HEY everyone who got accepted thus far ::::

1st of all: CONGRATS!!!!!

2nd: Could you let us know what time you were complete (month and day) so we can see if they are doing the whole rolling admissions thing and what month they are at right now.

Thanks ; and congrats! again....🙂

I was complete on 7/29/08 and accepted 9/3/08, but I also think it depends on where you app ranks.

AACOMAS was submitted in early June and forwarded to MSUCOM on 07/16/08. My packet was complete on 08/11/08 and I was offered a seat yesterday, 09/03/08.

Stats: 3.0 undergrad GPA, 3.5 graduate GPA with complete Masters Degree from Wayne Statel, MCAT 26. Outstanding LOR's and probably more clinical and extracurricular experience than most other applicants. They also knew me by name as this was my third time applying!!! The third time is a charm '-)

i am so happy for all of you - was msucom your first choice? this is driving me crazy!! i can't be complete until 9/8 because that's when my MCAT score will be released - I'm literally going to run it over to Fee hall - I want to get in so badly!!!!!

I feel you! I'm really nervous seeing these acceptances, because I was "complete" with my first MCAT scores 7/16 and second ones 8/25, so I am SO anxious! I want to go to this school more than I've ever wanted anything in my entire life!! Again, good luck everyone, and congrats to those who have been accepted!

Btw, does anyone know how often they go to committee to review applications?? Thanks!

I feel the same way..I can honestly say I will withdraw from every other school I applied to (11 schools including CHM and Wayne) if I am accepted to MSUCOM..I know this part of the year is crazy for everyone, especially the people who read this thread. I read the MSUCOM 07-08 thread from last cycle and they did the same thing: reviewed on Tuesdays, emails on Wednesdays around 1030-11am. Unfortunately I have class from 1020-1110 during which I will probably sit with my laptop vigorously hitting refresh on gmail haha. but to everyone else reading this: if you feel like you're going insane don't worry, you're not alone!! I know a girl who got in yesterday (3.9, not sure about mcat, good ECs, MSU undergrad, MI resident) and it has been driving me up the wall ever since. hopefully we will all get some good email next week/next few weeks!!

Thanks for all the info from those already accepted.... I really would love to go to MSU COM - I visited the campus and really really liked it a lot.... Everyone seemed really nice from the students to the faculty.
P.S. Anyone else here who is reapplying this year? (besides me?)

Hope we hear from them soon 🙂

I would just like to say that MSUCOM's secondary application is one of the most infuriating applications I have had to deal with all year.

To not accept committee letters and to have to mail in 2908 forms dating back to your High School days is seriously some of the biggest bull ever. Hopefully this is all worth it, as they've made me jump through 20 hoops and caused me some serious distress....all in just one day. Right now I am not even sure I should apply because now I need to go ask two people who have already written me letter of recommendation in April to write them again.

I have seven letters (5 PhDs, 1 MD, 1 DO) and I cannot use a single one. 😡

argh.

It was a very involved secondary, but if you really want to come here then buckle down. It is your future we're talking about.

I am just saying to have to go back and ask somebody to write you another one, right after I already did for my committee, well...just makes me look irresponsible. I am not saying I am lazy, but I hate to have to go through this LOR all over again, especially when I've already done it seven other times. I am sure those that wrote me letters are hardly excited about having to do it all over again, when they have 390853 other students.

In every one of my letters it says how long they've known me and the cover letter of the committee says that they recommend me X amount on the exact scale they have on MSUCOM's last page...this simply creates more work for everybody. Being difficult for the sake of being difficult is just frustrating. Why can't they just be like all the rest of the schools. It's not much to ask.

True, but consider the fact that they don't ask for an interview ... kind of a nice trade off...or it could be a bad thing depending how you look at it... so ummm never mind 🙂

Hey, don't worry! I was really fustrated with this process when I applied last year. I didn't want to bother the people who already wrote me letters of rec..but they were happy to do so! The best thing to do is just get it done - dwelling on it will make things worse. E-mail or call them today so it will be off your shoulders. Trust me, you'll feel so much better once this part of the application is over with! Good luck!

