Official 2016-2017: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

I would recommend applying D.O., I am also in the midst of D.O. applications, apply broadly and submit them before late November!

Also, unrelated to applying for D.O., I remember someone posting a few weeks ago about getting interview invites when you least expect them. I was at a friend's wedding earlier today, awesome time of celebration and gathering with close friends from college. I checked my phone and was blown away that I got my first II. Being my third time applying and submitting applications somewhat late, I didn't have high expectations at all, especially after having gone the past two cycles with 0 II's. Just wanted to say that the outpouring of support from SDN has been incredibly uplifting and for everyone to hold onto their dream of becoming a physician; persistence, determination, and patience are key!!

Thoughts on applying DO:

First of all, recognize that getting into a DO school isn't some consolation prize. It's rather difficult as well. I wrestled with the idea of applying DO for awhile, but I ultimately decided against it because I felt that I would be better suited to improving my application and applying to both MD and DO schools in the next year, so that I could really put my best foot forward with the DO schools and apply without the alleged stigma of being a "reapplicant." That being said, a friend of mine sent in a few DO applications super late after not receiving any interviews elsewhere, and one of those schools is where she now attends. The DO process runs a lot longer than the MD process, so if you have decent stats for MD schools you can likely get away with submitting in 2017 after feeling out the rest of this year. Just always think strategically about these things!

Also, go celebrate Halloween with your friends and forget about medical school applications for a day or two.

You have a lot of reaches and low yield schools. Especially for only applying to 11 schools

I have a few reaches but am within range for most that I applied.
Most of the SDM community says 10-15 schools as the magic number.
I bought the MSAR, and from that data schools tend to have relatively similar low yield.

@ bananafish94, TY for the insight about DO. Was helpful.

If you want you can PM me your stats and I can generate a school list for you. I think you have a good shot of getting in this cycle provided you were complete early and have reasonable EC's. I do think 11 schools is a little light i personally would have applied to 20.

to the people with 0II and a couple of rejections.... I got NINE rejections and then got an II on Wednesday. There is hope people, hang in there!

Totally agree! There comes a point where distraction is literally your best strategy towards dealing with this process. My first II came as soon as I stopped obsessively reading SDN threads and actually got things done at work🤣

I have been Soo unproductive and inept at work it is no joke.

You got your II one day after joining this thread, hmmmm.....I declare myself officially joining this thread.
LOL guys it kind of worked...I got an interview the next business day (today). Not saying it had anything to do with it, but I mean, I got a penguin/banana/pokemon avatar going on, so.....

So does this mean we are allowed to rescind our membership in this group by deleting our previous posts, repost as a newly joining member, then automatically receive our first II tomorrow? If so, I'm totally doing that.

2 rejections and 2 holds later, and I still haven't heard anything from state schools welp joining the thread

Best of luck everyone. Wishing for some luck here too 😉

24 days left before we submit applications for DO schools, graduate schools, or special masters programs, and schedule appointments with highly trained therapists y'all. 24 days.
Get it trending.

In all honesty though, is there a thread or anything like that where people without II can seek advice for reapplying and prepping for potentially another cycle? I know, I know, it's not Black Friday yet, but I'm admittedly pretty surprised I haven't heard anything from schools yet.

Wouldn't it seem obvious to adcoms that you're applying to those programs as backup if you do it right on/after Thanksgiving?

We know it.

We don't take it personally.

When March rolls around, we see a sudden uptick in stats of interviewees. these are all the people who realized in November that they weren't getting into Harvard.

me neither 🙁
In all seriousness though, I applied to DO before I applied MD. Still got rejected a bunch. And I also applied to HMS, because YOLO.

You still have six months to go Bara. I believe you will get in somewhere even if it is last minute.

Has anyone else noticed a change in their mood and personality since submitting your IIs? Like, it's hard for me to stay focused. And some days I find it difficult to start my day because I have such low energy. I have like, no willpower, and eat more sugary junk food. I sleep like 9hrs, but I'm still tired when I wake up. A few people have asked me if I'm alright because I look upset! I didn't think that having no interview invites could affect me this much!

I'll be really happy for this stage to be over ... maybe that's why getting an acceptance is so elating. It's because your hopes and dreams sink so deep into the swampy bog of doom beforehand ... ugh!

What's the likelihood of someone getting only holds now getting interviews later on? I have 5 pre II holds rn. And one rejection from Irvine. But secondaries from UCLA, UCSF, Mayo so maybe there's something redeeming? I'm just worried about my GPA (3.46ish)

best case scenario some DO IIs are solid practice for an MD II, worst case I'm still a doctor
I thought you already did!
nah I was grappling with it until now, and I didn't find a DO to shadow until today

Oh okay lol....I lowkey follow your progress across the universe of SDN. I'm like a curious bystander, until now I guess since I @'ed you. I applied with just an MD letter. Obviously not to schools that required a DO. Maybe it's holding me back, maybe not. I have 3 DO II.

So I'm so demotivated to apply D.O but I think I should! I also have a few seconadaries for reach schools to do and I would like to do them.

Deep breaths...

Hi everyone! I've never posted on here but I've been following this thread a lot in the past month and feeling similarly hopeless about not having any interviews. Today I woke up and felt miserable about it, and even on the way to work I was thinking about millions of back-up plans because I thought I was essentially doomed. But then as I pulled into the parking lot at work I got my first II!!! Bottom line: do not give up hope or let your anxiety convince you that you are doomed, because you're not. You're awesome. Just be patient, soon you'll get that email and find yourself happy-crying and hyperventilating in a parking lot at 7:50 AM.

YOU GOT THIS!!
