NCSU c/o 2017 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If it's the same as in the past, they replace people with similar people to maintain the class diversity- aka a small animal person drops, they put another small animal person in, zoo out, zoo in, whatever. However it wouldn't be a horrible question for you to ask the school for clarification. 🙂

So, I guess the process is pretty much what you said, Trilt. I emailed Mr. Huckel and this is what he said:

The Admissions Committee will assess any changes in class composition following the April 15 notification deadline and review the alternate list candidates.

Alternates will then be offered admission as appropriate.

All applicants remaining on the alternate list will be notified by e-mail as soon as the class roster is finalized.

Thanks,
Jeff

It will be a long summer!

I would like some pictures as well, please! that would be awesome! 😀

Procrastinate during lunch? Suureee! I private messaged you. 😀 If anyone else wants a link, just say so. I'll add some pictures of the hospital area (what I can take pictures of) and parts I missed later this afternoon.

I would like to see some pictures as well, please! That would be awesome! 😀

Quick question...I found out when I interviewed at Auburn that they have a professional dress code for all students..I was unaware of this. Can anyone tell me if NCS has any kind of dress code for students? or do you wear scrubs or regular clothing? thanks 🙂

Most of us wear jeans and t-shirts, though some dress nicer, but I think they just have nicer clothes.

Anyone here that doesn't have the school's insurance? If so and you aren't on parental insurance, what plan do you have, and is it a good way to save $$?

any other IS applicants get a racing heart when they see this thread has new posts? last year's IS letters were postmarked march 1st!

ummm yes! I check it everyday too which is probably just making me crazier...wouldn't that be a nice start to the weekend, if we heard back tomorrow? 😎 Any day now......

I don't have the school's insurance, but I am on my parent's plan. I'd say the school insurance isn't too bad though. It's only like $1400 for the year. You do have to have proof of insurance when you decline it though. Not really sure if there's a good way to do it outside of school though.

Aren't you married? Why not your husband's plan?

The great thing about NC is that they have a very straightforward medical power of attorney form for those of us who are marriagefree 🙂 It's something I've been looking into, because each state does things a little differently.

I also should look into the cost of insuring oneself plus a partner, or if NCSU will insure domestic partners. I know CSU does, but it's pricey.

Not my husband's plan because he didn't have a job when I moved here and the job he has now doesn't have benefits (he works at a very small private school). We're both under 26 and can still be kept on our parents insurances. I pay my parents what my dad calculated would be my portion so that I can show I'm not getting it for free. It didn't cost either of our parents more to keep us on because we aren't only children. They have to have the family plan regardless of us, so it was just easier that way.

I would look into the student insurance. I remember thinking it was relatively reasonable. It also covers $500 a year in vaccines which means you pay about $200 out of pocket for rabies vaccines if you need them.

Ah, that makes sense. I know someone who worked at a tiny private school for a year or two and she had no benefits either.

Once they reach 60 students they'll have the option. They have about 50 (5-12) right now, but about 10 or so won't be coming back next year. Most are graduating or moving. So if by the time we need to get our own he doesn't have that option, I'll be getting the student health insurance for us.

Hm, this thread has been so ::quiet::!

Anyone happen to know or hear anything yet about when IS letters are going out? At this rate, this is going to be the most anti-climactic decision letter, whenever it is they decide to let us know. :bang: March 15 = r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-sssssss............. It's almost more bearable not even thinking of them as a candidate school this late in the game, sheesh.

Sorry for not posting something more insightful.. just really needing to blow off some aggravation steam.

i definitely understand where you're coming from....last year the IS letters went out March 1st, but its looking like that didn't happen this year. It's so painful to wait! i can't really make a decision on where I'm going without hearing from my IS, so i'm living in limbo.

The latest I can remember people getting them on this forum (so over the last four years) was like March 8th or so. They were really slow with OOS this year, though, comparatively, so who knows...

Omg, yes, ditto for me. So many life decisions are on hold until I know where I'll be this summer/fall. I wonder why they weren't able to send the letters out by 3/1 this year since it's pretty much the same exact number of IS applicants as last year.

Thanks for mentioning that! Oh that would be so great if we got our answers this week. Dying to know already 🙁.
:luck::luck:, everyone!

Maybe you are all just so awesome, they had a really tough time making the decisions.

I'm trying to transfer into NCSU for UG, but I wish you all the best!

