Any chance they'll make it up to the 140's on the alternate list? Probably not. 🙁 #feelingdefeated

Don't lose hope yet. It's not over until it's over. They go through a lot because of how expensive tuition is. And there's always next year. I made a back up plan just incase this happened so I'm just trying to focus and get excited for the next step.

My problem is this is the only thing I've ever wanted to do so I don't have a back up plan. I keep applying and keep getting denied. It's pretty defeating.

I know. This is the only career I want as well. This is my first time applying but I thought for sure I would be accepted somewhere, yet I was rejected to three and waitlisted at two. It's difficult but all we can do is keep trying. How many times have you applied? I'm dreading going through the application process again :dead:

@AnimalsAreBetter - Agreed! Don't give up - I was so shocked and thankful to be accepted. I sat in Houston traffic sobbing, I was so happy. The BIG factor for me, however, is that A&M is almost half the cost. If things go as I pray, I will happily pass my seat along to someone else, pending A&M. 🙂 Also keep in mind that they sent very few acceptances this year - I think she said that this year they only sent 30 something initially so that they don't over offer.

i have applied twice already after not trying the first year because the admissions person at UPenn said I wouldn't get accepted anywhere if I applied at that point.

Thank you for your encouragement! I emailed and asked what my chances were and they said they accepted 50 this year. I'll still try to stay hopeful! I'm so glad you got in, congrats! =] Best of luck in school!

Hey dont feel defeated! My friend was close to the very end of the waitlist for MSU last year. She got the call she was accepted in June last year. Stay hopeful 🙂
Wow really? What Number were they if you don't mind me asking.

#21 on the waitlist - not exactly what I wanted, but I’ll take it with fingers crossed!

New to sdn... just wanted to see what everyone else was going through! OOS alternate! They’re my # 1 but my number on the waitlist doesn’t make me so hopeful. When I emailed to inquire my info they said they aren’t so sure how people are going to decide based off the new program and such. Just stressful!

I am in the same boat. i am pretty far in the wait list and feel like there is no chance but... can never say never! It might happen who knows

I know... everyone keeps telling me at least it wasn’t a deny... doesn’t make it any easier to try to figure out a game plan :/ some of my friends currently in other schools were waitlisted and now attend their school but the stress is eating at me

What # Are you?

For those of you who have been waitlisted/rejected -

As others have mentioned above, please do not give up hope! This is my 4th time applying to vet school (yes, 4th!!! - 1st time applying to MSU though) and I was certain that I would be waitlisted this year after my interview there last week. I convinced myself on that and was already making plans on re-taking a few of my prerequisites over the spring and summer. My GPA is not as stellar as most, but I had A LOT of experiences to back me up - veterinary, animal, and challenges/accomplishments in my life. You can imagine my shock and surprise when I checked my email last night at work and was floored when I saw I was accepted. I had to have my co-worker read the email to confirm that what I thought it said was actually true!

You never know what life can throw at you, and I hope you all get accepted, either to MSU or elsewhere. I'm rooting for all of you!!! You've all come so far, and I know everyone's hard work and determination in this profession will pay off eventually. 🙂

I'm sure you'll get in you're pretty low on the wait list!
Thank you for the boost!
Anyone have good ways to relax
I’ve started bullet journaling! Great way to incorporate art (or doodles, or whatever) while keeping yourself organized! I find sitting down to write or set up a new week’s planner page really meditative!

she was in the 100's. I dont know how many people were on the waitlist last year, but she says she was near the end of it. so stay positive!
and to add to this, looking at the class of 2021 profile, they offered seats to 147 total OOSers, and 37 of those accepted.

My first time applying to vet school and I was accepted for the class of 2022!! OOS (btw). Very floored to get the email at work yesterday. Everyone that was working ran into the treatment room to congratulate me and one of my coworkers cried, lol :'(

I haven't submitted my confirmation yet as I will wait to see if I am accepted to my other school of choice but I will post in here in case I do decide to go to my other school to give someone my spot 🙂

Does anyone know when they will be updating IS people on the waitlist? I’m dying to know if I moved up or not

A friend of mine who is on the waitlist was told to check back after March 14th. It looks like from last years posts, people on the IS waitlist started getting offers in the beginning of April. What number on the waitlist are you?

