nope there's no portal. the decision is sent through email. is NYU your top choice?
its up there for sure! I'm debating doing a dual and i've gotten into the other nyu program ive applied for, so if I get into global health i can combine. biggest thing holding me back is $$$!!! do you think you'll go to nyu?

i committed to NYU!. Im probably going to join Army ROTC. They have scholarships for grad student. I know NYC is soooooo expensive.

for those with acceptances to UMich’s HBHE MPH, how long was the response time for a decision?🙂 i decided to apply to a few extra departments at UofM because it was the only in state school i applied to!
I got an email from HBHE that they are just now getting to apps from the beginning of December. I applied 12/1. No decision yet.

Like many others, I keep checking the Harvard portal at random hours and intervals. This is what just happened on mine. Could it mean that they are updating the portal for tomorrow??? 😱

Is anyone else having this issue?

Mine just says, "Your Harvard Chan decision letter is not yet available. Please check back at a later time." When you reload the page does it go back to normal?

Logged out and logged back in and it worked fine, back to the "not yet available" message. So much for getting excited 🙄 At least I am relieved.

Full time? I intend on working part time at least but that will probably barely get me enough to pay for living expenses 😭
if i end up in dc im gonna try my hardest to get a full time job - which kinda sucks bc if they gave money my plan was to intern or work part time at the school but i got 0 moneys so ):

How are you guys planning to pay for school if anyone doesn’t mind answering? Mostly loans?

The thought of going $60k-$70k in debt is just a tough pill to swallow
I can cover 1 semester fully with my remaining GI Bill. Im the process of joining Army ROTC when I start at NYU in the fall. They have some scholarships that can pay full tuition for graduate school in exchange for a service commitment. Other than that, loans lol. Just gotta be smart and only borrow accordingly.

Working part-time is an absolute must especially in NYC. We will all be ok and figure it out.

Private loans + working! I also am going to apply to some outside scholarships, my advisor for my minor helped me find a bunch I qualify for. I used discover student loans for undergrad, they have a lot of incentives like good grade checks every semester & 2% back on your loan after you graduate. Both helped me pay for books + graduation incentive is gonna allow me to pay back at least $1,000 on my loan after graduation. While loans aren’t the most ideal, it’s the harsh reality for most of us🙂

Another option is finding an Army ROTC program where you’re applying to. The Army offers full rides for exchange for committing to serve for 4 years. I plan on applying to HPSP for Medical School when I apply in the future. Definitely a commitment, but worth the sacrifice if it means no debt!

Gonna suck it up unfortunately and try to save right now and future. Funny though during Columbia's financial aid talk, they outlined "wants, needs, and haves" implying we will definitely be in debt LOL.

Currently taking a financial management class for this exact reason haha!

Also gonna look into some low interest loans and such

Yeah I guess we just gotta do what we gotta do! It’s all just getting more real now that I’ve actually gotten acceptances, which is both exciting and anxiety-inducing!

Guysss, someone calm my anxiety please. I got the email to schedule my interview for Columbia, BUT I never received the proceeding email that tells you that you qualified for an interview and someone would be in touch. Should I be worried that this was a mistake? Ah I was just letting myself think Columbia was a possibility again. I'm sure it would be gauche to ask my interviewer if I was actually supposed to be interviewed.. pero like they've already had a mistake made this cycle 😭

Has anyone else had an interviewer reach out to them without the proceeding email?

I have will have managed to save up $50k for grad school. If student debt is wiped then I will have $60k. This will provide a nice cushion for me to have but I will definitely be sad to see 7 years of saving gone for 1-2 year of tuition.

Wow that’s amazing! Good for you for saving all that; I wish I could say the same! I barely make ends meet as it is 😂 I will just hope that Biden cancels a large chunk of debt lol

Selfish reason but I hope it gets canceled for $50k and after we all start in fall. 1st semester free and rids of my undergrad debt too.

Was initially planning on loans, hopefully getting a TA/GSI position, and by commuting instead of living in the bay area. However, I got insanely lucky last month and secured enough money for tuition. Unfortunately risking your life savings on GameStop only works once 🥴

Been working full time for 1.5 years so I have some money saved. I want to try my absolute best to not have to take out any more loans since I'm still paying off my undergrad ones (pls come through Biden!!!). But I also plan to keep working through school. I'm still trying to decide whether I will do part-time or full-time. Idk what the workload will be like. GW (if that's where I end up going) says their program is flexible for people who work full-time but I have to be taking at least 9 credits each semester for my scholarship so idk lol. If any current GW students can advise me on this, that would be very helpful!!

