Midwestern Class of 2020 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not yet, Im on the quarter system so basically all of the dates available are around midterms and finals for winter quarter lol....I actually may postpone choosing a date for about two weeks until I get my syllabi for winter so I can effectively plan.
I was super lucky, they had one right in the middle of my spring break. They also had my birthday...but I felt like that might've been a bad idea.

All I know is that the interview options I had filled up very quickly. I originally had 3 choices, and 2 days later I only had 1 choice. I hope the dates you get work out for you!

I just got an e-mail about 2 hours ago. Waitlisted. Hadn't heard anything in about 8 weeks. Nothing changed in my portal. OOS.

If it's anything like last year and I believe it is, as the available dates fill up, they will offer more dates.

It really doesn't matter for MWU if you are OOS or not as it is a private University and there is no IS tuition or anything. Just saying. I am sorry you were wait listed though. But Midwestern moves through the list a lot. So have hope!

Yep, this is what happened to me. Was originally offered a November 18th interview date, but had a student come in who I had to tutor so I wasn't able to register immediately. Once they'd left, they'd already filled that date (they tend to prefer to have rather small interview groups, so they do fill up SUPER fast). I emailed the school and they told me I would have to wait for more dates. Several hours later, I was able to sign up for an interview on December 2nd.

So no worries, @cheddar87! Congratulations to you and the others who have recently recieved invitations to interview! It's a very laid-back and fun experience. 🙂

I also received an email early this morning that I'm waitlisted for an interview. 🙁 I'm a little bummed, but still hopeful. I have interviews with two other schools coming up, and still waiting to hear from one more school!

alright past, present, or future students....how are yall handling the looming debt? I ADORE midwestern, its been on my radar for a year. I love the facilities, the area, and its not far from my hometown. However, I convinced myself i would not attend here because of how incredibly expensive it is. Now that I have received the interview invite, the excitement about this school has been re-ignited....its everything I have ever wanted but almost $350k in loans sounds like a nightmare...what are you guys doing to prepare or calm the anxiety associated with tuition? I really would love to go here

So I've been checking my portal once and awhile this morning and noticed something was updated - for some reason now it is saying that I am missing 4.0 hours of biology prerequisites, so now I am freaking out because I took Bio I and II. I'm hoping this doesn't delay my admissions decision. Should I just email admissions or..?? Is it possible this could be referring to an upper-level science class? I just finished genetics this fall semester, so.

I'm not sure, but maybe wait a few hours and email them if it doesn't change...? I know the admissions committee is meeting today and so things could be tweaked around as they update our portals. At any rate, I don't recall anything saying that they had to specifically be upper-division...? Sorry, not the most helpful post. It would probably be a good idea to email/call and see if you can find what's up.

But now you have me paranoid and wanting to check mine! Hahaha. :brb:

Definitely call them.

I did notice that I now have all of my prereqs listed on the Applicant Checklist page, but they're all checked off so it seems I'm fine on that front. Sorry I'm not more help. 🙁

That's okay! Thanks for letting me know. I just called and left them a voice mail since no one picked up. 🙁 I know they're probably very busy today especially if the committee is meeting.

I am hoping even if this is an error on their part that it won't disqualify me from being accepted since I think some students could still owe some classes from the spring semester.

Apologies, guys - I know I'm freaking out, but thank you for listening!

It's probably just an oversight, especially if you were like me and actually majored in biology. According to last year's thread, there were some small errors like that on a few applicants' portals, but they were fixed after they were brought to the school's attention. No worries, I'd imagine. 🙂

Now back to your regularly scheduled freaking out and constant refreshing. :dead:

I have officially declined my offer to attend MWU. I was really impressed by the school and the program and think that prospective students will be able to get a quality education there. I am very fortunate to have been accepted to University of Florida. The cost of attendance at MWU is just too high for me to really even consider this school. Hopefully my spot will be offered to someone else on this thread.

Well, I got my transcripts sorted out with MWU. In the process I also found out I was listed as an alternate. I'm disappointed, but I know this isn't a flat out rejection. There has been no change in my portal otherwise, though. For those curious, I interviewed December 2nd.

I'm sorry to hear this, but like you said... Midwestern goes through quite a lot of their alternates since most of those who are accepted decline for cheaper schools. It's not a no, for sure! Keep your head up; you may very well be accepted down the line! 🙂

According to last year's thread, it looks like accepted students were able to access the Accepted Students checklist starting at approximately 4 PM EST, so it appears that some of us may be finding out where we stand very soon!

Just checked my portal and found out I was accepted today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT WOOT love this school!!!!!!
YAY! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you and it was great meeting both you and @eldritchelectricalcorvid at the interview!

No changes on my end yet... the only update to my portal thus far has been the addition of the prereq checklist. I'm starting to fear the worst. :sorry:

Well, nothing new has been added to my portal. So I think it's safe to assume that I'm either an alternate or rejected. 🙁 Not going to lie, I was very impressed by Midwestern, so I am pretty bummed out... I am almost certain that it was my cumulative GPA that was the nail in the coffin.

