NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
looks like we're the only two committed to NSU..

i've got a supply list from an M1 if you want to start stocking up during x-mas 😉

P.S. djd2187 did you pay online? that website they gave me to pay online hasnt been working for me...

I did pay online but I am going to call and make sure they received the payment since it gave me receipt like I was buying something (it said order has been sent to the address listed, weird).

Ha, yes please send me the list, if you could pm me as well. Thank you 🙂

They admissions office said that accepted applicants will receive an acceptance packet via certified mail. From earlier posts to this thread, it sounds like it took a while for everyone's packets to arrive.

the packets have to be signed, since it is certified mail in order for them to be received so make sure someone is home or maybe a neighbor can sign. I know my packet was signed by my neighbor, since nobody was home to accept it.

I was afraid of that. Stupid, unhelpful neighbors!

Hmm I wonder what happens if we change the quantity of "COM DO First Deposit" in the shopping cart... I want another

you might be able to give an acceptance to someone else, buy your way into the school 🙂

Just thought I would let yall know that if you have questions for those of us in the class....you might want to get them in during this thanksgiving vacation because after that there will be some exam craziness until Mid-december!! I'll keep an eye on my email over the break if you have questions: [email protected]

I committed to NSU (sent in first deposit) a little while ago as well. I'm pretty pumped and have just been spending free time at work looking at places to live down there.

Hey X, NSU is the way to go!

haha it is definitely an awesome school.....i was hoping to do some (not super-crazy but a little lol) research, and i know nova isn't research-heavy, but i'll have to figure out if the AWESOME location is worth the extra $$$
.....either way i'm super-excited, and maybe i'll see you there next year 🙂

$950 is a HUGE freaking deposit. Nonrefundable?!

congrats to everyone who was accepted!!! i hope to see many of you there come august. i interviewed on 10/15 as well for those who asked. did you all join the facebook group that was started for class of 2014?

i think it is nonrefundable but i'm not positive....some schools have $2k nonrefundable ones, but i'm poor so regardless it's no fun hah

Grad housing 😉 Kramer did you interview 9/15?
I think I'm going to live closer to downtown Ft. Lauderdale near the Las Olas area, though I'd have to find a roommate for most of the awesome apts down there.
I did interview on 9/15. I am almost sure that we were at the hotel after the tour and took the shuttle back to the airport.🙂

Accepted as well! I got the email a few hours ago. Not as thrilling as getting the first acceptance, but still a great feeling. 🙂

Where do we find our NSU ID?

I need it for the 'Letter of Intent'

🙂

Yep that was me I remember! How far away is Las Olas? Is rent expensive?

Congrats to Scummie and all the other accepts! A little something more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, eh?

Haha, I knew it!

Las Olas seems to be a solid 20min(no traffic) - 45min(traffic) drive from the campus and the rent I've seen are like 900/mo a person for a 2br/2bd so it is on the expensive side too. But the places are all like luxury condominiums with gyms, great rooms, concierge service, librarys, crazy upgaded kitchens, gorgeous pools, close to the beach and the downtown area.
It seems like a nice place to get away from the campus if there is any free time. Though I still have no real idea of where I will stay and don't know if its so reasonable to be far from campus.

My interview is coming up :scared: Any advice? I love this school on paper. AND I WOULD LOVE TO LEAVE MICHIGAN. I have had enough white Christmases.

Am I right in thinking it takes 2-3 weeks for them to get back to you after the interview?

👍 For getting away from white christmases!!

the interview is very relaxed, I would recommend reading the interview feedback thread. Most of the question come straight from there and one piece of advice that I can give you is to be honest. Good luck!!!

I'm interviewing @ nova in a couple of weeks but I'm leaning towards MSU...actually looking forward to getting out of the Ft. lauderdale heat.

did you look at on campus housing, it seems a lot cheaper - about 620 dollars a month. Plus, its about a mile away from campus so you still get that feeling of being away from campus.

MSU is a wonderful school. All I have to say is be careful what you wish for though. That Ft. Lauderdale heat is gonna sound awfully nice when your going to class for months on end in the freezing cold. Believe me...

I'm not that big a fan of campus housing because of the rules and regulations. A couple of my friends in different schools at Nova (psych & law) said I should live elsewhere. Also I don't really want to live in the suburbia again (The school I went to for undergrad is a solid hour and a half drive to a major city). The price for grad housing is a big plus but I think the amenities and lifestyle of a pricier locale maybe worth it. But then again, its not even December so my mind may change.

How many people are doing HPSP?

I'm planning on doing Army HPSP if I get accepted. I submitted my application and am up for Board review during first week of December. The recruiter said he was 99.99% sure that I should be able to get into the program but I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch.

Accepted. Does anybody know the matriculation requirements for NOVA now that I'm in. I want to put my deposit down ASAP . The reason I am asking is because my molecular biology class isn't looking so great this semester. there's a slight chance I might get my first C in it.

It should say it in your acceptance packet. If you haven't received it yet, I am somewhat in the same position as you, so I can tell you that mine said to finish my master's program and asked for my final transcript. It did not say anything about grades.

I'm debating whether or not to...

which way are you leaning? and what reservations do you have? pretty much my whole family has done HPSP in some capacity, so I may be able to answer some questions.

Hey everyone, I'll be in the class of 2014! Super excited! I'm doing HPSP with the Navy if anyone has any questions (Already accepted). Can't wait to see all of you there!

Ok people, I need a little advice... So I'm in the U of M's honors program right now and on track for graduating "Summa Cum Laude". All I pretty much have to do is write my thesis from my research and take an honors seminar that totally gets in the way of me relaxing my Spring semester... Is it worth having those extra words on my undergraduate diploma seeing as I've already been accepted to med school? I didn't even mention the honors program in AACOMAS. All they were able to see was that I took some "honors" classes.

Is it really worth it?

Contacted Nova today since I hadn't heard anything from them since I submitted in early october and found out that they never received my Signature Page. I had to fax it over to them, little late in the game now... too bad because the school sounds like somewhere i'd really enjoy. I also got conflicting information from two diff people regarding whether my psychology LOR counts as non-science. Hoping that all of this works out

so its ok if we just fax the signature page? We dont have to mail it in?

I've been complete there since 9/8 and called twice to make sure they had gotten everything...haven't heard a peep since then🙁

Hopefully now that you cleared up your issue you will get an invite soon:xf::luck:

If you are going to get a publication out of it, then go for it, otherwise - I would say forget about it, you have already been accepted into medical school.

I just came interviewd here and all I can say is positive things so far. I hope I get in here! The campus is really nice

We are submitting our results to "Pain" later this December. I'm gonna continue with my directed research I'll just drop out of the honors program so I don't have to do the extra work (I'm so lazy now)

"you have already been accepted into medical school" ~ my thoughts exactly! Here comes the easiest semester of my college career woohoo!
