MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats on all the Yale acceptances!!

For those who have been accepted to Yale's Health Care Management department-- what day did you receive confirmation of your application being "complete" and sent for review?

I submitted 11/20 but wasn't sent for review until 12/11. I know they're rolling admissions so I wanted to know if the first couple of "waves" of acceptances that were sent came from people who were completed before 12/11??
Applied to HPM on 12/1 and received my notification that it was sent for review on 12/3

Hello! Does anyone know if you have to fill out your FAFSA in order to be considered for scholarships at Yale?
On their website it says they highly recommend submitting FASFA by 2/1 to be accurately considered for scholarships

I got my email on 11/20 saying my app was under review for Yale HPM and haven’t heard anything yet as far as decisions go.

Hello everyone. I decided to do a post with my profile after (finally) finishing all my applications. I am a recent medical graduate from Mexico. I am currently working as a research assistant to meet the work requirements to apply for my medical license. As a bonus for finishing my applications, I woke up today to a letter of admission from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for the MSc in Epidemiology. I sincerely wish everyone the best and hope everyone is hearing good news!

Undergraduate School: International (Mexican university)
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 3.68 (WES/SOPHAS verified)
Major/minor: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
Grad GPA n/a
Grad studies n/a
GRE(including date taken): V161 (88%) Q156 (60%) AW4.5 (81%) (15/11/19)
IELTS: 8.5

Experience/research:

- 1 year as an intern after finishing my med school program at a tertiary care center in Mexico city.
- 1 year as research assistant at the National Institute of Rheumatology in Mexico city.
- 2 summers working as a behavioural therapist/medical aid in Toronto with kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- All through med school I volunteered in a local elderly home as a medical aid (4 years)
- Volunteer work at the Mexican Red Cross for a year.

Letters of Recommendation
- My supervisor from my year doing research.
- Head of Genetics department at my University.
- Head of Biochemistry department at my university.

Interested in: Chronic disease epidemiology. I would like to study the link between obesity and inflammatory mediated diseases. Especially the relationship between BMI and diets high in sugar contents with Chronic neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers.

I recently finished med school in Mexico and plan on continuing doing clinical work in some way or another after graduation. I would like to work for my local health department as an epidemiologist for a couple of years in order to get enough experience and apply for a position with Doctors Without Borders.

Applied: JHU (MHS - Epi), JHU (MSPH - GDEC), Harvard (MPH-65 Health Policy), University of Minnesota (MPH Epi), Columbia (MPH Epi), Imperial College London (MSc Epi), Cambridge (MSc Epi), LSHTM (MSc Epi)

I submitted on SOPHAS 10/26 and was marked complete two weeks later.

Hi all,

I submitted late and am anxious to figure out SOPHAS' current 'complete to verification' time. It seems like quite a few people were verified in 1-3 business days in December. Has anyone been verified in January? TIA!

My Columbia and Johns Hopkins applications were verified less than a day after submitting them.

I submitted my others sooner, but I just submitted Dartmouth yesterday and it went verified within a couple of hours. I got an email with tracking from the school last night.

Did anyone hear back from Rutgers for Spring 2020 MPH? Also do they send out their rejections via mail? I was told I would hear back by today.

I have my Dartmouth interview on monday (it will be my first interview for any MPH programs). Does anyone have advice/tips on what to prepare answers for/what to expect? It says it'll be 30 minutes.

I had my interview a couple days ago with a recent graduate of the program. It was pretty straightforward-- I was asked why Dartmouth, why MPH, and to elaborate on a time I've worked on a team. I'd say it was pretty casual.

i know i'm the zillionth person to ask this kind of question, but has anyone heard from brown yet?

How soon does it take to hear back from Yale regarding scholarships? Is it 10 days or longer usually?

I'm still waiting, but when I asked I was told I should hear back within 10 days of my acceptance.

For those who have been admitted to Michigan's MPH programs (I got into General Epi): admissions let me know that "the scholarship committee will likely meet regarding scholarship decisions in mid-January" and that if I haven't heard back by late January/early February it would be fine to reach out. I was admitted 12/13, so that might differ for those who have been admitted more recently.

I still haven't heard back from Columbia, BU, or GWU. I know Columbia and BU will likely be later responses, but I'm surprised GWU hasn't notified me yet. Would it be appropriate to reach out?

Hello! Does anyone know about this 75% scholarship for the second year at Johns Hopkins for the MSPH? Is that guaranteed if you work for JHU? If that's the case, are jobs that make you eligible for this scholarship hard to get? Really I don't know anything about it, but it makes a really big difference

In my acceptance letter, all it says is that in the second year of your program you will receive the 75% tuition scholarship as long as you are registered as a full-time student and maintain good academic performance. I don't believe you need to have a job with them, but maybe being an RA may supplement the remainder of tuition costs?

anyone applying to USF (South Florida) and heard back? I received a call saying they reviewed my application but wanted me to call back to chat. Not sure what that means but at least it’s not a flat out rejection.

Has anyone heard from Maryland yet? I know not many are applying there, but I'm in-state, so really hoping to get in!

I was also accepted to USF recently which is super affordable, but doesn't really compare with JHU or GW since I could attend at least some courses there in-person (I'm definitely more of an in-person learner). UMD seems to hit that middle ground nicely. Hoping I won't just have to pick the least expensive option, but obviously can't just go to the more expensive schools without reason!

Was just accepted to USF last week for Epi!

I haven’t heard from Maryland since I got the application under review email on 11/15. In the email they did say “although the review process differs by department, on average application review may take up to 6-8 weeks from the priority deadline.” Since their priority deadline was 12/13 I’m thinking it will be awhile.

Just emailed Columbia and received a reply that the admissions team is shooting to send out the first wave of results in mid February. Seems like we’ll have to wait a while!

Bummer! I was looking forward to hearing from them this month 🙁

Thanks for sharing! Was this for a specific department or school-wide?

JHU has my application forever and I wish they would go ahead and admit me or reject me. Seriously, it's been since November 18!

Good morning! Has anyone heard about scholarship, fafsa, or anything else related to finances at UNC? Any info would be appreciated!

For those that applied to Dartmouth, I have an interview this week and I am a bit nervous. Any advice?

For those already accepted to Michigan, have you received financial aid information yet? I was accepted in mid December and have not heard back regarding aid.

True, I'm just so impatient!! Lol

Good luck to you!

SOPHAS is doing a virtual grad school fair tomorrow through CareerEco. I don't remember why I started receiving emails from them, it may have been through SOPHAS, but for anyone who isn't aware it may help with some financial aid and other questions to sign up and chat with your specific schools! It is a lot faster than waiting for emails. I participated in the fall and found it really convenient and user friendly.
