MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey to my fellow international students - how are you planning to finance your degree? Private loans?

Hi! I just emailed admissions about changing from health policy to health management and apparently since the management programs is so intertwined with the school of management, you need to put your application back under review and send a new personal statement. So you might not get admitted. I’m not sure what this means for keeping the program you’ve got, but I’m probably not going to risk it and instead take some of the management concentration courses as electives (this is allowed, thankfully!)
Oh gosh, thank you!! I'm going to email and see what it would mean for the concentration im already in. I would really like to do health management and take advantage of the dual degree program!

Got into UCI and received the Public Health Diversity Fellowship! (Partial tuition coverage - it doesn't say how much...)
Wasn't even considering Irvine until this moment haha

I applied 11/23
Omg congrats!! I think you’re the first UCI acceptance I’ve seen 🎉 what concentration did you apply for?

I have officially committed to UNC! I was going to wait until I received my financial aid but honestly the anxiety of waiting got to me since I’m moving from another state and need to get my housing situation in order. I hope to get some type of funding through an RA position or to leverage my scholarships from other schools. I want to thank everyone on this forum for being so informative and caring. Applying as a first generation college student was very hard, but this forum was so helpful. I wish everyone success in their programs and beyond!

I’m thinking about applying to the MPH/MBA dual degree program during my first year! I emailed Yale SOM asking about it, I’ll let you know if I hear anything that would be good to know!

Oh very cool! Let me know too, please. I wonder how it will affect our scholarship/financial aid from YSPH though.

After many months of waiting and waiting. I decided to officially commit to UCLA Community Health Sciences. Which makes me a double bruin!! 😀

Although I haven't received final financial offers from others schools such as UNC, Rutgers, Emory, Brown or Boston U. I believe UCLA is the best fit for me because of proximity ( I live in LA), Tuition price (in state + Tuition remission if I work), and unforeseen family health complications. I want to thank everyone for their support during this cycle and with that being said I am officially done!! I got into 7 of the 8 schools I applied to with 1 waitlist (Columbia). I only dreamed of graduating high school and to be here in this position is so unbelievable.. Goodluck to all you brilliant souls!! I'm sure we will cross paths in the future <3 Also shout to all the first generation, low income, BIPOC students. y'all are DOING IT!!!!! 😍
Congrats 🙂 i'm considering CHS at UCLA too, have you heard back about merit aid?

That’d be amazing!! Thank you

Oh, my gosh... The demand for MPH has increased dramatically more early than I have expected.
I’m also so excited that we’re seeing a huge shift at the educational level: Applications to degree programs hosted by the Harvard Chan School increased over 40 percent, and applications to the MPH in epidemiology program increased 177 percent. That tells me that our future leaders truly embrace the primacy of public health.

Thank you! That still helps haha.

I spoke to two people, one current student and one former student. The former student said that she chose Columbia to be in the city and their Global Health program. The program had a 6-month placement so that's why she chose Columbia but said that if I'm "just trying to do an MPH then there's nothing amazing about the Columbia program and it is super expensive" and to "not worry about the ratings" (something I had asked her about).

The current student said that Columbia is "being really staunchy with their money [and that they are] right now striking tuition increases and the graduate student worker union is also striking to get better benefits" she also said that it has been tough but that she chose Columbia because of the network and also after hearing Dr. Bob Fillilove speak at admitted students day. She also said that career services also spoke and that she thought their "resources were outstanding compared to [her] other options"
The career services are a major reason I'm still considering Columbia despite a scholarship from Yale! But a Yale current student (in a diff program though) told me that being a Yale alumni will still open up job prospects and there's a Yale alumni network in major cities too! NYC was a big draw with their gazillion work opps but COVID is making me reconsider focusing heavily on location.

I'm so confused why I haven't heard from Mailman yet regarding aid. I don't think it is good news, but if they're only going to disperse me loans, I would like to know sooner rather than later...
I'm in the same boat (also a JD/MPH applicant) and I'm wondering if it's possible they don't give us a financial aid offer until the year we'll be starting at Mailman? That's apparently how BU does it based on what they said in my acceptance letter with no scholarship offer so I feel like Columbia could do it the same way, but I'm not sure at all.

I agree, I think it has something to do with that. Have you heard from CLS yet?

Sorry if this has been asked-
Has anyone had experience with appealing for more merit scholarship aid JHU? If so, who did you email?
Feel free to DM! Thanks so much. Congrats on all your acceptances!

i thought uci didnt receive my application since i havent heard anything. but just got accepted to uci with $3000 scholarship for next summer 🤣 but i already committed myself to usc so i will respectfully decline the offer and hopefully my declination can open up a spot for someone who really wishes to get into uci.

Same here, just wanted to come back and say I got my acceptance from UCI as well. They kept us waiting forever lol.. might be a tough call though, they offered me a scholarship so it's under consideration but then again... haha i already committed to UCLA so I will decline the offer later this evening probably
