MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was told by another admissions director to avoid emailing any admissions offices as much as possible because they often get over a thousand emails a week... Plus this post. Makes me nervous to email :/
LOL I just emailed. If it affects how they view me then I'm not sure what to say. I think it's reasonable if I paid a processing fee and spent my time on the application to ask for an update. I was not really concerned but a school I was accepted to said I need to give them my denial or acceptance by early April and I want to ensure I have an ample amount of time to make that decision since I will likely be moving to a completely different state in the next 6 months.

Wait literally same! And it helped because I'm most likely moving across the country from my significant other LOL
Me too! My SO will be staying in CA lol. Not going to insert any spoilers for people who want to watch it (10/10 highly recommend), but let's just say there were moments where I envisioned myself as Lara Jean in her predicament

Good point! Let me know what they say 🙂

yes will do 😀 I don't wanna come off as impatient to them but I have lived in the same small suburb in California for 21 years so to move to snowstorm central will definitely be a big decision hehe. i absolutely want to though </3

Frantically refreshing my inbox 😳

Dont know about other programs, but at Yale, your app might be burried in piles of app this year. If you dont reach out, there is a chance that your app will be buried so deeply that it might be too late by the time for admissions decision.

The director at Yale specifically told my friends to reach out if they have waited too long.

Good point... I will email then! Thanks for the advice.

I think I will email too!

Also, has anyone applied to JHU's MSPH program in Health, Behavior, and Society? How long did it take for you to hear back?

Hey! I applied to JHU on January 5th and heard back on the 28th! This was for the MSPH Health Education and Health Communication specialization!

I hope this helps! Don't lose hope!

just curious but did anyone ever receive Emory's gift (mentioned in the acceptance letter)? Did they say they would mail it out?
Ooo, great reminder. I haven't gotten anything yet and they didn't mention when they were mailing it out or when to expect it...

Not exactly an MPH but similar, I have been accepted to Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Anyone know about it ?
Ah, an MSc...it's the "equivalent" of an MPH here. I haven't heard of Liverpool, but London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is known worldwide for their research and prestige. Why not apply there? In terms of name recognition, it depends on what you want to do after you graduate. If you want to work outside of the UK, I would just make sure to find an accredited program (for the US it's CEPH) if applicable. You're paying money for a program, so you want to make sure it's recognized as one that meets certain standards by potential employers. Something else you can do to evaluate the program is look at their alumni page if they have one and see if they name the workplaces or countries alumni go after graduation.

Received this from YSPH admissions:
"Thanks for reaching out. We are working through the process of reviewing applications to make admissions decisions as quickly as possible. We unfortunately do not have a more defined timeline at this point and will be in touch as soon as we can with any updates."

Kind of a bummer because I saw some other people got more specific estimates but I guess I will just keep waiting and hoping! Good luck to everyone 🙂

Yale sent back a generic reply.

im crying lol they sent me the same one hahhahaha

Anyone have a good contact to email at Hopkins (in the admissions department)? I have been under review for 2+ months and would love an actual person to reply instead of getting a generic email.

Did you email the admissions office?
Yes, just the admissions office. Afraid to email the director :/ Plus my application was just marked complete on 1/21 and most people seem to be waiting 4-5 weeks so it doesn't seem too late yet. I might email again if I don't hear back next week.

GWU health policy folks: did you guys get accepted without an interview? Someone just reached out to me to get to know me (10 min convo)...wondering if this is a make or break conversation, like if they're on the fence about rejecting me

I was accepted without an interview. Maybe they are considering you for a scholarship?

[email protected]

I have been emailing the admission officers there^ and from my experience, they've been very helpful and responsive! (They helped me add updated resumes (2x) and notes to my admission file lol)

I emailed
"Becca Melnick
Associate Director of Admissions, Yale School of Public Health ."

Is there a better person to email?

You made me pause for a second when I read the response you got back from Yale signed by Becca. I was wondering how in the world an email of Mary could be signed by Becca.

Liverpool is also quite reputable, not up there with LSHTM but its great!

Rejected by UWashington for Health Services and Policy! Just in case people were looking for when their decisions were coming out. I'm more of an East Coast than a West Coast person anyway 😉 Congrats to anyone who was recently admitted!

When asking about appeals, do we have to tell them/will they ask about the COA the other school would be or just the amount of funding we received? I think I'm between Emory and JHU, and JHU is significantly more than Emory even with the MTS scholarship due to the MCH fellowship that I received. But I was wondering if I could tell Emory that I received the MTS from JHU and if that would possibly increase my funding and vice versa for JHU. Or even use the 25% I received from BU.

Did anyone hear from Columbia financial aid today? I was accepted 1/20 and I am anxiously waiting.

@Anya230

If you are appealing for a merit-based funding, it usually and most often does not include COA into consideration, and they will not ask you. Always argue on the merit of what you bring to the table, and the fact that JHU and BU have offered you so much, but you would like to absolutely be part of the Emory community. Most likely they will ask you for some proof of the scholarship from JHU/BU (I've seen that happen in b-school), rather than taking your word.

Ask for the stars and they might give you the moon.

Got put on waitlist by UC Davis. This makes deciding easier lol
sorry to hear that! but you got into really great schools nonetheless 😉 did they notify you via email or did you just check your portal?
