i seriously hope that you're right about the easing up after intro theory.
I think what they are doing is a hazing...
Never ever did NYCOM have so many hours of class AND having it mandatory. They are trying to bring their baord scores up thats all.
I have a big feeling that once Intro is over, it will all even out.
😱 <~ anyone else like this every night???? LOL
i'm burnt too. i heard through the grapevine that someone asked linda if the schedule would be less intense for the next section, and that she said yes.
i don't know if this is true or not though, just hearsay...
a second year suggested we contact linda to let her know how we feel about the schedule also. not sure if student's speaking up makes a difference though....maybe someone else can weigh in on that.
The person you want to contact is Dr. Claire Bryant, not Linda. Dr. Bryant is the Assistant dean of pre-clinical education. She is the one who ultimately puts together our schedules. Her office is down the hall from admissions and she's very friendly so don't hesitate to go up and speak to her. Linda works more with clubs, activities and the sga.
if enough of us speak up, they'll have to at least listen. who knows if anything will change... but we could try
Study in class. If you study in class, you can just go home and relax. Most of the professors waste your time lecturing, you'll learn who is worth listening to. I love Stepp's lecture notes for example, but he's boring as a lecturer (although he does know his stuff). I sit in his lectures and study while I'm there.
As a second year, I'm sympathizing with you guys a little. I can't believe you have 8-5 class EVERY day. The few times we actually have 8-5 (we've had it once so far this year) I'm burnt out and when I get home I just relax.
Personally, I can't sit in class for 8 hours and then just study. My suggestion to you guys is to do something similar to what I do. Study in class. You'll find studying on your own to be a huge way to save time. Read through the powerpoints in about 10-15 minutes at the beginning of all lectures and see if there is anything you may need to pay attention to. If not, spend the rest of the lecture time studying the material through reading the notes/powerpoints/review books. It will save you the need to study when you get home, trust me.
its not so hard - u can use headphones and stream yesterdays lectures -ive done it already a few times and ive seen other people doing it too - just sit in the back.

Well, on the bright side (not that there's much of one), at least it's enough time for a nap.
If the first years have a SGA we should fight this attendance policy and this schedule. There should be no class after an exam. There also shouldn't be multiple exams in one day.

As a side note, does anyone know if you can access your finantial info online on NYIT or NYCOM? I still haven't receive my check.
Yeah, sad to say it but I don't even stream let alone pay attention to many of the lectures. I can learn more reading a book or the packets they give us rather than listening to lecture. The only good thing about mandatory attendance is that I'm forced to start my reading every day at 8am, which is actually turning out to be productive! 🙂i just wanna say that board scores isnt the only reason for this attendance policy. im old school nycom, back when 10 people showed up to lecture. and i actually was one of those 10 people. at any rate, nycom tries hard to get outside people to come here and lecture. and for the most part, the adjuncts that they get are "experts" in their field. im sure you will agree that most are better than some of the full-time faculty. and think about it, would you wanna come here and lecture to an empty lecture hall? and i know you can make the argument that they get paid regardless of how many people show up. i've said all this to mr. bow-tie himself. but it just makes us look bad to the outside.
i definitely dont agree with the policy, but i just wanted to give you guys another perspective. all i can say is use your time wisely, take naps in class, stream other lectures, study for something else... they can force you to go but they cant force you to listen.

Simple solution would be making lectures from a guest lecturer mandatory.
I think it also has to do with the ~10% of the second years that were kicked out from what I heard... rumors perhaps. But maybe they realized how much money they couldve made with those 30 extra students!
