MPH / MSPH 2022: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got a interview from Dartmouth! Does anyone know what to expect? Is it from an alum or from admissions and would it be the standard interview questions? Why Dartmouth, Why MPH, what do you bring etc?
Don't worry too much about the interview. It is going to be an alum and their questions are going to be centered mostly around why MPH. I found some of the questions wanting you to be very detailed about where exactly would you want to apply for your degree and what were the driving factors/motivations behind it. It will take about 30 minutes in total. Make sure you have a clear pattern of thought that you could talk about. Why Dartmouth questions will also be there!

Does anyone have any insight on what the informal interviews for columbia hpm are like?
Mine was pretty casual, just a current HPM student asking general questions about why health policy, what do you see yourself doing, etc. They also asked if there was anything specific you wanted to highlight for the admissions committee. Good luck with your interview!

Oh awesome thanks so much!

just wondering if anyone has gotten an interview for columbia's MPH in population and family health? thanks

Would you mind sharing a bit of your background? I applied the course too but I didn’t get an interview so I assume my application is unsuccessful
No honestly I think they are just going through apps and with the holidays things I'm sure are just drawn out, so there is still plenty of time! I have a BS in psych/neuro from a state school with undergraduate research assistantship experience, a research internship that ended with a publication and full time research experience at a hospital (will be 2 years for Fall 2022).

hey y'all! what are the chances that a school would release my admissions decision/scholarship information early if I ask them? I have to accept or decline one of my offers by jan 31, which is before i'd hear from some schools about admissions and way before i'd hear about money
hey! I hate to say this but I doubt that anyone is going to release admission decisions early. I do know a lot of offices were closed for the holidays so we hopefully will start hearing more in the next few weeks. If you don't happen to hear from them soon, then I would recommend reaching out to the program you have to make a decision on and ask for an extension on your deadline. From what I have heard in the past, usually they are accommodating to granting extensions.

Hey all! Wish I had been around to answer questions during the initial application process. I matriculated into my MPH program in August 2020 and am now entering my last semester. If anyone has any questions please feel free to tag me or private message me!

Hello! Wondering if anyone has heard back on a decision from the University of Minnesota, specifically the Public Health Administration and Policy program? I know with the holidays there’s no reason to be worried yet but just curious!

Hello! I got an email from Yale for Kira assessment. Is it only for international applicants? What’s the significance of it? I couldn’t find any information related to it, so if someone can provide insight, that would be great.

What degree/program did you apply to?

Hi all! Has anyone heard from Johns Hopkins about funding?

I was accepted on December 19th but my acceptance letter did not include any information about scholarships or financial aid. The letter said, "You will receive more detailed information from us within a few business days," but the information I've received since then has not mentioned funding.

I know a lot of schools take several weeks/months to notify about funding, but just wanted to see if others have heard anything. Thanks!

Yes I believe it’s only for international applicants! I saw it in the Yale SOPHAS but it was blanked out for me and said I didn’t need to do it as I’m not international

Hi everyone! Congrats on making it through most of this process! 🥳 I'm a current first-year MPH student in SMS (certificate in Health & Human Rights) who just wrapped up the CORE and is happy to answer any questions about Columbia! I also did UMich's public health undergrad program, so I can offer insight into that school/Ann Arbor as well. Feel free to tag me or message me!

Has anyone heard back from Michigan? If so, did you get an email or did you check the application portal?

Hello! Has anyone heard from Yale (MPH Health Care Management concentration)?

Has anyone else who interviewed with Dartmouth heard back yet? I saw one person has heard back so far, but was curious if anyone else has.

Did anyone else apply to the Yale MS programs? They're via the GSAS application website (not SOPHAS) but still within YSPH. Would be curious to know anyone else's timelines.

I may be getting ahead of myself but does anyone know what the max loan amount a university could give to grad students?

First admissions decision! Rejected from Dartmouth pre-interview! 🙂
Hey!

I understand how disheartening it can be to receive a rejection. Just because you got rejected from one university does not mean that will be the case with other universities.

I understand that its easier for someone to say, but that has been the case for me with the universities I applied to.

Thank you for your compassion and support. I deeply appreciate it!

Fortunately, this didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. I’ll remain patient and still have a few more applications to submit, so this rejection will serve as a little motivation.

Here’s hoping for more favorable reviews elsewhere!