Oh, well. If I wind up being an alternate, at least there is still a decent shot at eventually getting in. And, if not, I've still got three other schools to hear from.

Good luck to everyone else!

Sorry ketone 🙁 I hope you hear good news soon! <3

PS. your avatar reminds me of when a certain someone fed me a crow (or raven?) pie and I could only speak in "caws". Ahem. @PrincessButterCup

Thanks for the support, @hazelmoo. 😍 I'm just waiting for the official email now... I am really, really hoping that I'm an alternate and not outright rejected. I LOVED Midwestern when I interviewed.

My GREs, experiences, and science GPA are all higher than Midwestern's averages, from what I've seen, and I've got a general upward trend. So I can only assume it was my cumulative GPA that really killed my chances. And unfortunately, I can't do anything about it at this point with the number of credits I have. :depressed: This is what happens when you're a dumb freshman majoring in a field you don't like and wind up getting three Ds in classes that don't matter but still drag that number down a lot. I guess I was just hoping that maybe the fact that I've really excelled in the sciences/pre-reqs would compensate somewhat. My interview wasn't fantastic, either, which I'm sure didn't help.

Oh, well. Onward and upward, I'spose.

And yes! I do remember the pie incident quite well! Hahaha.

Don't lose hope! I really loved the school too. You never know, they may have you as an alternate and the list moves pretty fast I hear. It will all turn out for the best!

Yeah I had my Illinois interview on my birthday last year....but I was accepted so maybe it was good luck?

You were in my interview group!

Congratulations! 🙂 I was in the December 2nd group, as well. @dabree55, @eldritchelectricalcorvid, and I actually all happened to be sitting at the same table during lunch. It was such a fun day! 😀

Thanks so much! I hope you hear from them soon too!! Anyway, I wonder if I was sitting with you all at lunch as well... round table with a large animal vet prof and a current student? Either way, everyone I met there was awesome!

I am in the same boat as you. I had some mishaps as in my earlier college years that have brought down my cumulative GPA, but I have a significant upward trend overall and have a lot of experience. My GRE scores are weak, though.

Here's to hoping we get selected from the alternate list. <3

And congrats to everyone who was accepted today!

My portal updated!!!!! Ahhhh!!! I'm accepted!! (That is what being able to see the accepted checklist means right?! I'm not getting all excited and crazy for nothing, right????)
Yes. 🙂 Congratulations!

Out of curiosity, has anyone recieved the official decisions email yet? Supposedly it's automatically generated, so it can come at any time, but it sounded like last year's applicants had recieved it mere hours after the portal change. I am really, really getting worried... :nailbiting:

Mine came 2 days later along with a phone call. Letter got mailed like 9 days later. Hang in there 🙂

Congratz guys for getting accepted!!! I'm still waiting for mine... 🙁

So they got back to me and I'm an alternate. Normally I'd be disappointed, but considering my stats and how I feel I completely botched the interview, I'm actually pleasantly surprised.

Keep the hope alive! Haha. :dead:

yay crossing my fingers for you!!!!

So I had this same struggle as well. I work at a hospital with 20+ doctors and have been talking to the doctors a few years into practice and also the interns just fresh out of school. One of the doctors I talked to has $400k in loan debt but with the new financial aid programs it's really helpful. There is one program that's 15% of your salary for 25 years and after that your loans are forgiven and a new one that started in 2014 that is 10% of your income for 20 years and then the rest is forgiven. Seeing as we will not be making very much as vets, especially not in the first few years the monthly payment is actually not to bad. Even starting off strong at 70k a year 10% is only less than $600 a month. So at 10% of 70k that's $140k paid off over 20 years and the rest is forgiven (although I believe you have to pay tax on it still which is very expensive but in the long run your not having to pay the full 350k+ and you are still a successful DVM). Yes it's very intimidating to be in debt for 20-25 years but this is just the way the profession is so they have made ways to take the burden off. I'm sure none of us will be living lives of luxury and may struggle financially at time but I absolutely love Midwestern and know this is the school for me so I am willing to take that leap and get my degree and I think hard work all the way through and into our careers will pay off and we will be able to defeat this mountain of debt hanging over us. That's just my thoughts on the matter. Anyways congrats to all of those newly accepted and I can't wait to move to AZ this summer and start as part of the MWU-CVM Class of 2020!

Love what you said, and been having the same thoughts with the new financial programs. Actually was telling my mother about them the other day. I feel the same. I love everything about Midwestern (from what ive seen through massive amounts of research) and I really dont think theres any other school Id rather be!:highfive:

I'm (needlessly) worrying about admissions stuff since my interview is so late. Do they just move you to the next semester if they don't have room in the class? Since they're accepting people now. ): someone tell me it's all going to be okay.
