NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just paid, and got the error report message.

I don't know see a page to print and sign. Where do I go for this? And did you mail it in already?

They have that virtual signature thing so I'm not sure if it's required for the DO school apps (since they use the same system for multiple types of applications), but I mailed in the signature page just in case.

I didn't see it at first either, but if you log out and log back in I think it'll be there. It says:

"If you have submitted an application but were unable to print out the signature page at the time of completing it, please click here."

On the secondary question, "Are you acquainted with an osteopathic physician (e.g., family physician, relative, or close friend)? If so, please provide name, relationship to physician, institution and date of graduation and where they earned their osteopathic degree (in that order)." Does the institution mean the place they are practicing now?

Yep. Where they are based out of, I think.

Now the real question is, will they wait for your physician letter before they review your application? My letter isn't going to be ready until the end of July. NSU is definitely my top-choice DO school.

Hi guys, I do not post much here, but I got my NSUCOM secondary yesterday.

I was wondering if I should submit it or wait until my I get my second MCAT score, (taking july 29). I feel hesitant to submitting my secondary before my second score comes in because I read in others thread that some DO schools do not wait until your second scores comes in, and reject if your score does not meet their cutoff. What do you guys think? also I heard that NSUCOM might have a 27 MCAT cutoff, that sounds a little bit ridiculous, especially when I had a friend get into FSU with a 26 and 3.6. Any thoughts?

Log back in and you'll see something that says if you were unable to print the signature page to click here (or something like that).

Ugh really? I read that as put down the institution where they got their osteopathic degree only. Oops! Oh well, too late!

I would recommend turning it in so atleast you can get the ball rolling, Especially since they have rolling admissions and most of the class is full by end of december.

during my interview last year, there were two students who didn't have their DO letter in yet, so just turn in as soon as you can.

do they want our letters now, or wait for an interview? i dont remember seeing anything about letters

I did the same thing. I'm not overly worried about it, since most on my list were in private practice. 😎

I'd like to know this as well. Maybe someone should call...

Edit: I did try to call and was on hold forever for the 2nd time today. They must either be very busy or not have many people to answer the phones (or both).

As I was waiting I looked around their website and found this.
http://medicine.nova.edu/do/admissions/procedures.html

The following supplemental application materials must be received by the College by March 1:
  • A supplemental application, which will be accessible AFTER completion of the AACOMAS application, is received by NSU-COM. Please make note, it takes approximately 4 - 6 weeks for NSU-COM to receive the AACOMAS application.
  • A non-refundable application fee will be required when completing the NSU online application.
  • A letter of evaluation from the pre-professional committee, or, if such a committee does not exist, then three letters of evaluation: two from science professors, and one from a liberal arts professor.
  • A letter of evaluation from a physician
So I hung up. It sounds to me like we should just go ahead and send them.

On last years app, I answered it as the institution/school that they matriculated from, not where they are currently practicing. Was not an issue during my interview. I honestly never heard anything about any of my answers to the secondary questions. Good luck to all of you applying!

DO letter? All it said was letter from a physician in the instructions.

hey guys,

previous applicants will probably have a better response for this question, but here it goes... i know they ask for 2 science letters and 1 liberal arts letter, well, my non-science letter isnt exactly from a liberal arts professor. shes a full professor but i took basketball, coaching basketball, and coaching concepts with her. do you think they'll accept this letter at the liberal arts letter?

I wouldn't.

When did you send your LORs and did they e-mail you that they were received? I sent mine via Interfolio on 7/6 and haven't heard anything about them yet.

Mine were delivered via interfolio on 7/9 (sent 7/8).

I got an e-mail stating:

"Thank you for your interest in Nova Southeastern University.
We are pleased to acknowledge today's receipt of the following document(s) for admission to Nova Southeastern University:

Letter of Reference

By applying to Nova Southeastern University , you have chosen a unique educational opportunity. NSU is an exciting place to study and a dynamic educational community."

last night. Had you already submitted your secondary when you mailed your LORs? Are all of your LORs present and all requirements met?

Gah that sucks...guess I'll have to call.

Yeah I think I was the first person to submit the secondary, haha Sent my LORs 5 seconds after I submitted the secondary. All LORs present and reqs met. Guess I'll call on Monday. Probably just didn't send me the e-mail or something.

Do they also show up on WebSTAR for you?

Webstar for me shows 2 fall 2011 applications, doesn't have any information and doesn't give a status, I don't even know where I shoudl be looking on there

True. I see it. I guess I'll print it out and send it in Monday. Thanks.

I have two Fall 2011 Applications too.

It only charged me for one payment though, so I am not mad, just confused, LOL. I guess I'll be calling them on Monday just to make sure everything went through correctly.

does anyone else get just a blank page when they try to pay for the secondary? i see that some of you were able to actually pay and then get the error message, but the system just drops the connection and i get a general internet page not loaded.

Oh no, you have to input your information again, but you said you had gotten a blank page when you tried to pay for it. Did you mean when you try to open the page where you input your information? I just assumed you meant when you clicked "Submit" for the payment, sorry 🙂

You might try a different browser? It's weird because everyone else who had problems seemed to have just an error page after they click submit. Definitely call them later if it still doesn't work so you can get it finished asap 🙂

heyy thanks for all your help sedaniel 🙂

just called the almighty lady who was listed as a help resource on the application page. and i just tried to submit the secondary and all the links worked perfectly. Yay!! she was really nice and said to let her know by email since it is easier to track, if you DO get an error message when you submit. That way she can look through the records and make sure it actually got submitted. and.. i just got a confirmation email too. woot! never been so happy that someone took $50 from me haha

Glad everything worked out!

Just got an e-mail saying they've received my signature page. Looks like I'll be calling in the morning to see if everything is complete or if I need to do anything else. Since I have gotten confirmation about my secondary, letters and signature page though it seems like everything should be in order.

Let us know; I got that email too and one for my LORs, so I'm pretty sure I'm complete but I haven't actually gotten a "You're complete" email either.

I wouldn't.
unfortunately, you were right. i called today and asked. luckily, i took a religion class last summer and i called the professor today and he said he'd write me the letter.

Where did you get the signature page to mail in?

hey guys, where do you find your webstar ID number?

or do they just want the login ID i created?

Just called and got confirmation, I am complete. They said that they have not yet started reviewing applications and as of right now do not have a set date.

I didn't see a signature page. Can someone explain that to me? Also, I did not get a confirmation with a pdf file. I did get a confirmation of my payment, but not the application itself.

Each of those emails occurs a couple days apart. If you log in to your application again, on WebSTAR, you should see your app (most of us have two apps listed for some reason). There should also be a hyperlinked phrase that says something about 'click if you were unable to print the signature sheet' and will send you to a .pdf of the signature page to print and mail.

For the two apps listed... one is the secondary and the other is the AACOMAS app.

I'm not sure which one the "Decision:" field will pop up on.
