MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
was told they wont consider the change until april 19th (which i understand why), just wish they had told me that they won't automatically review when i had first asked bc it implied they would
Were you told this by one of your departments (PopFam or HPM) or was this from the Admissions Office? Asking because I will likely try to switch from Epi to Biostats.

Does anyone have any advice for the Dartmouth interview? Not able to find any information about how to prepare for it online

I was told by admissions - it doesn't seem like the departments are aware of the timelines since i had calls with both and it was never mentioned. I emailed back asking for an extension to the decision deadline at columbia and gw now so we shall see

Trying to compare UW (niche program, community oriented, capstone, access to the population I want to study) to Brown (generalist, thesis).

Will be applying to clinical psych programs after mph. Need the best research experience possible.
i went to UW for undergrad in public health and can confirm the research here is top tier!! their is a ton of opportunities to work in a lab and i actually work in a lab at UW Med right now where 2 of my coworkers are leaving to get their PhD in clinical psych! feel free to DM me if you have any questions🙂

I saw someone had linked BU's Financial Aid Application earlier on in this thread. Are we supposed to fill this out even if we haven't gotten an acceptance from BU yet? If so, how do I find out what my BU ID number is? I don't think I ever received one...
I emailed them asking about that too- they told me not to fill it out until I receive an acceptance letter... well I’m WAITING lol

It’s extremely casual. I’d say don’t over prepare and just be conversational. I was accepted the day after my interview on January 8. Just think about what you might say about your interests, current life, what you hope to get out of grad school, and what your plans might be/what you hope to learn! PM me if you have questions!

Anyone heard anything about financial aid for tufts? I emailed them last week asking to make sure they had my ssn on file and my FAFSA.. and then they told me they didn’t have my ssn?! But I realized you can update it on the applicant portal. So I’d recommend double checking if you are waiting on financial aid! I’m really torn between tufts and Columbia and the possibility of scholarship/financial aid for either of them would help my decision a good amount lol

Got accepted to UPenn! If anyone has any insight on the program, pls let me know. I know that while it's an Ivy, it isn't ranked as high as some of the other schools I've been looking into and I'm wondering why that is
Hi, congratulations on your acceptance! I am also considering UPenn's MPH program and looked everywhere for more info--unfortunately, there isn't much available on the internet! This is what I've gathered from old SDN/Reddit threads, their website, and from the interview.

Like another poster commented, the program is on the newer side but is CEPH accredited. The program is housed in their School of Medicine instead of having a separate school of public health (SPH). Most will say that it's better to go to a place with an SPH and that not having an SPH is a weakness. Despite this, I found it very interesting that UPenn actually considers their lack of an SPH a strength. They view it as a means to have their students get a well-rounded public health education in a field that is very much interdisciplinary. As an MPH student, you're able to take classes from their other professional schools (medicine, business, etc.) They also tout a small student-to-faculty ratio of 5:1, where last year's cohort was 64 people. It seems many MPH students find a job affiliated with the university (employees get a tuition benefit) and apply to assistantships to afford the program. The curriculum is flexible and will allow for students to drop part-time or go back to full-time as needed.

Also, a note about merit aid: if they didn't mention anything in the acceptance email, then none was granted. Adding this because I was sad when I learned I got no monies from UPenn. 🙁

My name on the Columbia portal has been gone for the past 3 hours lol. so suspenseful!!
Sorry but what did you mean by your name being gone from the portal?! I'm so confused cause I know people have said their names have been removed since last night!

no u just ask and submit a new statement
Sorry for all the questions, but was it like a whole new 500 word statement? Did you basically repurpose your original statement while changing the specifics? Or is it just something like a short paragraph demonstrating your interest?

the 500 word one - i repurposed and changed a few paragraphs.

Not sure if there's a direct correlation, but rumour has it that you will receive your decisions a short while after your name is removed from the portal!

I may, thank you!

wondering this too!
I’ve heard from some people that they didn’t get any info before April 15 and had to decide assuming they’d pay full price. I would hate to do that so I’m considering reaching out in a few weeks (maybe 2-3 considering we have what, 6 weeks to go?) to see if I can get any info.

Gotcha. Also best wishes! I hope you get in 🙂

Heart skipped a beat when my Columbia portal updated and saw more information listed under the Admit Checklist, but it's not financial aid information. 😆
Same here!! I got so excited then so upset it was just stuff from the Office of Education haha

Anyone accepted to Columbia before 2/1 still waiting for financial aid and/or scholarships?
Yeah I was accepted on 1/21 and still haven't heard anything. Do you think they will send an email or we will just have to check that NetPortal site?? I checked the site earlier today and under the "awards" section, it is just blank. I am praying that that just means nothing has been uploaded yet...

I got an email from the financial aid office with my package and estimated costs when it was ready! It was also uploaded to the NetPortal site once ready. I was accepted 1/26, so I think they're just going through the stack of admitted students and sending them out as they're done.

Ok good to know thanks! Can I ask when you received that email?

Hi! I’ve been waiting to hear from them for a while. When did you apply?
I applied back in November 2020. I actually emailed the admission this morning to ask about my app (btw i live in SoCal) and I received the decision around 4:30pm PST.

me 🙋‍♀️ applied 12/1, verified 12/9. Haven't heard a peep.
Apologies, I literally got an email a few hours after I posted that to check my portal. Accepted to JHU full time MPH!
Best of luck to everyone out there still waiting to hear back!! Hopefully your situation can be like mine where if you just post about it enough and complain how you haven't heard anything, the admissions gods will see and grant you a decision later that day. 😅 Fingers crossed for you!
