Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes waiting on Downstate but I have a really bad feeling now. Also waiting on one post- interview decision. Very worried.

I would keep your hope alive. Doesn't NYMC get an absurd amount of applications per year (12,000?). I would say that anyone would have a poor chance at NYMC. I feel you will have better luck at the Downstates!

When does the decision get released?

NYMC rejection.
I'm sorry! Were you on hold first or just... Hanging? I just sent an update, haven't heard anything from them since marked complete in August.

Still waiting for that first II -- rejected from 4, holds at 2, silence from 16.

When all cards are played, I think we should all buy ourselves cakes.

I was just hanging...Good luck I hope you get an II soon.

Lol... at Mayo when they put someone on the wait-list they send an email and the subject header is "Congratulations on your Medical School Status" and then you open the email and it says "we wish to congratulate you on your placement to the wait list .... "
Even better, when you are rejected, they call it: No Longer Under Consideration. Got to Love Mayo.

I should know sometime in Feb. After I find out I need to make a plan. Look into research jobs in NY, move home to pay for my student loans..work on my EC's. I took the MCAT 2x and raised my GPA in a master program so that part of my app is fine. Also prob apply DO next cycle. Thats all I can do.

In a sea of no's, you only need one yes. Nobody needs two wives. Rooting for us both, buddy!

This week has been a tough one, another rejection here 🙁

NYMC rejection.
I am really sorry. I know how heartbreaking it feels to have been rejected from a school when you have the same stats as other applicants that you see on SDN but you yourself get rejected without an interview. I fell into a deep sadness for like three days and the only way I got out of it was because of people like you all here who are encouraging, so I tell you this: You had an interview - that in itself speaks volumes. On top of that, you're still waiting on schools. It's not over yet. I do not care what others on SDN are saying. Yes, for some schools they do have their last interviews in February. Great. But for others, they go on till April. My friend, 33 on his MCAT, 3.6 science GPA interviewed at Downstate, Hofstra, and NYMC. Only got into Downstate. Want to know when. June 1st. Keep your hopes up. We can all do this. Do not worry.

It only has to work one time! There's so much randomness in this process that we all have to try not to take it personally and understand that the statistics dictate that for no good reason whatsoever, tons of well-qualified applicants will be turned away. For a school to accept every qualified person that applies, they would have to accept 5000+ people. It's a terrible, terrible process but I do believe that even if it isn't during this cycle, we will all be accepted to one school in 2016. As Winston Churchill said, "When you're going through hell, keep going."

Wayne State University

Sorry to hear that. I am expecting that rejection soon. Was this a pre-II rejection? If so, if you don't mind me asking, when were you complete?

I just received my first II from a DO school (only applied two DO so I am very grateful but also hoping for a MD II still.)

It was pre II. I was complete there early October. Received the rejection via snail mail.

SNAIL MAIL? Ugh, that makes it even worse. Thanks for letting me know. Good luck with the remainder of your cycle!

I think a ton of schools don't reject until the end of the cycle so that's probably why we're getting so much silence.
I checked and 12 of them have been rejecting. So that doesn't explain it either unfortunately (or is that fortunately?)

I would say fortunately!
I've got silence from 12, only 3 of which have rejected people. And only one of those three (GWU) has rejected a significant number of people. OSU and Colorado have rejected a few.

If I got an interview from GWU I would be over the moon. I didn't know they had been rejecting people!

Yeah they've actually had a ton of mass rejections! Although given the amount of apps they get that might be a small percentage of applicants who got rejected haha.

I still have to hear back from nine schools, seven of which have rejected people. So I suppose that's not the worst possible situation. It seems that one of my biggest mistakes this cycle was applying to schools that get an obscene amount of applications, because I was distracted by their relatively reasonable GPA/MCAT averages.

I started checking my portals and one school that I thought "oh yay I'm still in the running if they haven't rejected me yet!" updated my portal from "secondary submitted" to "reviewed for completion" as of this week...😕

Did you go an II from Ohio state yet?

I was just thinking the other day that if I had to reapply and re-do my school list, I would still have no idea which schools to apply to. My MCAT and ECs aren't good enough for top schools, and schools with lower MCAT averages get a **** ton of applications and nothing would make me stand out at those schools.
So basically, if you're a mediocre applicant and not from a lucky state with lots of public schools that favor IS students, you're kinda sore outta luck.

Meanwhile, we have a ridiculous poster suggesting getting into med school isn't difficult.

There is some flaw(s) in the system if someone like you with a 3.9/33 with good ECs and a good person with no personality disorder potentially would have to worry. We have a 4.0/30+ candidate on the site who is a college valedictorian with outstanding ECs still struggling to get a single acceptance.

I'm lucky to have one acceptance, but to be quite honest (and I don't mean to sound complain-y here, I'm really happy and very grateful for that acceptance), I expected this cycle to go a bit better in terms of # of interviews (4 total, and I'm pretty sure that's gonna be it for me).

Edit: does the person you're referring to have an MDapps? I'm curious.

catie-jane......yes

This process makes no sense.

Agreed.

I suppose there is more logic from the adcom perspective (I hope!), but I'm silent at 16 places going as long as 6 months. I dont know if they've done one pass and I've been sitting in the "eh" pile since, or am I continually being set aside? Or did they lose my app altogether?

If on the high side they have 10k applicants and start accepting them July (?), then they need to process over 1500/month to finish by now. That sounds awful. Even for schools with 6k applicants it seems quite rough. But how many must be kept in the "eh" pile?

Depressing. Oh well...

I think four interviews is an awful lot better than a huge amount of people. Personally, I don't know anybody with more than five interviews. I can tell you this much right now...if I'm accepted in a week I'm immediately withdrawing my application from the other schools where I have interviews. Anything I can do to even slightly increase the chances of somebody equally deserving to get an interview is worthwhile.

Yeah definitely not complaining about having four interviews! I think my expectations were just too high, given my extremely unbalanced MCAT and limited research experience. The only interview I have left is my state school which I don't want to give up for obvious reasons 😛

I think I actually wrote that in my withdrawal email to schools that had given me an II but I chose not to go to. I think I said "I really hope this interview will go to another applicant who may need and desire it much more than I do"

I agree that schools like GW, Drexel, etc are a giant crapshoot as far as admissions are concerned and are low yield for most people.

Ohhh yeah I've seen her posts on here and looked at her MDapps, totally insane that she doesn't have an acceptance by now!

You and @Nietzschelover are both very kind!

I had another interview yesterday and had an amazing time! Hopefully I will have some good news by the end of February 🙂

Edit: As I was reading those posts I was thinking man I need to meet that person since they are my stat twin haha

Congrats on the interview! I feel like I know a lot of you guys because we've all been on this thread so long.

I am so so surprised you don't have a line of interviews lined up! What the heck is going on with this whole process but I am glad you at least had ONE and I hope THAT one becomes your acceptance! One is all it takes!

Yes only 2 so far this cycle so I'm excited to see how the rest of it plays out. Thank you for the kind words!

I looked up previous years' threads and I see that only 4 out of my remaining 11 silent schools still give out IIs after February 1st. . Those schools are:
Albany
CMU
Ohio state
Buffalo

It's ok because now I can be at peace. I can stop obsessively checking 11 schools ( and cut it down to obsessively checking only 4 schools. Lol)