I feel you I'm waitlisted for IS too and time just is going by so slow. They told me I could check back after March 14th

i’m number nine so fingers crossed

@StayingPositive2017 I'm not sure about 2021, but a few people(including myself) have little ones. Glad to add another to the extended family!

Random question - what are people's thoughts on all of the Michigan State scandals? I know that this has nothing to do with the vet school, but is it influencing your decision in any way? Just curious.

Hey there!

I just wanted to say don't let what any "advisor" or "admissions" person tells you make you feel like you aren't good enough.

A little backstory... I had a really hard time adjusting to undergrad coming from high school coupled with working a job, playing a sport, and interning on the side. I ended up not passing an organic chemistry class twice (just barely missed both times) and I got kicked out of my intended major. When I went to my designated advisor he essentially told me there was no way I could make it back into the sciences and that I should just give up and try to find something else I like. This made me feel really crummy too, actually to the point of almost dropping out of school (I was at the end of my 3rd year at the time). After having an inner battle with myself of what I wanted and what this person told me I was capable of , I ended up sucking it up and finishing out my last year strong under a different major I was semi interested in to finish with a degree.

I then went and found a different advisor at a different school and he was such a night and day difference to my last advisor. He took a look at what my grades were and asked me what my goals were and went absolutely above and beyond to show me that it was possible, it would just take time and a lot of work. And so here I am, 5 years out from my undergrad graduation date, applying for my first time for vet school, after many years of putting in the time and work, and I've finally gotten in from being so set back so early on.

Don't stop believing in yourself. Maybe find an advisor at a local community college who can help give you some advice on how to make yourself more competitive compared to other applicants. Retake your GRE's and try and get better scores. Try to find different experience with different animals to make yourself stand out. Do some research and try and find some other schools you qualify for aside from the normal ones you have been applying to the last couple of years. There are so many things you can do to make yourself a better looking applicant! Don't lose faith. If this is truly what you want, then you will make it! Good luck 🙂

Accepted OOS. Very exciting.

Can a current student comment on where they source the dogs (or whatever type of animal) that are used for learning there? I know some schools use beagles - and the beagles are then adopted at the end of the school year. Other schools use shelter dogs. I did not hear about this aspect of the program on my tour and would like to know. Any info/insight is very much appreciated.
I guess it depends on what youre meaning by sourced. For the dissection in anatomy they get dogs from some company in California that preserves them and does the vasculature injections so you have the red and blue vessels. As far as live animals for palpation and physical exam practice, they use beagles from our in house research colony. They do some opthalmic research with them. They animals that aren't carriers for the genes they want do end up getting adopted out.

I'm not actually sure what happens to the dogs, aside from the ones who are adopted because they don't have whatever condition they're studying (I'm thinking glaucoma, or something along those lines).
I think they're pretty well kept. They are socialized a bit, get time out in the exercise yard on the far side of the school when weather permits, and they seem to be enjoying themselves for the most part whenever I've interacted with them. We didn't have any part of their care, aside from a few of the upper class students who help with palpation and clinical skills stuff.
I know that with the new curriculum they've planned out more time doing skill building things in the new lab space that's being built/renovated. We currently use alot of models (for stuff like venipuncture and restraint, and LA palpation). I'm not sure what the plans are as far as live animals go, they may just be using the same dogs more often.

Has anyone from the alternate list been contacted with an acceptance yet? Or are they not doing that until March 1st
Don't take this as official word, but I believe they wait until set points to send more out. If March 1st is what some of y'all have been told, that's probably one, and there will be another after April 15th, or whenever the deadline to accept offers is. Anything after that may get sent out as they're notified of people dropping.
