Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
still 0 interview invite..... 4 rejections, 2 holds... are schools almost done giving out interviews now? If I'm not hearing back right now, is it most likely a silent reject? 🙁 I'm getting really worried...... is anyone preparing to reapply next year?

wow man, that's tough. Wish you luck, hopefully we'll get some invites next week or so... I'm not sure when to start thinking about plan B because I was complete late August/early September, my committee letter was sent too late from my UG...

Quick question for anyone that has already done the research. Are there any schools that are still "giving out plenty of invites" this late in the process (Based on previous years threads).I know that some schools may still have a few more to give out but are there any schools that may be only halfway finished with invites. I know that no one knows for sure, but just wondering. Wishful thinking.

Almost all schools I have applied to are still handing out interviews.

Hofstra is the only school I worry about, but apparently in previous years they have "interview waitlists" starting early in the cycle so I guess it all works out

Yeah last year Hofstra's last II on SDN was dated in January. Some other schools went through March.

For anyone waiting for their first II. I was complete last year for most of my schools around mid-Sept. My LizzyM was ~70. I received my first II from Einstein early December so I waited 3 months. I was actually complete at Einstein late august and they took 2 months to mark my app as "complete" which I was notified in October. I received my second II in mid-Dec and I'm currently attending at that school. Don't give up hope but I recommend being productive as if you are planning to re-apply. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!

I have been complete since early early August...and I have yet to hear back...does that mean my application has been passed over? Sorry to be such a downer..

What schools did you apply to? That may be a factor.

I have already been held by two of those schools and rejected by one...31 and 4.0 with 400 shadowing/volunteering, minimal research, working in labs and other jobs

I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything since this is my first time applying too. I think your stats are pretty good but maybe you need more safety schools? I applied to some of the school you applied to too but haven't heard back either. I read that Jeff and temple are low yield for sure. But don't worry your stats are pretty good and it shows you are definitely capable of handling med school!

What other safety schools are there? I thought these were all the low stat schools..

I think your school list is reasonable, but obviously there's a ton of people applying to a lot of those schools.

Are there any red flags on your app? Like an IA or something?

Feel free to look at my MDapps. Looks like we applied to similar schools with similar stats. Not sure what your ECS look like, but I'm sure you are a well-rounded applicant

Edit: we were complete about a month apart but that shouldn't make a huge difference

Not that I know of...

I actually think that may be a problem. My extracurricular are pretty average. No clubs, leadership positions or significant research. Just lots of volunteering, shadowing, and work. Only two semesters of research.

Also, now that I think about it. One of my professors did seem irritated about writing me a LOR bc I reminded him about it like once a week. Could that be an issue? I hope one bad LOR doesn't kill my cycle...

Well as long as you were able to talk about your ECs and how they were significant to you it should be fine. You have the clinical experience, volunteering, and research (even if there were no publications).

Someone else might be able to give you better insight however!

try schools that have avg MCAT as 29 or 30. If it's not too late, apply to wvu. They interview a lot oos and I feel like you would def get an II if it's not too late to apply there yet.

Looking at interview broker it only seems like they have 5 interview dates available in late January - early March. But who knows, might be worth it!

Yeah it's too late for me to apply to other schools. But I will do a better job of applying to more next time around and applying DO as well.

Don't start talking about next cycle just yet! There is still plenty of time to hear good news 🙂

I disagree - it's important to stay hopeful but it's also important to acknowledge the possibility of applying again next cycle and discussing how to best address that.

To each their own, but I personally believe it is too early (at least for myself) to be considering a plan B.

But then again, I am currently scribing full-time, volunteering, and trying to finish a paper from undergrad so I guess I am already "preparing" for next cycle by continuing these activies if it ends up that way.

This is probably the last week where the chance of getting an interview is high. Past Thanksgiving, I heard schools don't give out many interviews 🙁

I don't think you can generalize that for all schools. Many schools have different interview processes. Hopefully we'll all hear back from somewhere this week though 🙁 I'm on hold at a couple places, rejected at a couple more... Still holding out hope that I'll hear from one of the 13-15 schools that I'm still in limbo at during November or December.

I rather they just reject me now instead of making me agonize over the glimmer of hope...

Yeah, the silent rejections that may or may not exist are really what's killing me. I'd rather just know if I'm already on a reject pile somewhere 🙁

Yea, what's worst is when you have people that were complete after you already rejected or accepted....Like what's that mean?! Is that good or bad? Just give me a bone.

I'm telling myself and everyone hounding me that it's a good sign. Not sure what I believe though....

Same here, I keep on thinking...well they haven't rejected me yet, maybe they're interested but want to gives interviews to better candidates first? Or perhaps they already silent-rejected me. OR maybe they've sent it by snail-mail and I just haven't received it.

I keep telling myself "no news is good news," but I know I'm not the most competitive applicant out there so it's getting pretty hard to keep my spirits up as the days keep passing with no news. 🙁

I know how it feels. But I wouldn't give up yet! My friend just got an interview last night to a school scheduled for 12/15. And there were 5 other dates up until March.

Edit: And this is 5 out of the 14 total

I hope so.... I've been praying every night this past month that I'll get an invite some time before Thanksgiving.... and it's nerve racking to see empty inbox at the end of the day 🙁

Do a quick search on your own, but most SDN and adcoms say to wait until the new year (January/February) for II.

School deadlines are mostly all in January so it would be absurd if they stopped giving out II 2 months before that deadline

lol, you're making me hope that come the new year, I'll suddenly get a full inbox of IIs. Ahh I wish.

That is a really good point!

Well time will tell, we'll all probably know by Summer where we'll be going.

I know someone who applied a few years ago who got a total of 3 IIs, all between january-march, with one acceptance
But did they submit in August? That's the problem most of us in the thread have I believe
