Not sure about username but I think the password is your bday in (mmddyy) format. I think you can also find it again somehow. Maybe by clicking new user and filling it out again?

how do out of state applicants usually get from the airport to the school? also, is there a student host program?

I just declined my interview invitation. Good luck for those hoping to receive an invite.

You may be my hero...I just got an interview invite! WOOT! I'm a floridian and have a bunch of friends at NOVA and they love it! Good luck everyone with late interviews!

There is no official student host program, although you might find some friendly students willing to let you crash at their place.

I think the best bet to get from airport to school/hotel is to use a shuttle. Just call the hotel ahead of time. I stayed at the Comfort Suites??? or Comfort Inn...Something like that. Don't spend extra money on a rental car when a shuttle will save you dinero.

They just received my secondary, so it should be a matter of a week or two before I hear anything about an interview, right?

Accepted!!! Interviewed on 12/15!!!😀
Now to cancel some interviews...

congrats everyone thats been accepted.

anybody have interviews tomorrow?

My first acceptance!!! Interviewed 12/10. So excited!!

i was pleasantly surprised by how quickly i heard back from them! complete on the 12th and interview invite today, the 15th.

Has anyone heard anything about any problems with 3rd and 4th year clerkships?

From what I have read so far, there havn't been any problems with the 3rd year clerkships. I figure that the on problem that people run into is during the lottery but havn't heard any complains regarding that either.

Hi everyone, it's my first time on SDN. I have an interview at NSU on January 21 (this Thursday). I stupidly booked a hotel that's a little far from the school and I'm having trouble finding a way to get there. On the offchance that anyone else that has an interview that day reads this and is driving, would anyone be able to give me a ride? I will pay you gas money, I just think paying $35 for a cab each way is ridiculous. Thanks in advance.

the two biggest places students live are sunforest and palm trace. sunforest is across the street and palm trace is less than a mile. after that students live anywhere in plantation or pembrook pines. tons of apartments in both of those. i like plantaton best. you really dont need to go more than once to apartment hunt. and for those that cant afford coming down - both sunforest and palm trace are safe bets and very close. also available is student housing just so you know...

what kinda college athlete? d1?

I wrestled for air force for two years and then transferred out to a D3 school. wrestling D1 was way too stressful and no one cared about school for the most part, at least at the level needed to get into med school. It was an awesome experience, but I needed to make a change to ensure I wasn't going to end up working at walmart lol

Was complete a little late..around thanksgiving? Received an invite for an interview last week, will be interviewing late February :S. Going to be trying to call in to see if any canceled interviews so I can move up closer.

Is admissions on a rolling basis?

I was complete the end of november as well ( i know kinda late). I am still hoping for a interview since this is my first choice 🙁 do I have a chance?

I'm sure you do. I called in the other day and got my interview bumped to Feb. 2nd from Feb 25th. It sounds like there are few people who've been bailing on their interviews as of late.

has anyone who interviewed two weeks ago, jan 7th, hear anything yet? still early, but just checking.

why is it so quiet in here? i interviewed jan 21 and i'm practically counting down the days until feb. i think they said they meet again the first week of feb (every other wednesday if i remember right), so i'm anxiously waiting until then!

I'm ready to tear my hair out over this school. It was probably my first choice - but I've received interview invites at every osteopathic school that has gotten back to me and I haven't heard anything from NSU. I was complete in late September! Gah!

So, I have my interview coming up, anyone have any tips to offer? Is it low stress? Are there ethics questions? I'm preparing right now with the interview feedback section, but I also saw their 7 minute video on youtube and, to be honest, I don't know what I'm supposed to take away from that, except maybe some history on the school (I already knew it was established) and a look at their fabulous campus. Nova's one of my top choices and I'm really excited about the interview. I'm mostly working on having that shine through with my responses. Any tips would be appreciated.

Wow, just checked the weather in Ft. Lauderdale. Nice!

Hi, Linka, when were you complete?

Don't remember exactly when I was complete. Sometime in November, I think.

before the interviews, they told us to just be ourselves and put away (in our minds) whatever rehearsed responses we had since that wouldn't let our personalities shine through. they were very low stress. the first thing they asked was if i wanted a cookie or some water. the second was the "tell me about yourself" one that i really didn't want to get, but did lol. be able to answer why you want to be a doctor and specifically why osteopathic med. i was asked to talk in detail about one of my experiences (they let me pick, but if i remember correctly i was given the criteria of healthcare related experiences). we all had an appreciation for music in common, so that made me even more calm to be with like-minded people. i didn't get asked any ethics questions but i mentioned to another interviewee how i had listened to some podcasts on healthcare to prepare, only to not get asked about it, and she said she got asked her opinion. so i guess it depends on who you get.

i had 2 interviewers, and there were 3 groups of interviewers. 2 groups of 2 and 1 group of 3. they split us in half and while the first group was interviewing, the second was touring the buildings. then we switched. they ended up running really late with the interviews. i felt so bad for this one interviewee, he was in the first interviewing group with me but ended up having to interview with the second group, and had to miss the tour of the buildings as a result. some people in the second interviewing group arrived really late to lunch, so i felt really bad for them, too. so in the chance that you end up being that last person to interview, i suggest you bring something to snack on or bring money to buy something at the cafeteria (in the same building as the interview). if i haven't been thorough in my babbling response, let me know what else you're interested in finding out about the interview day.