Yeah. I took care of it today. I got really lucky though...thanks for the support.

but MSUCOM does not have interviews? I've never heard that before?

Yeah they definitely do not do interviews unless they are unsure or need more information from something they read on your secondary. Most just get in without the interview. Those letters of recommendation are more definitely an issue because it takes people so long to write them. I have one in the mail to MSUCOM right now and I am still waiting for the other person to finish theirs. it is really frustrating because I know the earlier you get your stuff in the better. I am really hoping my other person will mail their letter of recommendation tomorrow so that I can maybe be complete by next Tuesday!! So stressful!

Not 100% sure when I was complete (I believe mid July), but Ive got a 3.8 and a 29.

Good luck to everyone currently applying. I'm a current 1st year and I want to second the opinion that the secondary may be tedious but it's worth doing well because it replaces the interview.

You don't necessarily have to ask the same people to write your MSU COM LOR that wrote your standardized LORs. I asked completely different people; people that knew me more personally. One was my grad school advisor, another a current work supervisor, and another was a supervisor of a volunteer experience.

I'm not on here much, but feel free to PM me. I went back and forth between COM and another school (MD) for a while before I made a decision and I'm really happy with my choice.

Do you mind sharing what made you finally go for DO ?

It wasn't so much that I chose DO over MD; I chose COM over the other school. I did debate about the pros and cons of going DO, but I decided that it didn't really matter to me either way. I really like the atmosphere at COM. The feeling I got when I visited the open house was amazing. It seemed like the faculty knew all of the students by name and most of the students were really excited about being at COM. I would have been happy attending the other school, but the sense of community was lacking and the students didn't seem as happy. Plus, one of the MD students spoke poorly about COM (in a really uninformed way) during my interview day, so that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Sounds like a really good reason to me. I always find it surprising how misinformed or ignorant people are about the osteopathic philosophy. Sad.

So, any more acceptances? ... or do we need to wait till Wednesday ...?

Minea I am reapplying this year as well. Good luck to you tomorrow! I don't think I will be complete yet my letters of recommendation were just mailed in last friday and saturday so I can't imagine they have put all of my stuff together by then. So I will have to wait atleast until next week 🙁 Ugh I hate the wait!!

Hey guys!

I got an email today that MSUCOM is going to put me on hold for fall 2008 grades, since I am currently taking biochem, orgo 2, orgo lab, physiology, a topics course in physiology on cancer, and physical chem....a lot of upper levels that are also pre-reqs!

Should I be excited by this? I mean, it's giving me a second chance sort of, to prove myself in spite of my horrible MCAT correct? How would you guys feel if this happened to you? What kind of grades are they going to be looking for?

I have a pretty tough semester and I could use any study tips anyone has to offer! I WANT THIS MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!! :luck:

Very rarely is someone given more motivation to get all A's in a semester. Log off and hit the books immediately!!! 😀

Oh my gosh that is great news!! Thanks so much for letting us know!

When I have that email sent from admissions to check the status of my application, my MCAT scores are listed from the most recent administration. I though MSU took the highest subsections though? Why wouldn't these be listed?

It took two cycles but I finally got the email this morning around 1115, I got accepted. Good luck to all those still waiting. PM if you have any questions.

I too got the email around 11:15 this morning. I'm so happy!

Received my invite today....hold in there everyone 🙂

Fresh off the press at MSUCOM...the Committee on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) endorsed the report of the site visit team and granted approval for the college to proceed with opening two expansion campuses; one at the Macomb University Center and the other at the Detroit Medical Center. Plans are to enroll 50 students at each site beginning Summer Semester of 2009 as part of the Class of 2013. 🙂

So who will get those spots and how?... and a side question:

When one gets an acceptance do other schools automatically find out that that student holds an acceptance?

Thanks :*

I am not sure in regards to how the spots at the other campuses will be filled, but I am pretty sure that other schools to not get automatically informed when you are accepted, you have to contact them on your own.

1) Are those two new campuses open to this cycle or the next cycle, anyone know?

2) How many students does MSUCOM accept on average every year?

THANKS in advancee..

