Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, it's hard to tell with this process. I'm trying to prepare an update myself, but waiting to hear if my abstract got accepted to present at this conference. Although my update is mostly for schools that I've already interviewed at, I'm still going to send it to those I haven't heard from if they're receptive. It's difficult to know what's "too little, too late."

Exactly, I just emailed her again saying that this would really carry weight with my application so hopefully she responds quickly!

So it looks like a lot of folks who were complete in August/September are still in limbo and haven't heard much -- neither IIs nor rejections. I'm going to assume this means most schools just haven't gotten to our apps yet. This would explain the lack of rejections as well as the lack of invites. So the IIs should be coming soon!

(At least, that's what I'm going to tell myself.)

Yeah that's what I was hoping to do, but seeing as how she was supposed to give feedback in July so I could submit then, I have a feeling she is going to keep pushing it off. I figured for most schools I haven't been reviewed or am currently being reviewed so now would be a good time to send an update

Well, I don't know what other people have been doing but I submitted an update saying I submitted a 1st author publication and a 5th author publication. I simply but the journal that we submitted to, they haven't been accepted yet. Yes, ideally it would be better to send them an accepted paper but in my opinion this process is a race for spots. Showing continued progress in scientific/professional life is what I think is what really matters and I'm going to throw every publication that will have my name on it at them. It's a long road to even get a publication ready (years), I don't think we should be held back from medical school because publication lists weren't officially long enough in July vs. December. Just my two cents.

If I already sent an e-mail in early september showing an email from the publisher saying my paper is accepted, should I also send them the electronic copy of my paper that has come out? Unsure if this is too much.

I'd call a couple of schools to get their input

Pretty sure they won't need it however

Really wishing this whole process was just a little more transparent. I've been doing pretty well the past two months with no news, but I'm getting kind of anxious as the holidays near. Like most, I just want to know where I stand. Here's to hoping the next few weeks bring us some peace!

**** this ****. I'm done.

I know I don't belong on this thread...but I would just like to comment that this process makes me irrationally angry, but not at anything specific. Just generalized..anger...and I'm trying to find something to pin it on but I can't. Which makes it go in this anger intensifier chamber HAHA and multiplies with itself.

I'm hoping to hear other news by the time thanksgiving comes around since I'm going to be seeing my entire extended family. They all know about my first interview but that was an outlier (didn't need LOR before invite) and feels like forever ago

Maybe its because we spend three **** years working our butts of for this moment and got nothing???

I'm intentionally trading my shift so I work on Thanksgiving. I don't want to see my family until I get accepted somewhere. They are all of the opinion that you have to be ethnic or a genius to become a doctor. I think that is both mildly racist and untrue. And I'm not going through their veiled , "I told you so's . . ." for a bit of dry turkey and boxed wine. Not worth it when I could be making double my salary for a day.

But hopefully I'm in somewhere by Christmas so I can say, "I told you so," in a veiled manner myself.

I just think its pretty absurd that I have numerous apps completed in mid to late July/early August that still haven't even been reviewed.

Is it just me or is it getting kinda depressing to see an alert on the thread of the schools you follow only to see its someone waiting to hear back after an interview. I have nothing to hear back from 🙁.

I'm less than thrilled as well. Halfway though the week. Pleassssseeee something!!!

Complete Jul/Aug, total silence since then. I get so excited to read my emails every morning...only to be sunk with sadness. I feel like I'm not even getting Spam anymore!
Thanksgiving will be hard to tell the family, "Nope. Nada. Still waitin..." but, thankfully, everyone will probably still be so supportive.

There's still three weeks until Thanksgiving, so you never know! I'm hopeful that things will really pick up this month after the stellar applicants start turning down interviews. I've been complete most places July/August and still waiting too on many too.

I've seen more "withdrawing from my II, good luck everyone else!" in threads recently. I hope there's a trickle down to me/us! Been complete since August (just under 3 months now) and total silence has been disheartening... I understand I'm not a "wowza!" applicant, but seriously think I have good stuff to offer. Ah well...

If I was recently complete at end of October/first couple days of November is there any idea on how long I should wait before expecting to hear about IIs?

Probably a few months and more, you're behind pretty much every applicant unfortunately

You probably wont hear back until next year, unless you have something the school is looking for (URM, veteran, etc).

Unfortunately there was a delay with the committee letter for my application so that is what caused the delay. There is not much I can do about it now. Do you think this will be a huge barrier to me getting an II or will some still be available?

That stinks man I'm sorry :/ no one can really say but hope for the best prepare for the worst. From your post history your MCAT is fantastic but GPA is meh, with a little luck you may have some good fortune. Not complaining but to give you perspective, I haven't heard from 24 schools since completing late July..

Thanks for your help. I am obviously hoping for the best with this but it would be real disappointing if the timeline is what hurt me the most. Wow since July that is rough but good luck to you on the cycle hope you hear good news soon.

It's an unfortunate reality of this process but timeline matters very much! Best of luck to you too!

Still waiting... Still going crazy...

Been complete at my state school for almost 3 months with complete silence. Nice.
A lot of my schools are 3 months silence but no rejection.... I wonder why.

We are all in the same boat...Am beginning to wonder whether or not I have just been completely passed over/silent rejection, or deemed I am a semi-competitive applicant that will be given a shot once the dust settles from all the initial acceptances of top tier candidates. Either way...would love to see something...soon!

I've been following this thread since the beginning and I just have to say, I really genuinely hope that all of you posting here get interviews and an eventual acceptance. You all seem like such nice people who really deserve a shot at medical school!

Hi guys,
I have a dumb question. Do all schools send out rejection emails if they decide not to give interviews or do they just ignore you? I have sent out 13 secondaries in the past 2 weeks and have not heard back from any schools. Any input would be nice. Thanks!!

Some schools send out rejections, some wait until the very end of the cycle to reject you.
But you should just be aware that you are sending in your applications very late, and that will probably have a negative impact on your chances. Also, 2 weeks is hardly any time, many here have been waiting for 3-4 months to hear back from schools.

thanks!! I'll just keep waiting....

Im wondering if I should have applied DO this cycle...4.0 and 31 hopefully would have balanced my moderate ECs but I guess I was wrong...is it necessary to shadow a DO doctor to apply DO?? What are the disadvantages of DO?

I think it's ridiculous that admissions for MD have become so competitive that an applicant with great stats like you has to consider DO.

I have a higher LizzyM and might end up going DO as well due to how competitive MD is.

Yeah, same here... just very frustrating. It's still early according to some people, but it's rough seeing zero emails at all times.

From the 2014-2015 late applicant thread, two users posted how their cycles went:

Agobio, Verified 8/26, Complete: most around 10/15 - 11/25, II: 5/12, Acceptance: 1/12, # of Schools Applied: 12, 1st MCAT: 31 (8/9/14); 2nd MCAT 10/11/13, cGPA: 3.72, sGPA: 3.76

Agilevin, Verified 8/26, Complete: between 9/15 - 11/28, II: 10 (first offered on 10/21, latest 2/18), Acceptance: 1 (2/10), # of Schools Applied: 28, MCAT: 38 (13/10/15); cGPA: 3.74, sGPA: 3.72. Non-trad.

Neither of them have been seen since August. I have no idea how 1 acceptance is equivalent to 2/10 but it sounds like they're going to be a doctor.

Sample size too small 🙁 Maybe they just got lucky.

Also, we don't know when they got their first interviews. 🙁
