**Official 2026 Ortho Pass/Interviews/Match/Non- match**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know the type of questions they normally ask in interviews?
-Why do you want to pursue orthodontics?
-What are your long-term goals post residency?
-What do you like to do for fun?
-Where do you want to practice after residency?
-Can you tell me about your research experience and interests?
-Why should we select you? Your strength? Your weakness?
-Can you tell us about a challenging time for you? How did you handle it?
-How do you handle conflict? What about criticism?
-Challenges to the specialty?
-Questions off your resume and/or personal statement

I applied to 15 schools, I was a little more selective as I took the ADAT not GRE. Also, current military dentist/non-traditional applicant 4 years out of school. So I tried to apply to schools that were more open to non-traditional applicants.

Are people following up with schools that did not get a “application complete” email? I feel like several schools don’t send out confirmation of applications being completed.
Which ones did you apply to if you don’t mind me asking?

Do schools typically send interview invites out in the AM, PM or throughout the day? Just curious!

I would like to ask if UCLA, San Antonio, Kentucky, Boston, Case Western, Ohio State, and Indiana sent a complete application for orthodontic residency. I know that Indiana sent invites, but I didn't receive a complete application. Can anyone tell me, please, and thanks so much.

Only Indiana sent complete emails I believe

It varies from program to program! I have gotten some mid-morning, some afternoon, and some in the evenings. Comes at the most random time when you're not refreshing your email all the time haha.

CTRO Academy's application deadline is Sept 15th. Does anyone know why they sent out interview invites so early this year? Is there going to be another round of invites?

Very common for programs to do that. Seton was the same way.

Also no, it will typically only be 1 round of invites

how many schools already send their invites and interviews dates ? I need to start crossing my list of school

Only a few so far. If you look back on a previous page there is a list of schools that have sent invites out. I would imagine several more will be sent out over the next two or three weeks.

These are the ones we are aware of so far.

I think Seton Hill is also doing rolling interviews or they sent out another round. I received one this morning for 9/12 interview and 9/11 social.

To those who have gotten an interview so far - Does the ADEA PASS status on that program change for you? Or does it show up on Dental Match website right away?

I think they are doing rolling interview invites. I received one from OU (interview dates either on Sep 26 or Oct 3 with social the night before) but I know they are still sending them out
Hi! Quick question... When did you receive your interview invite and how do you know they're still doing rolling invites? Just wondering if I should cross them off my list.

I received it on 08/05! But I know a week ago they reached out to someone to send in the OU supplemental bc they were still giving interviews.

I feel like this thread is oddly quiet or schools are just taking longer to send out interview invites this year? Just casually checking my email one million times a day ugh
based on the '25 list, a lot of interviews came in mid september. still early. i also asked a resident at my school today (NYU) and he said he personally got a lot of interviews at the end of september

All the schools I applied to that sent confirmation emails said to expect an email by the end of September/early October. It means it is still early to hear back from some of them. But that still doesn't help our anxiety. :dead:

For those who got on to residency, any tips for actually preparing for the interview? I am aware of the typical questions, but what did you do to handle stress on the day, etc.? Any curveball questions? How were the socials? Any specific expectations other than to just be yourself?

Be able to answer questions about yourself and cv. Every interview I went to they asked me about my research so know every specific detail about it. Often a resident will reach out to you before the interview so ask them questions about the faculty. Be able to answer really well why you want to go to the program. I found that the socials were a good time to find an answer to that question.
Socials are seriously just meant to be relaxing so just be yourself. Be sure to eat because it’s easy to get lost in talking to people and don’t be afraid to go back to your hotel early if your social battery is drained because you’ll need it on interview day. The residents will be able to tell if you’re trying too hard or being disingenuous. We’re looking for people who we can see as our future littles so talk to everyone!

I heard last year they sent more than once, not sure though

Did UIC send a complete application confirmation email ? & Do they normally send out multiple invite rounds ?
