This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just found out I got into penn!! Also do they interview for every MPH program (I applied to generalist) bc i straight up just got accepted without one which im surprised about, I saw a bunch of posts about interviews?? For reference- My app was received 1/15!
I'm interviewing in two weeks!! What was the interview like?

Anyone here applied to LLU MPH epidemiology? I just got an admission offer with a 2-week deadline for accepting the offer. I am not sure how to proceed with asking for an extension of the deadline. Anyone here in the same situation?
Still waiting to hear from other colleges...

Congratulations! I was also accepted today! Did your email contain financial aid or scholarship info.? I already jumped the gun and emailed them my inquiry but am so curious lol

Wow congrats! I'm interviewing with them in two weeks, did you interview?
Hi, congrats on the invite! Yes, I interviewed with them. I was asked to elaborate on what public health means to me, what I hoped to do with an MPH, the skills I want to learn, and why UPenn's program specifically. You can also ask them questions at the end of the interview. Entire interview time was 25 minutes for me.

Good luck!

Having gone this far into the application cycle, at this point, many of us only have 1 or 2 programs left to receive an admission decision from. In the meantime, do you folks have any advice for future applicants so they can be successful applicants to mph programs?

It is my hope that future mph applicants will be as successful, if not more so, than I/we 🤗

This is my advice for future mph applicants. Others, please share your inputs if you can. Thanks.

Looking at the profiles of admitted students, we clearly see that, in many cases, gpa is not the only decisive factor for admissions. I believe what adcoms look for in an mph application is the passion/interest in the field of public health. The passion/interest is demonstrated in the public health related courses that you take and the experiences that you have. As for the public health courses, dont forget that there are many, many free CE courses offered by the CDC that you can take to certify your knowledge in the field. The main point is to have a clear, focused interest in the field.

After you build your resume with some relevant public health knowledge and experiences, you should definitely try to get in touch with the public health department at several mph programs of your interest to have a private meeting with the director. Email your resume, personal statement, and all your transcripts to the directors prior to your meeting so they can recommend you on how to improve your profiles. Do as they recommend. Follow up with them by scheduling more private meetings. Do as they recommend and follow up again until you are admitted into the programs of your choice.

I blieve in working hard. I also believe in working smart. Show the programs that you are genuinely interested in the field. You will get the results that you want. Often times, as soon as your app is received, you almost immediately get your acceptances. On many occasions, they let you know that you are in before the admissions cycle begins so you will not have to deal with all the application anxiety.

I hope that everyone will achieve his/her dream career early on in life. Best wishes. You got this.

Question, for the people admitted and to University of Minnesota have you heard anything financial aid/Scholarship wise?

I’m sorry 😞 but their loss!!! What program did you apply too?
Thanks! I applied to their Community Health Sciences program. I guess that’s why the referred me to the other program. Lol. But it’s more than twice the cost!

Bummer. Sorry about that. If you don't mind me asking, when did you apply? I applied to CHS 12/1, sent for review 12/10 and haven't heard a peep. Thanks!

I applied 12/14 and it was sent for review 12/16.

I only found out because I asked the student affairs officer if I would be considered for both programs or just one and she said that they already reviewed my app and weren’t offering me admittance, so that’s why they were referring me to the other program. 😅😅 I hope you hear back soon! Good luck!!!

Nope, no financial aid info yet!Haha the only place I’ve heard from about that so far is Drexel....

I'm interviewing in two weeks!! What was the interview like?
I didn’t even get contacted for an interview LOL my app went under review 1/15 and I found out I was fully accepted today!! That’s why I wasn’t sure if they interview for every program or if it varies?

I applied generalist too, but haven't heard anything! My app was received 1/20...I hope I don't have to interview lol...
You prob won’t! I was dreading having to interview so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I was accepted today!

For anyone who was accepted to UCSD, did your acceptance mention scholarships/any type of aid?

Yes!!! It's actually my first choice now. I initially applied epi thinking it would be a good fit, but with my background in economics I'm much happier with this outcome!
I was political science 😀 HPM sounds like it would be a good fit for you given your major. There's going to be more policy and advocacy involved. From what I understand of Epi, you would have been more in the trenches with the science and data analysis.

Believe me, I'm more than happy to be working with data analysis, but I'm interested in an end result of becoming a health economist, so this should be much better suited to me!

hi where did you hear this? I dont remember seeing it in my acceptance letter
It was on the admitted students portal link they sent in the second email after the acceptance email. Basically just a site with admissions information but theres a section about financial aid

I applied generalist track too and interviewed! Not sure why some interview and some don’t. They probably really liked you guys already and didn’t need an interview to convince them otherwise

I couldn’t tell ya!! I had no idea that was a thing haha. Congratulations on your acceptance as well!! 🙂

I can't respond to a general timeline, but this is my timeline and I applied to the Health Equity program. I submitted my app on 11/17, went to review on 12/7, and received an email on 12/26 stating that the admissions committee made a recommendation and the graduate school is reviewing the recommendation and I should receive a decision within the next 1-2 weeks (tomorrow will be 2 weeks).
I applied Health Equity too! Fingers crossed we actually hear back tomorrow! Been waiting and waiting!

Did anyone who got the BU admission apply to the executive mph program? I’m only waiting to hear from BU, UW, and Berkeley. I’m really wanting to male a decision soon!

Does anyone know if the 4/15 decision deadline for most MPH programs means that you need to pay the deposit by the date, but you can still choose not to attend after that date, by just giving up the deposit? Or does paying the deposit mean you've officially committed and you have to go?

I've applied to mostly MPH programs, but I do have one MS program, which I won't hear back until end of May potentially...Help appreciated!

Yes, you have to commit and send in your deposit by the 4/15 date to reserve your spot in the program. I'm assuming that you'll go with the MS program if you get in? If so, just reserve you spot in the MPH program by the 15th if the MS program doesn't send its decision before then. That way you have something to fall back on.

Ah I see. So I am assuming that paying the deposit is non-binding? Or do you think it depends on the school...I'm just not sure if there's any penalty for paying the deposit but not committing eventually...And yes, the MS program at Stanford is indeed my reach/first choice.

Thanks for the advice!! Good luck with everything!!

The deposit is non refundable regardless. You could techniquely commit to one school and then decide to go to another. However that probably looks really bad on you.

I'm curious if anyone is applying to Stanford's MS in epidemiology and clinical research? Their admissions timeline is very late compared to other MPH programs...Seems like I would have to make my final decision for other MPH programs (by 4/15 for most schools) before hearing back from them.

Does anyone know that paying the deposit by 4/15 means an irreversible decision to commit to the school?
Hi!! I am also considering applying to this! Feel free to PM me!
