MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Accepted to UMich HBHE! I haven’t received an email yet, but I randomly checked my portal and my decision was there😭😭.

Congrats.

There are not too many Umich acceptances. Does anyone know why?

Just got an email that I got a full tuition scholarship to Emory!! I have been going through this weird cycle for the last hour of crying, wrangling unbelievable imposter syndrome, feeling overwhelmingly grateful, and also trying to figure out what to do since my heart is already set on Yale. On one hand it's almost irresponsible to take out the extra loans for Yale. On the other, I think I would be happier there overall and want to end up in the area for the rest of my life. Either way, I need to decide within a week so someone else can get the aid offer I have from either Emory or Yale ASAP. If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom, I would really appreciate hearing them. Feel free to PM me or respond! ...Please help 😅
Congratulations! This is absolutely amazing and so well-deserved. I hope you're celebrating to the extent that COVID allows!

Yale is of course, an amazing school and you did mention wanting to find work in that area eventually which is a big factor. But please take a moment to calculate the cost of your degree for both Yale and Emory in as much detail as possible. Include the cost of food, transportation in the city, rent, perhaps travel to and from home if you don't live in-state for either school, etc. Map out your next two years and be realistic with yourself about whether it's affordable, and how quickly you'd be able to repay loans for Yale once you start working. People are always surprised at how debilitating loans can be. Money is never a "problem for later".

You have an extremely exciting career ahead of you - don't let money bog you down. It WILL affect your career and general life choices down the line. Having full-ride gives you more freedom.

Emory is one of the best public health schools in the world, and it's extremely well-connected. You'll have access to a wonderful network of opportunities.

However, at the end of the day weigh your pros and cons using whatever metric makes the most sense to you. Just remember that you will be successful anywhere. Best of luck!

Does anyone know the approximate turnaround time to hear back from NYU Epi?? Albeit I applied pretty late (2/1). But just curious!

Has anyone received a scholarship from Emory who applied to the BSHE concentration?

I am also choosing between Emory and Yale and maybe hopkins at this point! Its true that taking on debt to go to a Yale will affect your life choices down the road. However on the flip side (and this could be an argument for either) the school you choose go to will also have a massive impact on the trajectory of your life, and it’s okay to take on debt as long as the risk is measured and you have a plan! At the end of the day, some people buy cars that are more expensive than the schools we’re thinking about going to, and is there really any better investment than your education? Either school will open so many doors for you, it’s really just a question of which path you see as helping you create the life and career path that you (and only you!) want to build. Emory and Yale are super different (both incredible schools). in different parts of the country, and it’s kind of a personal identity thing to decide what makes the most sense for your life - nobody can figure that part out except for you. Congratulations and good luck ☺️

How I'm gonna end up receiving my Emory decision....

congrats everyone on the scholarships!

gwu says they’ll do a financial appeal but want my other letters so i hope these other schools will pull through already
Did you already receive a Financial Aid package for GWU? I was accepted, but haven't received my FinAid yet

Do you think they are going to come out today? Also, is there anywhere to find out when its been "reviewed" or anything like that like I am reading that other schools portals are?

Good luck!
I don't think Harvard would come out today, especially when they're probably also seeing a surge in applications. Next Thursday would be great, but even then I'm not 100% betting on it.

Has anyone applied to the executive MPH programs for UW and Berkeley. I'm just noticing that decisions could be sent out in May and I'm wondering if this is actually what happens. I think this take me out of considering them as I have other schools that need a decision by mid-April.

Not as popular... but has anyone heard from UC Davis? Saw on gradcafe someone got accepted yesterday and haven't heard anything. ahhhhhhhhh lol congrats to everyone else though🙂

Would going to a private school be cheaper than going to an out-of-state public school? Is there an option to gain residency in the public school after your first year in MPH, so you get in-state tuition?

Yes possible. UIUC told me that my scholarship would change if I declared myself in-state for my 2nd year so plan ahead if given scholarships.

I’m still out here waiting with u! I applied for MS Epi, under review 1/27 and nothing back yet 🥲

Accepted to NYU (HPM) but no scholarship :/
Is it a bad idea to reach out about what their criteria is for merit scholarships? I'm just bummed bc I have a 3.9 GPA and what I thought was quality experience (2 years research, multiple TA positions, abroad work, and working to become a registered dietitian rn). I don't want to sound ungrateful but I thought I'd have somewhat of a chance getting a scholarship here and now I feel like I don't have much of a chance to get one anywhere else.
