I applied to NYU, Rutgers, Columbia, and Boston.
yet to hear from any of them. Boston’s Periodontics sent their invites but Idk about Pros.. sigh.

I had interview with Boston University on August 27 and 28. I think I was in the first batch for interviews. They mentioned that they still have lots of people to interview.

Sure! I had interview with four people: a faculty, a senior resident, the director of the program and the chair of department. It was all about myself and just a few questions about why BU? Why Prosthodontics? And Why they should choose me?. Overall I felt good, nothing crazy or intimidating at all, they were all very friendly.

Interview was a good experience for me overall. Questions were just getting to know me. No "quizzing" on how much you know about prosth, at least for me 🙂 Sorry it took long for me to reply to this. I don't really check SDN too often

I am wondering about how much do interviews actually weigh in the decision making process. Because, I have done some interviews already and they all seem to assess your interactive skills, attidude and behaviour more than they do assessing your qualifications.

I am getting to a point where I dont actually know if I have done well in an interview, they all seem like freindly conversations to get to know you more sort of interviews.

Would be nice if you could share your thoughts, especially those who have applied to previous cycles.

They already know your qualifications, and because of that, they interviewed you. This is my first time applying to prostho. But, what I learned from my GPR interviews last year is that they want to know about your interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. You can have a 4.00 GPA but is you failed on that; you easily can be out.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I totally agree with you and this is what I think too. But I would expect most applicants to have similar interpersonal skills. So if a program accepts 2-4 applicants, and all interviewees have good personalities, will it all come down to the qualifications at the end?

Everyone applying usually has the same stats, extracurriculars, and the one or two things that makes them unique/special. If a program director and residents are going to be with you for next 3 years 12-16hrs/day, they must feel like they can mold you into who they want you to be or at least be able to get a long with you. This is why most of these interviews are not like dental school. They know you are a doctor or going to be one, but are you the doctor that is teachable, moldable and most important has a personality that will thrive in their program.

I don’t think my application has even been looked at tbh by some schools. Because I would expect I am at least worthy of an interview invite based on my stats. I’m a bit disappointed

NO! For example, UIC sent me a rejection email in August. But, suddenly they sent me another email in September inviting me to interview because they get an open spot for one of their interview dates. They explain to me that I was at the top of the list of alternatives. I am pretty sure that the same happens with Texas A&M because they invited me super late to interview. So don't give up!! I strongly recommend you to write follow up emails to the program directors. That shows interest and they may keep you in mind if a spot gets open.

Post Match is a real option, even to all that gets invitations. As you said, everything happens for a reason.
