A student tour guide told me that you can gauge how happy an administration is by how nice the secretary is:

So, who are the nicest secretaries you guys have encountered so far?

I'll go first:

Penn State Hershey: Winnie
An all around very sweet person (no pun intended) who answered every question with a smile and gave everyone chocolate at the end of our tour.

I have to agree with you there. I got the call from PSU yesterday to offer me an interview and Winnie was more than helpful. She answered all my questions and was very cheerful.🙂

My vote goes to Winnie from PSU as well.

Kathy from Columbia. A sweetheart, very encouraging and informative. Gotta love it when someone gives you not only the answer to your question, but the answer to the NEXT question you were going to have.

Miss Vernesta at Baylor. She's my girl.

By far the best!

Vicky from Creighton, she's a real sweety 🙂

My nomination goes to undoubtedly to 3 amazing ladies: Peggy from Vandy, Cathy from Cornell, and Gayle from UCI. They have singlehandedly made this stressful process much easier by being the understanding, caring individuals that they are. Thank you!

I mentioned her the last time this type of thread existed, and she is still on the top of my list - Veronica at Yale is always so patient and kind and cheerful. She wins in my book!

My vote is definitely for Winnie at Penn State. She gave me candy when I was asking her questions.

She loaded me with chocolate. I must have walked out of there with 2 pocketfuls of candy. Also, everyone at Penn State seems so happy. It's definately a cool school to be at. The only thing I didn't like is that they said we all have to wait 8 weeks for a decision. 🙄

Definitely Jane at Mayo and Gloria at the University of Arkansas.

Here's a vote for Joan at Einstein.

When my application was lost in the mail, she was very helpful and so kind. When it was finally found, she made a specific effort to contact me and let me know they'd found it. Also very welcoming and pleasant toward interviewing students.

Jane at Mayo and Christina at Univ. of Vermont

Definitely Winnie of Penn state (I think I'm the 7th vote). She gave me soooo much chocolate and got me to Harrisburg station in time catch my train.

1 vote for Erica at Emory.

I vote for Erica at Emory, even though she's not technically a secretary (I think she's the assistant director of admissions or something like that). She spends all day with the applicants, and she knows everything about everyone down there. When I went down there, she informed the one person at Emory who was an alumni from my school that I was going to be there. She takes a great interest in all the applicants and is a great person. It must rub off on the med students, cause they were all great too.

The women at U of Miami were very nice, although I cannot remember their names...

I just wanted to hug'em....

Agreed. However, she isn't just the secretary, I believe she is the Director of Admissions.

Another vote for Gayle at UCI 😀

Also, the staff at Loyola- very friendly to us out-of-towners.

Must mentioning Loyola, if I haven't already. Rosemary and Judy are amazing!

I like Gayle @ UCI a lot too, but my vote won't count unless I get an interview there, I presume. SO, I'll just be sitting here for an invite to come any day now 🙂

I'm surprised nobody mentioned MCG's secretary. Althought i can't remember her name right now, she was by far the nicest, sweetest, and most helpful person. I hope to have more encounters with her in the next four years (strictly for professional reasons for those of you with dirty minds).😍

I haven't had my interview there yet, but when I called to find out the status of my application, the secretary from NJMS was really nice to me.

She looked up my file and set up the interview date even though they hadn't sent out the letter yet.

And I kinda let out a "woohoo" in her ear when she said I passed the screening for an interview, and she didn't complain about my possibly damaging her eardrum.

Very nice lady.

I nominate Linda Devaughn - director of admissions from MCG along with the mgmt and clerical staff there; they are all extremely friendly and helpful.

The whole admissions office at UPenn is phenomenal especially Gaye Sheffler!

I forgot her name, but the office at Case Western was so nice to me when I called them! I think she's the head of the office.

I vote for Kathy at UUtah and the ladies of Loyola!

I'm casting my vote for Gayle at UCI also. She was so amazingly helpful both on the phone and at the interview days. Overall, everyone at UCI was really great... a different feeling from other UC's.

Guys...she's the director of admissions, not that being a secretary is somehow wrong. I just wanted to clairify a bit.

definitely Veronica at Yale... definitely the most patient and friendly secretary I've spoken to. Almost made me feel like I'd get an interview there soon. 😀

winnie for sure over at psu... chocolate afterwards is always a plus

Jane at Mayo is awsome, and Erica Black at Emory was really great. Erica actually told two M1's who were from my state that I would be interviewing, and they met me between interviews. And....she's beautiful😍 !

gayle at UCI gets my vote! she's super sweet and really helpful! also the lady at drexel i forgot her name though is really wonderful.

Ellen Rosenblum @ Case... sooo nice

Michelle Anderson Thomas at USUHS

Dude -- this cannot be an important enough an issue to resurrect and a lot of those folks mentioned have even likely changed jobs in the last several years since the thread started. Just start a new thread. Or at least acknowledge that you are reviving a very old one. Folks don't want to waste time replying to a poster who hasn't been on here since 2003.🙄

I disagree. It's never not important to talk about nice people in this process. I have to say the people at UAB were exceptionally nice on the phone, and even nicer in person. Really fabulous.

👍 Xild. I like nice people, too.

Marry Ann (I think that's her name) at MCW practically walked me to the elevator to show me the cafeteria and chatted with me the whole way. Awesome.

ok i guess i'll add a nice person.

Linda (donno last name) a 4th yr at NYMC drove me from the admissions office to my interview at the hospital (5 min drive but way longer walk). I would have been totally lost and late if she wasn't there. Thanks Linda.
