Mississippi State c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
RIP to their servers if they didn't send them in waves 😆 !
I definitely think it is in waves..... someone from my school just got hers around 5 PM CST and her last name is after mine. It is a different admissions person this year so it could be different this year. I got my rejection immediately at the same time as everyone else last year. Though I would find it incredibly discouraging if I got rejected again this year....

It sucks ive been through it before. Keep the faith and make changes where they are needed. I always say God gives his hardest battles to his toughest soldiers. Keep your head up

will they be sending out rejection letters then?
Possibly...or maybe sending interviews in a span of days. Unlikely, but maybe. I got my rejection at like 9:24 last year...Keep the faith no bad news yet. It’s giving my stress colitis lmaoooo

My main thing is last year (was in this boat) I got mine late as well. But they were sending out rejections and interviews concurrently.... plus the interviews are being sent out earlier than last year. I’d keep our heads up for now.

Congratulations to everyone that got interviews! I haven't received anything yet, and my hopes are dwindling, but for everyone else feeling discouraged I just want to let you know that you can do this. This is my third time applying to veterinary school, and it's been a heartbreaking experience every year. Just remember this is our passion and this is what we were put on this earth to do; it might take several years to get in, but we will get there together. Don't give up hope and please keep trying, there is such amazing potential inside all of us and I am so excited to one day be surrounded by such a passionate and driven group of colleagues

Talk about dedication and perseverance!! I hope this is your year! :biglove:

Any idea how many interviews vs. applicants? It states that
  • Registration (including photos and lab coat sizing)
do all the schools do this? Or are they more selective on their interview choices?

Many schools have you try on coats to select your size and will take your first year photos during interviews. The next time you see them, they will be coating you so they have to know in advance.

Hey! I'm in class of 2023, and I just wanted to let you know that y'all will be great! Everything will work out exactly how it's meant to, and you will end up where you're supposed to be. If this isn't your year, hey, maybe that just means next year is!

And yes, you will try on coats and have your picture taken at interviews. The coat size will be what they order for your official student lab coat, and your picture will go in a directory with a little bit of info about you for your new classmates and faculty.

If y'all have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask! I've been where y'all are, and I know just how stressful it can be. Keep the faith!

so when should I expect my rejection email...should just send them all at once...no point for an emotional rollercoaster or to give everyone false hope lmao...#salt

Did anyone not receive anything? Should I call them Monday?

I would just in case! Make sure you paid the supplemental fee but otherwise i would call ASAP!

I did, I’ve got the bank statement, and an email from them confirming they received my supplemental fee! Idk what I would do if they tried to pull some nonsense that they never received it because I have all the proof to show it.

Also got rejected last night, OOS. Oh well, still waiting to hear back from 4 schools.

Finally got my email, they spelled my email wrong :mask:

What airport is everyone flying to? I was debating either flying to the one right by the school or the one in Jackson since it's cheaper.

Last year we had around 1400 applicants. About 350 got interview invites. 95 of those were accepted.

Anyone else get the snail mail note from MSU today? I thought it was such a nice gesture! 😍

I got a letter too! I thought it was weird since I actually turned down my interview but I guess that was after the letter was mailed. I wonder how many applicants get that letter? Did you also get a letter that you were eligible for a scholarship?

I’m not sure if they sent it to everyone or just some?? I didn’t get the scholarship part but I did specify in one of their essay questions that I’m using the GI Bill to pay for school. So it would be weird for them to send me the scholarship thing!

May be a little late to the game, but has anyone found information on if Mississippi state offers tracking? Not a huge deal for me either way. Just curious.

No tracking because the NAVLE doesn't track haha! There are opportunities though in your third and fourth years while in clinics to personalize your route using electives and externships! It is kind of the best of both worlds in my opinion!

Hey! We do not track. Upon graduation, all graduates will have completed rotations and coursework for both small and large animal. However, if you were more interested in large animal, for example, you could opt for more large animal electives or externships.
Also, our college did away with problem based learning a few years ago!

thanks for the response! That’s very helpful. My interview is in early February and I am very excited to get a feel for the school and area.

thank you! While my primary interest is in small animal, I would prefer not to track.

My interview is next week I’m so nervous!! Anyone have any tips or insights on how the interviews have gone in the past? 🙂

Mine is too! I know it’s cliche, but literally The friends that I have that graduated last year (and are now first years) have consistently told me that it’s very relaxed and conversational. Know your application forwards/backwards, and once you present an opinion on something -stick with it!

good luck everyone with interviews starting tomorrow!!🙂

Anyone have an interview tomorrow thats going to the pizza party tonight?

I’ll be there🙂
Would love to meet you! If you have any questions about Starkville in general lmk! My best friend is a first year and said to wear jeans also so that’s what I’m going with

So for the pizza party, it was casual attire? My interview is next week and I kind of figured but didn't want to be the only one underdressed haha

Does anyone know where most vet students live near campus? Wanted to scope it out maybe while I'm out here for my interview just in case!

Hey! They’re kinda spread out. Some students rent houses in the cotton district, some stay in various apartment complexes surrounding the school. And some do trailers that are about 10 minutes from the school!

I had a nice jumpsuit on but the majority had jeans and a nice top.

I wanted some opinions on a potential interview question that I may be asked. I know that many schools ask about student loans etc. to see if you have understanding of the financial burden and how to handle money. If I will not be taking out student loans for veterinary school and will be graduating debt free (a family member generously offered to pay), will this be looked down upon? I wanted some insight on how to go about approaching this question without seeming like I don't understand money or work ethic.