Does anyone know how often MSUCOM updates the supplemental application status site? I keep checking mine, I sent it in 2 weeks ago, first letter was sent in last week, second letter on monday, and the page status page keeps saying that it was last updated on 8/15...

MSU is offering 300 seats this year, up from 200 last year. In this 300, 200 will remain @ the Lansing campus, and 50 will be in Detroit, 50 in Macomb. They sent out a mass email today (I believe) that to choose your site, you will rate them once you are notified of acceptance. The seat preferences will be filled based on who gets their deposits in first. You can be on a waitlist for a site if you don't get your top choice though. Also, the Detroit and Macomb campus are said to be more distance-learning. Labs will be in person w/ faculty, but some lectures will be streamed. Hope this helps.

In regards to status page, mine says it hasn't been updated since 7/9 but stuff has been updated since then. It seems to not change.

I had an appointment the other day with an advisor, they are very busy there and receive massive amounts of mail. Because of this, they sometimes do not have time to list things as updated, you just have to be patient with them.

Thank You rm2908 for this great information. Hopefully will get in to MSUCOM this year. Im waiting on my stupid MCAT scores now.. I wish you the very :luck: very best on those interviews, and once you get in, tell your advisor at school, NOW wHATTtttttttttt , (at that point she will be speechless) and then say EXACTLYYYYYYYY, and walk away...Hopefully that helps.🙂. your stats are competitive, and i hate it when advisors try to give intelligent students no hope..

Congrats to all of you receiving acceptances and to those of you still in the process hang in there!!! Speeter, Ashbrant & I are all in the same class and it is because of wonderful people like them that I am so happy to be at MSUCOM!!! We have an amazing class and I hope the same for all of you! If you have any questions or want info about anything MSUCOM, don't hesitate to use us as a resource. If we don't know the answer right away, just hang in there because we will get the answer for you. If you are deciding between an MD program and a DO program take confidence in knowing that you are not alone, many of us at COM are students that actually elected to go DO over MD!! Welcome Class of 2013 ~ looking forward to seeing you around Fee Hall!

Could anyone tell me how long it took for you to get their secondary? ACOMAS sent out my primary on September 4th and I still haven't heard from them.

Thanks!

I think I received the secondary after about a month of my primary being released.

I just dropped my secondary off today! Wish me luck.

Just checked my status I am finally complete as of 9/12 and I cannot take the anxiety. I will be sooooo excited if I get in this week I really really really want to go to MSUCOM I went there for undergrad and I have met a lot of people that go there for medical school and they are all really nice. I have nothing but good things to say about the school. Good luck to everybody this week! I hope we all get acceptance emails on Wednesday morning!

How often do they update their status page? I sent everything in 2 weeks ago, and it still says my stats haven't been updated since 9/4...

I just wanna know whether they got everything in alright.

Honestly I think it really varries. I paid my fee online and it took them only a few days to update that on the status page but then it took them two weeks to update that they got my secondary application I know because when I mailed it I had it tracked so I knew exactly when it got delivered. Then my letters of recommendation only took a few days to get updated in the system. So I have no idea what the deal is. Also I think when they update it in the system it takes overnight for it to register that it has been updated because I called them about my secondary because it took so long and the woman said she was just entering it it and I checked the status emails and it still had to been registered. I would give it a little while longer and then call, you need to know if it got lost in the mail or something. I know they are tryin to discourage us from calling them and asking about status but if it has been that long and you still haven't seen a change then I would think you have that right.

I have a 3.71 overall GPA, 3.60 science... Good ECs and great LORs. I scored poorly on my first MCAT and I am waiting on my new scores... I am assuming 26-28 (MCAT is unfortunately not my forte). Any thoughts on my chances?

I am waiting on the secondary. I already have OUCOM and CCOM.

well without your MCAT it is kindof difficult but I can tell you what I know from my own experiences. I have had 2 academic advising appointments here, which were extremely helpful and you can do them by phone so if you have a lot of questions I would schedule one.

To be competitive, the advisors say: 3.5 GPA, no score lower than 8 on the MCAT, over 800 hours of volunteer experience (including high school) This is on a sheet they give you at your advising appointment.

I was placed on hold last week for fall grades, and you can see my stats on my MDapps. Good luck!