Best of luck, everyone! :luck:

Dangit guys, I actually lied to you. 🙁 Class of 2014 got their letters on starting on the 14th of March. Hopefully they don't make you wait that long!

aghhhh I'm in the same boat!! I'm so anxious!! I'm checking the mail as soon as I hear it arrive or as soon as I get home every day..the anticipation is killing me...and every day my opinion varies..I can't decide if i think I have a good chance or not. I just want to know! Especially since it's obviously my first choice, being IS!

Not trying to freak anyone out, but someone I know got her acceptance letter today! I don't think she applied to any of the miscellaneous programs (PhD, MBA, whatever) so hopefully that means they're all out! :xf: She lives in Raleigh.

I'm repeating this, just to avoid freakouts: If it's like past years, both acceptances and rejections come in small envelopes. Open it before you jump to conclusions!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

i wonder if the acceptances and rejections come at the same time...does anyone know?? Now I'm really freaking out...lol

Hey guys, first time poster here. Just wanted to confirm, at least some letters did arrive today! I live in Clayton (just outside Raleigh) and got my acceptance in the normal-sized white envelope! Hope to hear more good news around the thread!

As far as I know they come at the same time. I know people have gotten acceptances and waitlists so far today... but rejections don't tend to get plastered across facebook nearly as much, so not sure on that.

I am anxious to start meeting classmates. Who's starting in Fall 2017? Also, are you going to the new student reception April 5?

Congratulations!!!!! I'm assuming you will go, being IS. If so, I look forward to being classmates

Yes, definitely going--I can't give up the golden ticket! I would love to meet with people beforehand...what's on April 5th? I don't know anything about a get together then.

PM me for a link to the Facebook page (fair warning I'm doing some surgeries at the swine education unit this morning, so I may not get back to you until later)

Also, anyone already in the greater Raleigh area feel free to PM/Facebook me if you'd like to meet up.

I got accepted today! I am going to join the wolf pack! I'm IS and looking forward to meeting my future classmates!

:woot:

Waitlisted and devastated...praying for a miracle! :cry::xf:

I'm just going to put the link here for those of you who are going:

I don't know about anyone else but I was definitely too busy celebrating to respond this weekend. Still having a hard time believing it all, definitely going to need to be pinched many times between now and August. Looking forward to meeting future classmates! Unfortunately I'll be out town on the 5th so I can't attend the welcome weekend but I think we should all try to get together some time this summer, if anyone is interested. I live in the Raleigh area so let me know if anyone is interested in meeting beforehand 🙂 Congratulations fellow classmates! Let's go class of 2017 👍

So excited for everyone! I cannot wait to meet all of you in person!!!!

😀😀😀😀😀😀

Same here. I applied Lab Animal medicine (did not apply for the DVM/PhD, considering a PhD seperately) and I'm IS waitlisted.

I don't really have another option for DVM (St. George's, but may not work out for a number of reasons) so I might take a year off and apply for a PhD/reapply if I don't get in.

Waiting sucks. (Also, o hay thar A. Sup?)

My sloth's that obvious? 🙄

Waitlists suck. :xf: it moves a good bit.

I'm packing for my flight this afternoon! Very excited. The trip will be logistically a bit tricky, but it'll be great to finally see the area and school. And my SO is coming along on this trip!

Weather looks like it will be nice. Any suggestions for great places to check out in the area? We'll be around pretty much all weekend. Also will be hoping to check out places to live...anyone worked with a good real estate agent?

Current students: how were people dressed for the events last year? Any last-minute words of advice as I pack?

THANKS!

I tell everyone to go to the Museum of Natural Sciences downtown, but I'm biased because I work there. 😀 (And will actually be working there this weekend). No input on living, I had a place from undergrad and just still live there.

You're a veggie, right? For food, I've heard great things about The Fiction Kitchen, but it's new and I haven't made it there yet. Remedy Diner in downtown is great, and Irregardless is also good but a bit on the expensive side.

I didn't go to the welcome event last year, but there was a discussion on the 2017 facebook page and general consensus for dress seems to be nicer shirt/jeans, and that the reception is dressier than the Brickhouse meetup (which is just a sports bar, no dress code there).

Well, due to a complicated snarl of flight loads and finances, it looks like I won't be going...or at the least, I won't make Friday's events.

I'll try again tomorrow perhaps...if not, I'd love to hear about it from someone who was able to attend!
