Why is it any different from discussing a tradition of Carnatic music? I take pride in having learned the Vedas, and preserving the culture and language of my ancestors. I would probably not directly mention that I'm a Brahmin but discussing my customs would make it incredibly obvious.
If a Muslim said that practicing Islam was incredibly important to him, I don't think you would see anything wrong with that.

Dude, untouchability is not a thing anymore unless you live in some backwoods area. Some of the greatest leaders of India were Dalits

yea, I wanted to draw an analogy, but then I found myself holding back because I didn't want to invoke Godwin's law. But we all remember a time when a nation said the exact same thing.

Suppose a member of the Navajo nation discusses their passion for preserving their culture. What would you say then?
I doubt it would be the same response; probably you'd consider it admirable.

I'm with baratheon here. nothing wrong with taking pride in their culture. As long as someone doesn't think lesser of others, I see nothing wrong with it.

Good on you for increasing the diversity and preserving history.

The tone baratheon types can be hard to understand cause its text rather than convo. Lets not get so defensive and aggresive guys

I want to clarify that I don't think Baratheon is condescending or elitist.
Just based on his writing (since English is not his first language)
As evidenced by reading his posts on these forums, he comes off as standoffish.

Is he rude and standoffish in real life? Probably not.

But if his PS was written in the same style I can see that it may be taken the wrong way. Especially given the subject matter. (Upholding your culture a good thing! But pairing it with a condescending tone, intentional or otherwise, is a recipe for disaster)
 
Anybody who has little to no interviews: you may or may not be aware of this, but the end of this week is the the first date that schools are allowed to send admissions decisions post-interview to applicants. I have no data whatsoever to support this, but I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to propose that for the past couple weeks the schools have likely been more invested in this than extending interviews. I wouldn't be surprised if there is bit of a surge from the end of October to Thanksgiving.

Also, and this may be either horrifying or comforting depending on your situation, this is only the beginning of the waiting game. One school took an entire year to reject me pre-interview, and one school still hasn't rejected me post-interview. I think it's wrong and unprofessional that some schools elect to do it this way just because they can, but unfortunately that's the way it is. And if you are concerned about your primary or secondary essays, I've read a great deal of them since the summer and I feel pretty comfortable evaluating them if anybody wants to send me a PM.

It seems like 'keeping this thread alive' consists of everyone calling out the cringe-worthy things you say, so I'll add mine:

I've noticed that in many school threads you refer to everyone as "man"...as in, "congrats, man. What are your stats?" I know you're going to claim that it's just the way you speak, and that you call everyone 'man', but I'm just saying it bothers me. Whether you realize this or not, it looks like you are assuming that every person on here is a guy, which is a dangerous assumption given the profession's male-dominated history.

Maybe I'm being too PC, but it bothers me. Please don't call any female interviewers 'man'.... I promise they will not like it.

I'm not vegetarian but cook for those who are. There are GREAT things to make for thanksgiving that don't involve tofurkey (yuk!). For true vegans Squash stuffed with wild rice and craisins looks very pretty on the table. Vegetarian lasagna is great as is Eggplant Parmesan for those that eat eggs and cheese. Sweet potato and black bean enchiladas - yum. Rice with onions and golden raisins (Adas polo) is great. I even have a vegan pumpkin pie (crustless) recipe that is fab.