Anyone applied to the Yale accelerated mph and got the portal/personalized website? I submitted my application on 12/15, complete on 1/21 and I never received the portal...

How was your interview? What kinds of questions did they ask?

I saw you applied for MHA for Hopkins, but MPH HPM for Columbia, is there any reason why not MHA for Columbia (just curious lol)?
Sorry for the confusion, I applied for the MHA program at Columbia as well! Columbia's MHA program falls under their HPM department though, so I believe the interview process is similar with their MPH HPM. My interview consisted of a few basic questions (why Mailman, why HPM, and what I want to get out of my experience at Mailman HPM if admitted). The rest of the interview was just me asking the interviewer questions. It was very laidback!

hi! congrats! can i ask which program and when you received the notification + ur timeline? i feel berk is only releasing at night and like one candidate at a time lmao???
Thank you! I applied to the health and social behavior mph program. My app was verified on 11/30 and i got the notification to check my portal at 10:30 tonight haha. Yeah I was surprised I thought berkeley would be the last place i heard from but it was the first

The best way I can justify it for myself is that I managed to pay undergrad out of pocket and all the PhD programs I'm looking at are funded. If I get nothing in aid and have to take out 120k in total loans, I feel like I'm still less price sensitive. This is also not to mention my top ranked school is miles ahead of my second choice in terms of how well it fits my needs, and it will cost me roughly the same. Taking both of these, it's a lot easier to justify the cost of so much debt.

I should also note that because my undergrad is in economic policy and analysis, I'm all but required to get a grad degree if I don't want to work a sales job (I tried, I hated it).

Hi! Is the portal accessible once you're accepted? Not sure how to get to it. I haven't heard any from them since my app was ready for review (11/30). I applied to the same program, I'm nervous now. 😵

Most likely loans. I have some money saved but it isn't enough to hold myself afloat. Definitely praying for scholarships and TA/Assistantships my second semester and second year. I think I just got in-state tuition at Umn( not too sure some weird thing in my portal can't be too sure so I emailed will keep y'all posted if it's what I hope it is.) if it is in-state tuition it just saved me ~15k. Praying for ridiculously large sums of scholarships for us all!

Loans unless i get merit based scholarships. I’m looking at $90k for Emory but it is what it isss🤷🏾‍♀️😂

Like all of us I'm really hoping to get some scholarships. I've got a bit of savings to use and combined with my Americorps educational award I've got enough to maybe almost cover a year of rent and utilities in nyc (living with roommates). I'm planning on also working at least part time to try and cover the rest of the basic living expenses, but the bulk of tuition is definitely going to need to be loans. I'm hoping to keep it under 40k ideally but we'll see. I also plan on working in the nonprofit sector so the plan is to just be on one of the income based repayment plans and hope the government just forgives my loans in 10 years 🤣

@roubao

I applied to APMPH. Check the email from Yale titled - "Yale School of Public Health Application", the contents of the email has the link (its not a hyperlink). Or else try this link - go.publichealth.yale.edu/YourFullName

Thank you! Found it! But I did not see the status of my application in the portal. So they'll just email you to inform the decision?

Same, that was nerve wracking. I think I used up my luck for the year, so I'm gonna stay away from the stock market until school is done lol

This goes without saying, but DO NOT follow my example and put all your money into a failing company because of memes. I was desperate at the time due to losing my job and I may or may not have a gambling addiction.

Speaking of which, what're y'all's terrible/laughable reason for choosing a school? I'll go first.

Emory vs. Columbia vs. BU
- i refuse to drive (as mentioned above)
- and i want cute hallmark vibes snow but not like rudolph reindeer burning nose vibe snow

can u tell i'm from california?
Columbia is currently moving down on my list because I found out their MPH grads don’t get a hood for graduation, just plain old cap and gown 😂 For some reason I’m attached to having a hood when I graduate with a masters

I'm from California too, I want to try living in the snow for 2 years to see if I can put up with it long term. I have a feeling I'll hate it lol but it's worth a try!

As for a silly reason, Columbia became much less appealing to me when I found out Mailman is 5 miles from the main Columbia campus. Maybe it's because I missed out on a lot of my undergrad experience but I really want to be able to hang out on campus during grad school!

yes hahahah refer to my comment above but i said that you take classes in a very centralized building instead of all over the place!!

it's not my top choice, still waiting on Columbia to make a decision :/