Thank you for your prompt response, The Poet Sings! It sounds like the standard interview process then. And, oh dear, the "tell me about yourself" question. I hate that one too and have managed to elude that one thus far. I know they're just basically asking you to lay out your educational and professional background, but I feel that if the interviews are open-file, which Nova's seem to be, then that question is superfluous. One last question: What time did the day end?

although we went over time with the interviews, we managed to make up time because the dean couldn't make it and the replacement speaker didn't fill up the allotted hour. we were done at 1:30 instead of 2 and the optional bus tour went from 2-3 as was scheduled. i'm guessing they couldn't push that earlier, so i used the extra half hour to look around the building and call my family and boyfriend to tell them everything. i actually used that dreaded question to talk about my personality rather than my educational and professional history, because as you said, it seemed superfluous to do so. i knew they'd get into that stuff anyways, so i just wanted to make sure the interview stayed on a good foot, talking about my personality strengths before we went into the weaknesses in my file that i knew we'd inevitably touch upon. which we did but thankfully it wasn't anywhere near as bad as i had expected. someone i know who had previously interviewed there said their first question was "why did you get X in Y class?" and trust me, if we went class by class through all my bad grades, it would make for quite a troubling and high stress interview. i realized later that there was something else i wanted them to know, in regards to my work ethic and determination, that hadn't been mentioned (as a result of them not asking those hard questions), so i just emailed the admissions counselor. during the lunch she told us that if there is anything else we want them to know, to email her so she can add it to our files. they really do want to get to know us and ensure the students they pick are the best fit for the class. sorry i'm so long winded! you ask a simple question and get all this. i bet you'll never ask me anything again lol.

No, no, you're very informative! I appreciate your thorough responses! And I'm not a fan of the strengths and weaknesses questions either, but I've had them before so I figure I know how to reply.

Also, another general interview question. When they do ask you about that X grade in class Y...I'm always torn how to answer those. I mean, I assume they don't want to hear excuses. I'm two years out of undergrad so I mostly just go with the difference in maturity level and the focus/determination that I have now as opposed to back then and point to my MCAT score. Although I've never not passed a class, so do they ask you that question for Cs?

it was for a class he hadn't passed. i don't know his response. if i was asked that question, i'd go into the life issues i was having at the time (and pray i didn't start crying), and then tell them what i've learned from the experience. going with the maturity thing and saying you rocked the mcat sounds like a good idea. i think maybe i didn't get asked because i made up for it on the mcat. and i had mentioned my academic struggles in my personal statement, so maybe they felt no need to beat a dead horse and stress me out with that. going to bed now, my next response won't be nearly as prompt 😉.

It's a good thing I'm fresh out of questions for now then. 🙂 Good night and thanks again!

When I interviewed in September....the questions they asked me were straight from that DVD. They never asked me, personally, why osteopathic med. Also I didnt shadow any DOs either but I still got accepted so who knows.

I got the "what are your opinions on healthcare reform" question. I have been in the healthcare industry for about 12 years now, so I also got "how has healthcare changed over the last 10 years, and what changes do you see in the future?" I didn't fee like I was being grilled, but it looked like they were looking for a sound justification for my statements/opinions. It was a very laid back (open file) interview...You should do just fine!

I interviewed at Nova on 1/12, and this was a question in my interview. I failed Spanish then proceeded to get a D on the retake. This was 7 years ago when I was a Sophmore at the school I got my Bachelors from. The interviewer led into it by complimenting me on my physics grades (A's across the board) and my overall Science GPA (I believe it was 3.35 when I sent in the app), then kinda jokingly threw in the thing about Spanish. I was a terrible student at that school so I was truthful about my misdirected priorities. My personal statement had already touched on my early academic career so I was consistent.

Good luck to everyone who is interviewing or is awaiting a decision. I'm an m1 here at NSU and wanted to pass along some information I got today, since I remember how anxious I was in your shoes a year ago.

If you interviewed on Jan. 21st, last Thursday, the committee will be making a decision on Feb. 15th. I know that's a really long time to wait and it sucks. A professor told me that today. I don't know if it's true or not but I would assume it is.

Just wanted to pass along that info. I hope you all get in and come here, believe me it's an amazing school and you'll be really glad you came. If you have any questions or wanna talk shop before the interview and ask me any questions you have, feel free to pm me. We're here for you guys. :luck:

Oh boo. I thought we were supposed to find out the first or second week of Feb. I don't know how I'll survive to the third week without losing my mind! But thanks for letting us know. At least this way when the second week ends and I still haven't heard from them, I won't think that they'd forgotten about me.

Just received an e-mail notifying me of my acceptance! Interviewed on Jan 12th, feeling good!

Got my acceptance letter. The 30 day deposit is killer for those of us who have not made up our minds...shady business.

Congrats!

Thanks DitchDoc! Looks like we are in the same boat as far as our acceptances go. I'm still waiting on a few other decisions, but really liked Nova. Have you made a final decision yet, and what's your preference between LECOM-B and Nova?
