is something Meharry has struggled with because alot of there students are the type given a second chance. And from what I hear the MHS students usually become top of the class. So I'm just saying they are making it more competitive to contribute to a higher Step 1 pass rate for the class.

Yeah that makes sense, getting slightly discouraged now.. knowing it may be a bigger pool of candidates and not so much of guarantee anymore ...

Hey all. I’ve been creeping on the thread for a few days now. I just applied Monday. And we’re supposed to wait all the way until August?!......also Did anyone confirm that there will be an interview for this program? I tried looking on the website but I couldn’t find any details..

I inquired on my own. It is just a free for all like any other SMP

Your logic makes sense. I agree. Unfortunately.

The next thing to find out is what they expect the class size to be. Who is brave enough to ask? LoL

The (speculative) consensus is if you did not interview here for med school you probably will have to interview if invited.

It’s just weird because the person I spoke to over the phone said they sent the invitation to applications that they liked for their program but now I see that’s half way true. I wish their website made it clear because that $60 was a non refundable gamble.

Interesting. This is what I was hoping.ir makes sense though. They invite who they prefer but take all. So keep your head up!

Lol so do we have to fly out to their school for interviews or is there any feasible ways.. I don’t want spend unnecessary money and get rejected out the ass.
Right, especially for MHS, i could understand if it was the actual med interview.

For those that applied already, did you write a new statement for the statement of purpose or use your personal statement?

Man, I wish I would have read the rest of the thread before I submitted. I didn’t know it was becoming a free for all now, that kind of sucks. If that’s the case though, the application fee for this SMP is much more than the regular graduate school degrees ($60 compared to $40). Is that normal? Plus, there no information about the MHS on the actual website, just the M.S.P.H. And the Ph.D. And a little blurb about the technical skill for the MHS that haven’t been updated since 2014. Maybe this is the first time their trying it this way and we all get grandfathered in?

Yea. I just included an update since submitting my app and what I wanted to gain from the program and the usual why meharry at the end. It’s very similar to my original one tho

+1 to that.. That's exactly what I did as well!

Nobody answers the phone.......... I just need final confirmation about putting their email address for the recommendation section.

Yea, some people in my cohort were getting accepted up until the first week of classes. So like, August 8, and 9th. I think that was just because a few people dropped out last minute and they filled those spaces up.

Also I saw someone say earlier that there is still hope for you all, and there definitely is. If you were especially chosen to apply to MHS that means that your applicant was great, they just want to make sure you can do graduate level work before they commit you to the full 4 years. So if you were selected to apply to MHS I can almost guarantee that you have a MUCH stronger chance of getting accepted than someone who just happened to apply.

I was wondering if anyone was able to get a hold of them, and ask about class size for this year?

I think this will reveal a lot regarding whether it will be a safer bet that a seat will most likely be reserved for u like last years if u fulfill the requirements, or whether it will be much harder to get into med/dental school next year due to a sudden size increase in class!

LOL they heard our concerns!

So i wonder based on the email they just sent out, it’s doesn’t seem like they will be doing interviews.. and just for clarification are they saying we should submit our transcripts or only if they ask for it ?

And y’all think expedited review means like 1-2 weeks???
