Wouldn't you rather still graduate with honors? Just because you don't have to is a silly reason to give up all the hard work throughout college. Just my opinion...

You are right. It is rather silly to stop now when I have so little left to do and I honestly don't have a good reason to quit. The way I see it though, everything I did in college was for me, not to just fulfill some honors requirements. I chose a "major" I was interested in, neuroscience, I was able to do some great research on a topic I found interesting in neuroscience, hyperalgesia, which lead to a published abstract and poster in SFN and also another project submitted to "Pain".
Does graduating with Latin words on my diploma make any of my accomplishments more special to me? Not really. If anything, they show everyone else how "great" I was in undergrad which is something I can live without because like I said earlier, I did it all for me not someone else. The only reason I joined the honors program was for the self-centered, I've got to look better than everyone else, sort of reasons, and since I've already been accepted, I don't have to put on that show any more you know? Although I do feel kinda bad for just quitting... lol but that's what everyone is doing here at the U so I gotta follow the crowd 😉

isn't graduating with honors (cum laude, etc) based on gpa and not whether or not you're in the honors program? won't you still be able to graduate summa (i think that is what you mentioned), it would just not have been through the honors college......either way your gpa will prove you're awesome, and i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide 🙂

At the University of Minnesota, in order to have the Latin on your diploma you have to be in the honor program, do all the honors requirements, (research, thesis, thesis defense, thesis public presentation, honors courses, volunteering)... So even if you have a 4.0 if your arent in the program you get no honors

I don't know, that system kind of makes sense, if you ask me.
Case in point: at my graduation, we had two co-valedectorians, both with perfect GPA's. One was an intercultural communications major, the other was a biology major. We all knew who the 'real' valedectorian was...

I'm pretty sure C's are fine with NSUCOM. As long as you maintain above a 3.0 cumulative GPA and "pass" all your classes, then you should be golden.
PLUS...Our saying here is "7-0 = D.O" so they can't hate on people in the C range too much. 🙂 haha

Hey! I thought I'd drop in and say hi to all my future fellow classmates! I've finally made up my mind and dropped off my fee in the mail...
Good luck to all the interview candidates...NSU was easily my mellowest interview to date! ZERO STRESS! Other than having to put up with the lame music from the NSUCOM intro DVD menu, no other complaints about that day.
Now to start looking into places to live!
And, any suggestions with what to do until matriculation next august?

Hey, just curious if NSUCOM students run into the same problems as LECOM-B students do concerning rotation sites being dropped and having to get new ones? Do NSU students do most of their rotations in FL? Does anyone have a residency match list? I can't seem to find it.

You pick your site via lottery, and that is where you do your rotations, I haven't heard about sites being dropped, only added. Most people rotate in Fl.
Since rotation location is done by lottery, are you at the same location for the entire third year or is it possible to have two locations (3, 4, etc) and you have to move within the third year? Is 4th year yours to decide since they're all electives? Does that mean you have to set all of them up yourself (find programs, fill out the paper work, etc)??

I have a question about this lottery. My boyfriend and I are going to the same school (we've already been accepted to AZCOM, but want to go to NSU because we are from Tampa. I've already gotten in and he interviews February 2nd). If we go to Nova I am concerned that because of the lottery we will be sent to different areas. Do they do any accommodations for people in a relationship who may be living together to at least go to the same area?
Also, if anyone is dropping their interview PLEASE post it here! An earlier interview for him would really help us out.

I heard that you pretty much can get the location you want, and that if you don't get the one you were looking for you can swap with other people.

If you get a interview, you are 75% likely to get accepted. But out of everyone that applies, as sonofva mentioned it already, its around 10%.

I heard this is the case, but really only if you get your interview early. I remember reading somewhere that a lot of people who interview late are wait listed. Sorry to be a killjoy, though I could be wrong.

Last year they told us 95% passed COMLEX over the last 5 years. Hope this helps!
As for rotation sites, though...3rd year your rotation site is totally lottery. i.e. you are randomly assigned a number, and you pick your rotation site in numerical order. So the person who is #1 will obviously get their first choice. But whoever gets #240 gets LAST CHOICE. ICK *it'll be me, now...with my luck* So, #50 might not get their first choice if #1-49 already took all the spots at that site. It's also REALLY tough to swap, since pretty much everyone picks their highest preference available. That being said, a lot of the hospitals are in South FLA, and are really close to each other, even if you're not at the same actual place.
4th year is Elective rotations, so you go where you want for which electives you want.

i was complete in late Sept. received confirmation email. i haven't seen a status change nor heard anything else, and after reading something here about a signature page I decided to email them. this was the response:
As of November 2, NSU no longer requires a Signature Page for applications submitted via the web. By typing your name after the final application question, By entering my name and today's date, I am certifying that I am the applicant to this program of study. I further certify that I have not shared nor will I share my unique Login ID and PIN for NSU's application system, you are verifying that you authorize us to process an application on your behalf. We were experiencing some errors where applicants were prompted to print a signature page after this date, but the issue has been resolved. If you have applied after November 2, 2009, please disregard this prompt. If you applied before this, please print, sign, and return the attached signature page via fax to 954-262-3601. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

you probably don't have to do it again. but i honestly can't remember if i did it or not. i did so many applications and now i'm just worried my late september application is now an early december application. gah!

I called a couple of times in the fall and they said I was complete and am waiting for review...this process is taking so long with this school👎 Anywho, hope the process has been going well for you!

I was complete before November 2nd and they invited me to interview without a signature page.
new to this sdn thingy.....but actually out of 2500 or so of total applicants around 600 receive interview invites and about 230 matriculate. So approximately 75% (or around 450/600) of those who interview at Nova are accepted, of course not everyone who is accepted chooses Nova, in favor of other schools that they were accepted to....anyways, acceptance rate at Nova is around 18% (450acceptances/2500total applicants) and about 9% of the total applicants matriculate (230matriculants/2500total applicants), hope this helps.

It says that they interviewed 481, and accepted 366, which is about 76% acceptance rate.
yea i looked at eduers awhile ago.....i messed up the numbers a bit bc of the info that they gave my group before the interview but i think i was still kinda close, so yea like you and i said approximately 75% acceptance rate post interview....now according to 2007 eduers data, 481 applicants interview out of the 2100 total applicants so the interview rate is ~23% .....and acceptance rate of those who interview is 76% so 366 out of 481. so the acceptance rate in contrast to the number of total applicants is (366/2100) is 17% for 2007....

I just put in my deposit to NSU. So unless something life-changing happens (as if this choice is not 🙂) I will be heading to Ft. lauderdale.

PC or mac doesn't matter, they claim we are moving to computerized exams in certain classes so they said we would need laptops with long battery lives. The school was selling a packaged dell with a battery claiming to last up to 12 hours. I have a lenovo thinkpad with a battery that lasts me anywhere from 6-10 hours depending on my usage.

At the end of the interview, they'll usually tell you. You can find online about 1.5-2 weeks afterwards. Personally, I found out 8 days later.
