MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interesting ... I applied 12/1 and routed for review 1/20

It feels a bit chaotic to me since 5-6 weeks would be like March....
I emailed last week (before I received the confirmation) and they said they just started importing apps in because they were backed up by the number of spring apps they got. Hopefully things are smooth sailing from here but it seems a bit disorganized from everything I've read on here.

Has anyone heard back from BU Epi? Getting antsy because Columbia is so expensive and they're the only ones I've heard back from ...
Not Epi but I emailed BU a few days ago asking to add an updated resume on my file. Usually, the other schools I've emailed have been very accommodating but BU said that they can't add my updated resume since it's "already been forwarded for review". Not sure what this means in terms of admission decisions but hopefully it's coming soon ..?

Hey y'all! I was waitlisted at BU this morning and wondering if anyone had any advice for me on what to do now? I love Boston University's MPH program so much and have not seen anyone else on here with a waitlist so I wanted to get advice on what to do now.

I don't have advice but what concentration did you apply for?

I applied for Health Promotion and Communication and also mentioned the Chronic Disease Epidemiology concentration in my PS
Wait that’s crazy how they have a waitlist what! I’m sorry to hear that. I just got an email today from them saying my application is going in for review and they will release decisions in 5-6 weeks. Seems like some other people got the same email. I submitted my app mid December for the MPH in Community Assessment, Design, Implementation, and Evaluation.

Perhaps you should post your stats/experiences/etc so people can give you advice.

To be honest, I'm surprised that you'd be waitlisted for BU. Your stats seem great with extensive experiences!

Thanks.

Please check out and perhaps try to complete some free CE courses from the CDC relating to the concentration of your interest. After you finish each CE, email the results directedly to the Health Promotion department at BU as your updated activities. You can continue doing the CEs and keep the department informed of your newly acquired knowledge in the field to increase your chance of being admitted. The key is to show them your interest/your passion in the field. One of the ways to do it at this point is getting CE trainings via the CDC. But be sure to keep the department informed.

Best wishes.

I wish you the best of luck.

I graduated in May in the middle of the COVID-19 chaos and I've had trouble getting relevant experience in the field since then. I'm somewhat worried that I'll be hurt by this, but we shall see!
Accepted to Boston for Health Policy with 35% tuition!!! I haven’t stopped shaking for thirty minutes, WOW!!!

Congrats to all the folks getting into BU (happy to see the 5-6 week timeline might've been a hefty buffer but unnecessary?!). I am about to be that person... I applied to the Health Policy & Law program late September, confirmed they had it sometime in October after the supplemental app, "routed and complete" email on 1/15/2021 indicating 5-6 week turnaround. Should I be concerned? I was admitted to BU Law recently so really keeping my fingers crossed!!
i got my routed email on 1/12 if that helps? maybe you'll be in the next round

I would write an email to the department to inquire about your status. Also, dont forget to tell them that you got into law school at BU and wish to pursue Health Policy & Law program there as well.

If it makes you feel better, I submitted my app back in October and I didn't get the confirmation until 10 minutes after I emailed them asking where my application was in the review process (1/21). I would recommend emailing them so that you make sure you receive one!

Quick question for y'all, what is your purpose for undertaking a MPH, what main things do you expect to learn during a MPH?

Hi and thanks! My application was received on 12/17 and was marked as complete/forwarded for review on 1/8. If you decide to shoot them an email, the Assistant Director of Admissions, Victoria Durst, was extremely helpful (she guided me through an addendum I attached to my app) and responded to my questions in 1-3 days.

I wanted to be an epidemiologist since I was 14 years old and in looking up how to become one I came to the conclusion that I would need an MPH in epidemiology. 10 years later and my chance is here. I wanted to do infectious disease because it seemed cool and more 'scientific' but as I grew up and learned more I realized that chronic disease is the future.
I create a goal and I try to achieve it and the MPH is just a needed step to reach my dream career. Of course the schooling will bring about the courses needed to perform well in the field.

Thank you!! I'm an international applicant (not sure if that matters)

3.51 cGPA (SOPHAS GPA was a bit higher but I can't recall what it was), no GRE, I did a summer internship at our provincial government's disability support programme, was an RA at a major teaching + research hospital's division of neurosurgery (8 months), currently am an RA at my university's health policy institute (~7 months thus far), organized a panel event on immigrant mental health, and am also completing a senior thesis on domestic violence

Also been involved in a bunch of other extracurriculars on campus throughout the years but they're less directly relevant to public health (won a national award as a student journalist and am a multi-award winning competitive public speaker)

Hope that helps!

congratulations to everyone who got acceptances!! to those who applied to columbia and just heard back today, when did you submit your apps and when did you get the email saying they were ready for review? i submitted my app to sms mph on 11/24 then got an email on 12/7 saying it was under review and still haven't heard back 🙁 getting anxious haha
