I know VCU is out. I don't know anyone who got Jackson memorial.
I know one person who got a Miami/Jackson memorial interview invite- will be virtually on 10/30Heard a rumor Miami/Jackson memorial was released. Anyone able to confirm or deny that?
Jackson Memorial (Miami) has been sending invites out intermittently. As of now, both 10/30 and 11/6 are their virtual interview dates.Jackson or Jacksonville? Jacksonville sent more invites today.
I think SDN would give you a skewed representation of an applicant because a lot these posts are coming from a really, really strong applicant. Nonetheless, I feel like we all believe the applicant pool is growing each year (largest ever), and the CBSE scores are going up every time. That makes for stronger competition. Not sure a 70 has the same value it did pre-Covid, but that’s a personal opinion. What is everyone's stats (e.g. school, GPA, CBSE, demographics)? Currently applying next cycle and wanna see where I would stand.

Could be a virtual/in-person discrepancy we're dealing with? But I agree, you do see a lot of the same faces. It does feel like you see a lot of the same faces at every interview.
People will usually post that stuff after match day. But from what I’ve heard, 70-75 CBSE is far from safe. What is everyone's stats (e.g. school, GPA, CBSE, demographics)? Currently applying next cycle and wanna see where I would stand.
What would you say is a safe score from what you have heard?People will usually post that stuff after match day. But from what I’ve heard, 70-75 CBSE is far from safe.
Obviously anecdotal, but I only applied 6s and chatting with some fellow applicants we thought 80+ was the threshold to be competitive (>50% invites) this cycle for 6s. Maybe some leeway if you're #1 or from an Ivy but idk. What would you say is a safe score from what you have heard?
What about someone with a high 70 from a "good reputation" unranked program? 😂Obviously anecdotal, but I only applied 6s and chatting with some fellow applicants we thought 80+ was the threshold to be competitive (>50% invites) this cycle for 6s. Maybe some leeway if you're #1 or from an Ivy but idk.
I wouldn't worry too much about the details. At the end of the day it's all a spectrum. If I have a 75 and you have an 80, all that means is I might have to apply to 35 instead of 25 programs to get enough interviews (arbitrary numbers). And if you're interviewable you can get in somewhere. What about someone with a high 70 from a "good reputation" unranked program? 😂
I think it also depends on the scores of people in your class that are applying as well. Programs aren't going to interview 10 people from one school. At least, not from what I've seen so far. It’s all about the package. The CBSE is only part of the equation. Some programs read every single application. Some have a cutoff of 65 or 67. Some 70 or 75. No program has a cutoff of an 85.
Who are you is what they want to know.
Are you a URM female with an otherwise amazing application, top of her class, very involved, charismatic and likable. Done 5 externships with 5 letters from OMFS faculty? CBSE will matter a lot less, you’ll get plenty of interviews at both 4 and 6 year programs even with a 65.
Is your only involvement with the Oral Surgery Club, a couple of externships and not much else that makes someone want to get to know you? You’ll find that with a 75 or even an 80, programs won’t be as keen on interviewing you and matching becomes more difficult.
Score isn’t everything, but rather a part of an equation.
Answering what score is competitive depends on if the candidate is otherwise competitive. It can range from 65-80 depending on what else that individual brings to the table.
Word. My cbse isn’t great, below 70, but I have awesome letters , top of my class, a masters in biology, and have a super unique military involvement for the past couple years. Have 12 interviews.
