Hi everyone!

According to some reports I read online, there is an increase in deferrals in 2020 because of the pandemic. Will that affect the number of available positions for 2021? Did anyone hear about it from program directors?

I would say yes in some programs. I had an interview with University of Maryland and the program director mentioned that the available seats will only be two spots, instead of the normal 3 spots, because someone from last year couldn’t join the program.

Hey y'all
Have any of you been asked to present something during your interviews? What were you asked? And if you had freedom of choice, what did you choose? (if you don't mind sharing). thank you!

Prior to the interview process, I put together a photo portfolio that displayed my skills and some of the cases I've tackled. I love to document and take high quality pictures of everything I do so I had a lot to work with. I also made sure that the cases I included were diverse. I included everything from wax ups and final impressions, to implant surgeries and GBR procedures.

Each time I've been asked to present for an interview, I've simply walked the faculty through my portfolio. The reception has been very positive so if you can put together something similar, I would recommend it.

Anyone had their interview with Rochester?
It would be amazing if you can share the experience!

Hey, I had mine this week. It was very nice and chill, and they were interested in getting to know me. I had 3 separate interviews where they asked me a couple of questions and gave me a chance to ask all my questions too. The program is pretty balanced and we got to sit in on a perio-prosth case planning seminar. Overall a pretty good interview.

Hi all ! Some as experienced when a program director tells you: "you will be highly ranked". That is a good thing or is something that they did with everyone?

I think it is a good thing. Just not a 100%.

It also can have more meaning if the director told you so him/her self without you talking or asking about it first. Remember, it is ok for candidates and programs to show interest, but both can't disclose the order of their ranking. So honestly, "highly ranked" could also mean "first" indirectly.

Match ranking submitted! Good luck everyone!!

Best of luck! Do you know if PDs can see that their program has been ranked by someone? Or how many applicants have ranked them so far before the deadline?

Wow goodluck! I still have some interviews to go so I won’t be doing it until the last minute. And I wonder if they can see how many people rank them

I did! It was short (only an hour) and straight forward. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. They only asked me why Prosth and why UAB and then allowed me to ask questions the rest of the time

Thank you for sharing this, and best of luck!! Did they ask you to present a 10-15 minute presentation of a topic of your choice?

Anyone interviewed at UAB (Alabama)?
How did that go!?

UAB Interview was 90 minutes total and most of it was just shooting the breeze, getting to know each other and sharing some laughs. I asked some questions about the program and then we talked about sports. Chill vibes. Good program.

Thank you!!! I hope it went great!

I dont think they can. I thinks thats the whole purpose of match

Quick question on Match rankings.
Do residency programs ask for applicant match codes?
As in how do they identify an applicant while making ranking lists? Is it usually by first and last name?
Your match code is supposed to be in your application on pass

Hi,
Did anyone interview at Nova?
How did that go!?

Hello All, are there any hopes in getting interview calls from Non-Match programs like USC? I applied pretty late after checking with the Mr.Corey that they are still accepting applications.

They have already sent out acceptances. I don't know if they filled their class though.

If I match a program but in the last minute decide not to attend to any program (match and no match), will I be punished by match?

"If you are matched with a program, you must accept the position with which you are matched as described in the Applicant Agreement. If you do not accept your Match result, the sponsoring organizations of the Match will review your situation and may impose penalties on you, which may include sanctions, letters of admonishment, reporting your actions to your dental school, and/or other penalties as appropriate."

Ranking programs is a commitment to attend any of those programs. Be sure you have read and understand the rule and regulations of the match that you agreed to by participating in the match.

I was placed on the alternative list at USC. Im assuming that they filled all their spots since I have not heard anything back from them. Best of Luck!

Thanks so much for your reply. When did you receive that email.

Did anyone receive a rejection letter from BU? do you know if all the spots are filled since match is in 2 days and haven't heard back.

Good luck everyone! How did everyone find the interview process?

I guess having interviews online did not provide me with a clearer picture of some programs. I think the only upside of being virtual is that I did not have to travel lol.

Wishing everybody gets matched. Good luck everyone!

Edit: I think this thread is one of the few ways we can make time pass faster. Would appreciate it if everyone started commenting on anything haha.

Congratulations to all those who matched.

Is it really necessary to send out confirmation emails to the programs? I know it is mentioned in the Match website but I feel like it is kinda awkward.

Congratulations to everyone who matched 🙂

Unfortunately I didn’t match. One of the programs that I ranked is available post-match. Obviously this program didn’t rank me at all. Is there any point in me approaching them for a position?

congrats to all.
could someone tell me please how this post-match works? do I need to apply through pass again?

Can someone please tell us what are the available post-match programs ?
It would be very helpful
